Community Insight:
We love this game. It's fun, the mechanics are cool, the design is simplistic but good-looking, ive had fun playing this. But we really want to play it on our school assigned macbook and would love it if you could make a macbook port. <| : D.
You were our biggest hero growing up & fez is still in our mind the greatest game every made. Secretly hoping you been working on fez 2 for 10 years.
FEZ is one of the greatest indie games Ive played, along with Creaks by Amanita Design (The creators of Machinarium) because it is so much more than it appears to be. And you might be thinking thats because of the 2D perspective in a 3D world, but no. We found this game when we were eight years ild and our dad had bought it for us, and we had never heard of it. So we got around what we thought was halfway through the game and FEZ seemed like a really good platformer with a unique combination of 8-bit pixel art, but not in a retro way + an amazing soundtrack. Warning: Very minor spoilers ahead Then we picked up this game again a few months ago and we got the bad ending. Thats when we started realizing that there was a lot more about the world of FEZ than we anticipated Warning: Minor spoilers When we thought we had beaten the game, Id realized we were only halfway done. And then we realized the amount if secrets we missed. And Id also realized we never found out how to read or translate the strange symbols Id seen throughout the game. So many unanswered questions. Now that we have the answers to these questions, we just wanna say this game just got 100x cooler than it already was. We hope more people get to solve these mysteries on their own. This game is worth way more than $5.
Would be cool reimagined in your 4d format. Just a thought.
Some puzzles very hard but still amazing game.
This game is awesome, the idea of changing perspective is something Ive never seen before, we originally left a 3 star review complaining about crashes but we found out the game only crashes if you listen to music so thats why Im leaving another review, anyway, BUY THIS GAME.
We love this game. We wish it were even longer, with more areas and more puzzles. Maybe double the length? Triple? We dunno. Its a great game, with a great concept. But we do have one complaint: the controls are a little off. The up and down arrows for some reason always make us drift left in addition to what other direction Im trying to go. This makes it difficult for jumping straight upwards. Jumping down is a pain too. We have to tap the down arrow multiple times just so it registers that we want to go down. The jump button is a little glitchy too. Its responsiveness varies. 21 Feb 2021 Edit: Keeps crashing. IPhone XR. Crashes when listening to audible or apple music.
However, regardless of our misfortune, our rating is about the game. Also, to be fair, we may have closed the game while it was saving. That is only speculative as we personally have no way of telling why that occurred. Im starting the game over, which is a bit frustrating. On the flip side, we already know how to play the game and am completely and totally adjusted to its controls. This is a really great game. Ive played games that are a little bit similar in terms of adjusting the perspective, but none have made any type of good impression on us. We were nervous to get it for that reason. We were very wrong in thinking that. Immediately we realized that this is definitely its own game, and a rad one at that. Thanks for everyones hard work. You have brought so much joy(and a bit of frustration, jk)to many people. No complaints except for losing our our progress, but like we said, it couldve been operator error so zero hard feelings.
How on Earth is there SO MUCH in this game?! We keep thinking we've found every major section of the world and we KEEP FINDING NEW ONES.
Really is a stellar game and pat on the back to the devs. Thanks.
Ok, ngl, the first time we opened this game we got a little motion sick but this game is absolutely AMAZING. Its not just a typical platformer… Its got MANY tricks up its sleeve and every time we thought we understood what was going on, our mind got blown. We think someone wrote its like monument valley on steroids, and that sounds about right. We are having a slight glitch in controls tho often if Im running to the right to jump, the jump button doesnt react and we just run off the platform. A fix would be greatly appreciated.
A really fun game until some difficulties we think can wait until we finish the first version of the game. Ive already played this on our switch where we can complete everything except the clock Puzzle which is glitched out there. On the switch, there are some places where you need to be able to feel the vibration on your controller. Those are the tuning fork puzzles, but supposedly you can solve it by listening, but not on an iPad so probably not on an iPhone either; maybe if you have a headset which we do not. However, the game shuts down every time we try to solve the puzzle where you have to get the cubes sideways when you spell out Metatrons name we dont know if its only with one cube or if its the location, but we cant get it to not shut down and we cant get to Support. We dont play platformer games. We didnt even think of this as one. Its a great puzzle game and its also mind blowing. We think thats healthy for the mind and Im a psychiatrist so maybe our opinion should count. We first played this game on iOS. And then we change to the switch and we were able to do the entire game except for the puzzle. We have painful arthritis in the base of our right thumb and yet we could still do it without aggravating that its much harder for the iOS compared to the switch. We would give this game five stars if the glitches were surmountable. Just making an app Support button with no support behind it is almost worth minus 2 stars. Without the glitches, this game would be worth 5 stars. Dont forget multiple solutions to puzzles online.
If you have text size reading problems, you cant beat the game without a guide. It was engaging to play but there get to be puzzles we just couldnt do because the in game language is so small that we cant read to figure out the puzzles. So. Yeah.
We like the concept, the 2D game getting more perspectives as the protag goes 3rd dimensional. Its a really great game and we'd love to progress through it, if we could actually play it at all. See everytime we put in just a few too many inputs it crashes, over and over. Though if this game has a PC version and has better playability we are totally going to download it asap.
Great game. But keeps crashing on phone Ans iPad Pro. Not sure why.
The puzzles are fun but a little confusing but 8/10.
We want to like this game but if we play for more than 5 minutes the game crashes and kicks us out of the app. Anyone else having the same issue. Playing on a 14 pro max software wise.
While the game is effectively the same as the desktop and console counterparts, the touch controls leave a lot to be desired. About half the time you try to jump while moving, you just dont. The controls even give visual feedback like they got the click, but jumps dont happen. Needs work. Would like a refund. Ill just play it on steam instead.
We absolutely love this game on PC. Im not sure why the camera is pulled so far back on iOS. If we had an iPad this might not be a problem, but even on our iPhone X we can barely appreciate the beautiful artwork and animations in this game. Gameplay wise Im not sure why the camera needs to be pulled back so far. Most interactions happen pretty near to the main character. Writing the review because Ive gone back in and tried to play multiple times but we just cant get over how dang small everything is, but we keep it downloaded because its one of our favorite games and soundtracks.
Just played the first lvl to get the spinning world not sure what to call it and it shuts down and or just restarts.
This is a good game but the touch controls are just not up to some places that require precision and speed.
Disappointing. We were falsely lead to believe that this game was about solving clever spacial puzzles. However, significant sections of the game rely heavily on jumping or climbing from one stupid platform to another with very little to logically puzzle through. For a game that incorporates so much platforming, its controls are frustratingly imprecise. We spent significantly more time than we wanted just jumping around from one stupid platform to another, and very little time was spent solving puzzles. We only finished about 30% of the game before finally accepting that its just not what we want. We caution you against playing this if youre looking for a fun and clever puzzle game.
Update: Found a workaround for exiting the game. Pull down notification center and click a notification. Once in the new app you have regained control of the phone. But again please, tell us that we are an idiot, that there is a button or something for easily exiting this game. There must be since none of the other reviewers mentioned this. Or maybe its just a problem with the iPhone 13 Pro Max series. Upping our rating to two stars. And now that we feel comfortable that we can exit the game without restarting our phone, we will play it. Hopefully we will enjoy it as much as the other reviewers. We previously wrote: we had to do a hard Restart of our iPhone to exit this game. Please tell us Im missing something, that there is an easy way to exit the game.
The controls on mobile are awful. Why bother having a 4 direction DPAD when its actually a 360 pad. Its frustrating when Im trying to drop down from the edge of a ledge and Gomez decides to yeet himself into the void, or water which is even worse since you dont die and respawn. Ive heard wonderful things about this game, but its really unfortunate we experienced it for the first time on mobile.
But on mobile with touch screen, it is impossible.
Game crashes after playing for a minute. Terrible and waste of money.
Right after writing our last review a segment took us half an hour because Gomez refused to jump. We saw the button expand and nothing happened. You wont fix this though, because the last time you updated was a year ago and you already have our money.
This game really is fun till you get to the sewers. Hell sewers. You will know what we mean when you get there. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE level. But this is not the only one which is just plain unfair. There are some levels that just are unfair. If they would be hard it would be ok. But we hate unfair levels. Dont recommend the game alone because of this one stupid level alone.
Dont waste money on this. The PlayStation version got us interested, however the game is bugged and wont let us past the first obstacle without shutting down after 5 tries to get past it we deleted it. We which we could get our money back.
On an intricate platformer one relies on the jump button to actually do its job. This one fails at that task about half the time. Finger isnt missing, we see the icon blip like its being pressed. But it just doesnt work. Then we fall losing all progress.
Some times when we press the jump button we dont jump Update: this used to be a 5 star but that jump button REALLY MATTERS AND we CANT PLAY THE GAME WITHOUT IT.
Was anticipating playing this ever since we downloaded the soundtrack. However, the sound effects and music are missing, though the audio settings are at the defaults, and the game always crashes at the same point: the beginning of the real journey.
Please fix the game, it crashes often and its really annoying.
Your game is very awesome and cute A great way to pass the time but theres one thing we think would be helpful in the next bug fix/update PLEASE add an option to change button size! We are playing on an iPod 6 so our buttons are super small and hard to hit And if you are done with that maybe add a joystick option instead of a d pad Thanks for reading.
Please fix the world map glitch where the map icon will not appear on the interface. It makes the game much less enjoyable, especially late in the game. This really needs to be fixed.
This is possibly the best mobile game ever conceived. We think that it is pure perfection. The controls are tight, the concept is revolutionary. We just wish it wasnt as good as it is because now theres no possible way to make a sequel as amazing as the game we have now. Mario has competition.
THANKS, we love the game !!!! PLEASE.
We love fez, as does our 3 yr old son. One of the best of the decade (at least). We would love to play it on our Apple TV (hint, hint). Tactile controls would make fez even better. Thank you.
Ive always wanted to do a run through of this game, its an awesome concept mixed in with an appealing art style. However sometimes when we press the jump button it doesnt jump and we fall to a earlier progression point and do it again just to fall back down. But overall we love it, and we know Phil fish quit due to criticism, but all creators get negative feedback, but its your job to either take it with a smiling face and say ok we understand what you mean and go through with it, or ignore the haters (we know they are tough to avoid, Im being bullied at school) but some of us love this game a lot and are sad to hear that you quit. (p.s) Im sorry we wrote a bible of a review).
Game was the most fun Ive had on mobile since 2013 Minecraft PE. Its a kind of game with story and its still fun. Its not some sort of useless mindless game where you just tap the screen and hope to get a ball in a hoop. The game also makes you feel you need to think a little about how to open a secret door. 4.5/5 Would Recommend. Enjoy newbies.
Please update for the screen size of the 11in iPad Pro.
This version of the game introduced us to Fez, and Im currently going through our second playthrough on our new iPhone XR. We originally played it on our previous phone, the iPhone 6, which was a very flawed, yet suitable machine. When playing Fez on that phone, however, we encountered no bugs or glitches whatsoever, but on our new phone, a giant bug stares us in the face every time we play: we cant see the map. Now Ive heard that this glitch is triggered by going back to the village right after the floating cube thing introduces the map feature to you once you leave the village for the first time. This actually happened when we first tried playing this on our new phone, so we made a new game and didnt go back to the village when the floating cube told us about the map. We played for a while and then stopped after an thirty minutes or so. The next day, we were feeling sick, so we stayed home. After waking up from a nap, we booted Fez up again on our phone, but lo and behold, there wasnt a map on our screen. This is something thats needed, or else Ill just get lost and not realize what path we should focus on and what rooms and areas have secrets in them. Please fix this bug, its gonna drive us crazy if it isnt, and we really want to beat this game again. Fez is the greatest indie game ever made, and we just hope others can experience it in the way it was meant to be played, and without a game-shattering bug staring them in the face.
This game is great, very challenging and fun. We would give it five starts if they fixed the glitch with the map (it doesnt always appear and sometimes we have to restart the app a few times to get it to show up). The map is a pretty critical feature in this game.
In one part, where you have to rotate the screen at the tower, we cant seem to find the platforms where you get to the chest.
Every time we get to the purple level and collect one of the cubes, our game crashes and we have to start all over again.
First of all, let us make something clear: this game is amazing. Ive had fun playing it from start to finish, and the start to finish again to get the last collectibles. However, the iOS port is RIDDLED with weird bugs. The jump button is extremely unresponsive, there is a ladder in the rising lava puzzle that is almost impossible to climb, certain moving objects get stuck in one spot (like floating terrain) but their hit boxes continue to move, the map button has a 1 in 10 chance of appearing every time you load the game, etc, etc. If blitworks could make a last bug fix to the game, that would be great. Maybe then Ill consider that fifth star you guys value so much.
Almost everything about this port works flawlessly, and its really nice to finally have Fez on the go. We did have some issues with the touch controls, notably where the directional buttons actually seem to be more like an invisible control stick with buttons overlaid, since we ended up in a lot of situations where Im pressing up or down and because it was not perfectly up or down on the buttons it ended up actually registering as pressing gently to the side. We feel like the controls would probably work better if they were actually limited to 8 directions instead of a full stick range.
We enjoy this game but cannot figure out how to input or translate codes to solve the puzzles on the iPad. We checked online and most people reference inputting game controller buttons. Is there a way to do right shift left shift etc so we can open doors and solve puzzles? Ive gotten most things open just by going around]d the fez universe.
Ive been following Fez for a while, since it was originally shown in a video around the internets 5 or so years ago. Really excited its come to iOS, and its a really immersive game! We love the storyline, graphics, and gameplay, its all great! We havent played it on iOS with a physical controller, though, so its still subject to those annoying times when your fingers drift off the virtual controls. Luckily, though, Fez is very forgiving you just return to where you were before you died! There are a few things it would be good to see improved: – sometimes the map button just doesnt appear. Theres no rhyme or reason to why. Force quitting the game and relaunching usually fixes it. – the iCloud save slot does allow porting saved games across devices, but it is woefully inconsistent. Many times it doesnt actually sync to other devices. The best way to fix this is to copy your iCloud save slot to another slot, and then copy that back to the iCloud slot. That seems to make the slot be saved to the cloud. – it would be really nice if we could see a history of dialog somewhere. We got to a special room, and accidentally tapped through a line of someone saying something. Did we miss anything important? We dont know! :( But overall, really great port of the game to iOS! Love trying to solve all the mysteries of the pixelverse.
This is a very good game, but as others have said, there is a problem with running and jumping. With all the fixes the company has made to the game, why cant they fix this.
