We still have our original Merlin and it works but having it on our phone is awesome! Be sure to take your phone off silent mode to get the sound effects.
It works beautifully! We had the same issue, no sound, so we 'played' with our settings on our IPhone 13 Pro. Come to find out, it was because we had the toggle on the side of our phone set to 'silence' and it fixed the audio issue. This app plays just like the old Merlin game. So excited.

Thank you so much for creating this game. It has such amazing nostalgic value, we cant even describe how much it took us back to our childhood!! Not sure what some of the other reviewers were referring to regarding the sound. Perhaps, there were some issues with previous versions, but not this one!! It is exactly as we remember it. We just thought Id share that for some strange reason, we are able to remember the button presses based on the existing light patterns that quickly allow us to win Magic Square. Im not sure how, but our mind and fingers know exactly which buttons to push to get the square to form. Bizarre!! Oh, did we say, Thank you? LOL.
Thank you so very much to the developers of this game. The handheld electronica game called Merlin was a big part of our childhood. We were so happy to find this app. It is a faithful rendition of the actual game, and brings back so many memories.
Shout out the genius developer. The look and the sound are spot on. We were looking for an online version and found this instead. Playing it is like going into a time machine…so awesome. By far the best use of technology we have seen in years. Well worth the price. Thanks.
For some reason we had a flashback to what we now know was called magic square on that red handheld game of our youth. We web searched and found it was Merlin, and instead of forking over $20 for an antique one on eBay we got this ap for a buck. Its what we remembered! Oddly we didnt remember the other games except tic tac toe. Good for a few moments of nostalgia and realizing how easily we were entertained way back when.

This app mirrors the hand held Merlin Game of the 80s. So glad we bought it!!! It is what we expected down to an exact replica of the sound.
Im so glad somebody finally made an ambulator for this game. Merlin was one of the first electronic games we got for Christmas back in 1977 and this video version of it is actually pretty good considering that, Im using a touchscreen which is very difficult, but also, Im grateful and pleasantly surprised that they kept most of the original sound for the game except for the lose sound is slightly different, but not enough to distract from the game. We would love it if this developer could now take it a step further and create emulation for the master Merlin, which came out in 1982. That game had nine games and the color of it would be blue, we suspect that the coding for that game would be harder. We also appreciate the fact that it mustve taken some doing to get the coding for this game up and running and we note very pleasantly that the reaction time between the time you touch the keypad to the time that the game reacts is quite seamless and is a model for game developers. Usually the simplest coding is the best. Thank you and please create more games like this. Youre actually helping somebody with multiple disabilities. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Just bought this game. There is no sound. We sent the above review and still no one has helped with issue or provided a refund. Not apple or the app developer. No way to contact app developer.

Cannot get any sound, without that the app is essentially useless to us.
This would be perfect but the sound on the game doesnt work.
We have the iPhone 6 plus. This game runs well and faithfully reproduces our old merlin that looked like a huge red cordless phone. It's a bargain at 99 cents compared to changing out the batteries when they died on the original merlin :).
If you remember and loved the Merlin handheld game, you should buy this app. If you don't remember this game but love old eight bit games, then you should also buy this app. Plays like the original. Sounds like the original. As much fun as the original. To the developer, we don't know how you did it, but thank you! Thank you! Thank you.

Not a bad emulation, but the sound cuts out. After the first magic square game, the number buttons no longer make noise.
