Afterplace is a Roleplaying/Adventure game from Evan Kice, first launched in 9th December 2022.
It’s rated 12+ and currently has 582+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Afterplace Stand Out

An open world adventure game filled with silly characters and terrible secrets.

Afterplace is an adventurous indie game for mobile devices. It's a huge open world, full of hidden secrets, treasures, and creatures. You'll run around the woods, fight monsters, and talk to ostensibly shady characters! All from your pocket! Be warned though – you never know what the forest might be hiding, and not all trails are paved. Labyrinths and dungeons are tucked away in the most concealed nooks. There are no waypoints in Afterplace. You'll have to forge your own path.

Afterplace has been designed from the ground up to be a fast, fluid, beautiful experience for mobile. There are no virtual buttons. You can move and attack by touching anywhere. You can tap objects directly to interact or attack, use two thumbs like a traditional controller, or control the game with a physical gamepad. The game will adapt dynamically to your play style. Pick up and set down the game at your own pace, it will always save your progress. Afterplace is made to feel like a full-fledged indie adventure game that fits in your pocket.

Community Insight:

We walked into it blind after stumbling upon it in the App Store. Usually hard to find games arent worth anything, ranging from cheap cash grabs to soulless nonsense. But Afterplaceis such a different game entirely. The Legend of Zelda/UnderTale influence is the first thing that caught our attention while playing. We fell in love the moment a squirrel we attacked ran offscreen and led us to a big surprise (emphasis on big). After that, we really couldnt put the game down. The details we found in the world were so well fleshed out, and it feels lived in. Everything we interacted with/talked to gave us a reason to care and pursue crazy side quests. We loved the quirkiness, its got such a distinct, well crafted charm you truly cant find with many games. We got so invested in the stories and the complete mystery of the events unfolding before us. We love getting to unravel the story ourselves and catching the details of the world that each tell a story. Each big story piece gave context in a way that had us in awe, especially the big main ending(jaw was on the ground). Gameplay was simple, fluid but gave enough to do so that it never grew stale to play. This game has so much care and love put into it, for just one guyEvan really gave us a piece of art worth talking about. From the serious moments to the all around goofiness of this game, it was such a delight to experience. Im looking forward to anything this guy has next. Worth more than 8$ in our opinion.

This game kinda changed our life. It breathes new life into the mobile gaming world. Dont be mislead by the simple graphics, the gameplay and story are some of the most substantive Ive played in a long while. Starts off kinda fantasy and then gets rather deep. Very slow burn but worth the play. We especially love that you can turn off damage for the hard bosses (Unlike Elden Ring). Please provide backbone support. Thx.

Great game needs keyboard support or a steam release.

Our god we could play this game forever. Its perfect.

At $1 we feel like we got away with something. This reminds us of nothing so much as a mini-Undertale: it probably took us 8 hours to finish? 8-10? And it left a really good impression. Theres nothing that we felt it did extremely uniquely, but we really enjoyed everything it did, if that makes sense. Incredibly worth your dollar. Id expect it to be on steam for $10 with 100,000 reviews and an Overwhelmingly Positive moniker or something.

This is one of the best games Ive ever played. It brought back memories of Zelda with a hint of Undertale. Im genuinely surprised this game is not at the top of the charts.

Such a great game. On a trip and enjoyed every second of this game. We finished one play through and understand there are multiple endings and more exploration to be had. We would highly recommend to any and all game heads young and old. Classic Zelda feel with a modern undertale story line and dialogue. Try it out when youre looking for a good game to sink a good amount of well played time into.

We have beaten it 3 times now, trying to get the different endings. Every time we have been impressed. 1 thing though, The reset button is gone so Im just running around with nothing to do.

And Ive even played a lot of mobile games, but this is truly one of the best. It takes you places you would never expect. Just buy this game.

We like the game. Nice little fun dialogue. Good bit to explore.Amazing story.

Evan Kice has created something special here. This game has consumed many of our waking thoughts. It makes us feel uneasy in a way $70 AAA games have never done. The world building and writing here are immaculate. Im not one to review but it must be said that this is truly something special.

Please make another one! This game was amazing. It was actually a bonding experience for us and our 8, and 10yr old girls who are very waldorfy but we gave them access to this game and we had so much fun. It was fun exploring and venturing around and sharing tips. We finished it and Im dying for a second one/we needed more from the old cassettes and the sword and everywhere else.

Id love to be able to zoom in. Our vision is horrible, even with glasses, and we find that the scale is just too small to see the awesomely detailed pixel art. Id also like a way to move faster, so a run mode could be helpful.

By far one of the best games we have played on our iPhone. Whimsical and surreal all at once.

We bought this game blind because we wanted something charming and easy to jump into when we had downtime. We wasnt expecting the gameplay to be so high quality, but what really shocked us was how invested in the story and the world building we became. Everything unfolds seamlessly into fright, sadness, and joy. Turning every corner, encountering every new character, felt ripe with the possibility of devastating us, horrifying us, or revealing some terrible truth about who our character is. We cannot recommend the experience of this game enough.

This game is truly a diamond in the rough. We never thought Id love a mobile game as much as we loved this one. Great characters, interesting story, engaging gameplay, and wonderful music. This game was a reminder to us that video games are truly an art. Evan we hope you keep making games.

The dialogue, the attention to detail, the characters.. THEYRE ALL SO COOL!!!! We just love the world and how it doesnt take itself too seriously It honestly reminds us a little bit of Toby Fox and how its very playful and silly and whimsical. We cant wait to see how this game developes or when Evan Kice makes another game.

Afterplace is truly something special. Hard to believe this entire game was made by one personits beautiful, immersive, and unforgettable. The music is incredible, the gameplay is smooth and engaging, and the story kept us hooked from start to finish. We couldnt put it down until we beat it. Easily one of the best mobile games Ive ever played.

We just got off a long haul flight, and we barely realized it because in that time, we went from first opening the app to beating the game in 9 straight hours. We have never been so engaged by a mobile game before, and we will definitely be watching for whatever this dev is working on next. Incredible game.

This game is like a AAA open world adventure puzzle game like Zelda but made to work perfectly for mobile. It is a great amount of play time and you can even replay the whole thing and get different interactions and endings. Amazing art, amazing writing, and breathtaking attention to detail. This is obviously a labor of love. Its incredible. Bravo to the SOLO developer.

We just started the game and we're really intrigued and expect to enjoy it a lot as we continue to play. But…. We really hate how the virtual joystick moves with us and isnt fixed in place. If there already is a way to lock it then please let us know and if not, please add it as an option in settings. It is genuinely a problem for us and makes it harder to fight and traverse for absolutely no reason. So please, let us lock the joystick.

This game is a literal masterpiece and we think its the best game Ive ever played on iOS. While the combat is simple, the exploration is amazing, along with the story, soundtrack, and fun cast of characters. We actually got a bit emotional at the end of the gamethe game just hits that hard. What an amazing journey. We only wish we could experience playing and progressing through this game for the first time again. Also, being able to fully play this game with vertical orientation and with one hand makes this great for just chilling in bed, exploring this awesome world and story. 10/10 game.

We rarely write reviews, this may actually be our first one ever. We havent played a better iOS game than this. The story, gameplay, art style, and music are all exceptional. If this were a $20 game, youd definitely get your money's worth. We just completed our third playthrough. Without giving any spoilers, we can say that players will probably miss a few details during their first couple of runs. We highly recommend getting this game and coming back to write a review to support the developers, as we need more games like this in an App Store filled with microtransactions games.

The characters, story, overall writing, development, plot twists. Everything. Awesome sci-fi, great gameplay, fun and interesting exploration. Great controls for IOS and totally playable on our phone. Even the soundtrack is great. Its super interesting. Has just enough woah what was THAT?! Moments mixed with generally relaxing and chill exploration. Its a great game and we want more.

Easily the best game Ive played this year – unforgettable story, music, characters, and twists that had us shook like no other game has done.

We beat the game. It was great. We wish we could look at more of the lore for what happened to a bunch of the characters. We have questions . What happened to ANNIE.

Im tired of games skipping things like maps and quest trackers and then having the nerve to tell us its a feature.

We never leave reviews but this game is literally perfect. Im always looking for deep, engaging games that we can play even when frequently interrupted and Afterplace fits the bill! The story is deep and excellent, the characters are endearing and unique, the controls are perfect. This is the best game Ive ever played on iOS.

Absolutely phenomenal story, characters, and a charming art style. We randomly stumbled upon this game on the App Store, and its one of the best IOS games (and RPG games in general) Ive had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have 7 dollars to spend, this game is more than worth it.

A lot of love was put into this game. We dont usually have patience for adventure games these days, but this one is too good. Couldnt stop playing. Thanks, devs.

We came into this game expecting something casual and lighthearted. Something we wouldnt take too seriously. NOPE!!! This game is insane. Huge world, great lore, challenging combat, it has it all. Do yourself a favor and play this game.

Yes, it is actually that good. If you need a random game to get sucked into, this ones worth more than a cup of coffee. Its charming, beautiful, heartfelt and fun. The worst thing about it is that it ends. We laughed out loud, our jaw dropped many times, and the game managed to make us cry by the end. The game play is simple, the enemies formidable, and the heroes are very endearing. All out of the mind of some guy in Texas. We will be waiting to hear on any new projects. Solid 5/5.

In an app store full of games with microtransactions, this one dares to stand out from the rest. The developer truly has a gamers heart and its clear their goal here was to create a game that players would love and enjoy without spending so much money to level up their character. This game, with its simple, but beautifully written story, gameplay, thats not complex but fun, memorable characters, and music, we cant help but keep coming back to experience this piece of art over and over. We love this game so much, its ruined mobile gaming for us because we cant find another game this good. We truly hope you make more games or continue to add content to this game. If you have a list of investors for a next project, please add us to it, we would be more than happy to contribute to any future developments.

Easily one of the best games we have had the fortune to play on a phone, and a masterpiece for a single artists work. The story, characters, setting, and art are all magnificent. The combat is fun and simple, and its a surprisingly addictive pick up and play for a few minutes or an hour. We would recommend to everyone we know.

We bought this game on a whim, and it became the first game we have beaten in a long time without any guides! Other than the in-game rudimentary map you find, there is little to no hand holding. The game is incredibly charming and you can feel the love from the dev in every decision you make. We legitimately love this game. Please give it a try, look at it as an Undertale-like.

At first it may seem like just an ordinary whimsical action-adventure. Hardly the first game where you run through the forest and kill slimes. But if you explore diligently, theres something deeper and darker here that transforms this game into a completely unique experience. Its a lovingly handcrafted world where every detail is well thought out. Combat and puzzles require thinking but arent too difficult. In all, this is one of our favorite iOS games of all time! Solo developer, unique vision, fair price: a welcome relief from the flood of mass-market freemium games.

The true ending made us cry its better than Minecraft.

We binged played it for 4 days. Its worth every penny! Kinda mind blowing.

This game was better than many PC/console games we played this year. It tugged at our heartstrings and mystified us at every turn. Any self respecting person who plays games must play this game.

We never leave reviews but Im about two hours into this game and already love it. Been looking for weeks for a game to play and couldnt get hooked to anything other than Balatro. But this is the RPG we didnt know we needed. Super interesting story and charming game play. Makes us want to know what happens next.

This game is so original and fun! It satisfies the part of us that wants to wander around and find the secret passages, learn the mazes. The characters are all interesting. The dialogue is funny and enjoyable (which is rare). We love all the crazy products you can buy from the vendors and the wacky effects they induce. The story just kept getting and deeper and we were very immersed and interested with the whole thing start to finish. It reminded us of if legend of Zelda and Myst had a baby. Evan Kice, you are a genius and we sincerely hope you will make a next chapter of Afterplace or a prequel because we want more. We dont want it t be over. If its an issue of money start a Kickstarter and youll get funding. Anyway, thank you for this incredible gem of a game.

Surprisingly intriguing story and depth, with fluid controls designed specifically for mobile.

Where to begin? The storyline is definitely vague at the beginning, but as you progress, you start to see all the pieces fitting beautifully and masterfully. The though process between the different graphics depending on the world is lovely. The main graphics and world remind us of playing the original Zelda games with trying to memorize all the pathways and hidden areas. Great variety of monsters to defeat, and very touching ending with a beautiful resolve. If we were to make ANY changes, itd be that the world was a little bigger, and that youd be able to find and use more weapons. Cannot wait to join the next adventure with Yu and the friends you make along the way!! Very well done.

Got this game on a whim because it was on sale and looked cute. Was NOT expecting the depth of artistry, worldbuilding, character development and story that this game delivered. We love a game that doesn't hold your hand and that lets you explore and figure out things on your own. This game did that well and had so many fun secrets and surprises to discover along the way. We fell in love with this world and its characters. Will definitely be returning for another playthrough, but will miss the experience of going in blind for the first time! A new all time favorite.

Easily the best game Ive ever played on our phone. Its put together incredibly well. Its just challenging enough without being too easy or too difficult and the controls are stupid simple but work perfect. We hope Evan makes a sequel or an equivalent game.

We were getting tired of finding mobile games that we would download, play for 10 minutes, then instantly delete. We needed a new game to get into. Then this game kept popping up. We eventually said screw it. Why not try? This game has seared itself into our brain. Ive only played few games that hook us like this one. Heck, we never write reviews for games on the App Store. But we just had to write about how absolutely charming this world(or fabrication of a world)is. You get sucked into the charm instantly, with the first thing you see being a demonic-looking portal, setting you up for exactly what this game is: a trippy game full of many moments of existential crisis hidden inside a charming Zelda/Chrono Trigger-style game. Our favorite thing has to be the writing. There are moments where we straight up laughed out loud at things characters said, simply because it was so charming. But there are times the writing is so good that it scares you. But Ill let you play for yourself to find out Anyway, Im just mad we didnt find this game sooner. If you have 7 bucks to spare and youre looking for a good game to play, give this a shot. We promise you wont be disappointed.

We recently bought a controller for our phone and was looking for a little time waster RPG to play while we waited to get our steam link and GeForce connected to our phone. We picked this game up as something we thought Id play for an hour and be done. Not only did this game get us in the first 5 minutes but it kept us utterly enamored til the very 3nd. The controls feel very simple but the combat mechanics make it very layered and complex. The RPG progression isnt standard which is absolutely more than ok and gave us a breath of fresh air. With amazing world building, heartbreaking lore and lovable and actually funny characters, alongside a slew of twists and turns. It put us in such a good place with ourselves after playing and genuinely almost had us in tears at some point. Im a cynic and we have nothing negative whatsoever to say about this experience. Ill probably buy it on steam for ourselves and a few others as well. We love this game and we can safely say this game is one of our favorites of the decade. We hope to see more from Evan Kice in the near future.

Lots of Asian players will buy the game immediately.

Love this game! Im a very casual gamer, mostly just iOS games. We like Terraria, Starbound, and Junk Jack. Afterplace is simpler in that you dont have to collect and craft things like the other listed games, but the worlds have various hidden things to find. The navigation is straight, too, in terms of pressing and holding to get around. Fighting is simply tapping to use your sword and swiping to dodge. It is very intuitive and easy for casual gamers to pick up and play. The invisibility mode is a great feature for casual gamers who like to play games but are not super skilled at fighting things. We did have to Google things when we got stuck, but we are a very basic/casual gamer. The exploration of different worlds is delightfully fun, and the character interactions are crucial to the game storyline. ***SPOILER: Depending on how you interact with the characters, you will get different endings. As a mental health professional, we truly enjoyed the story arc for the best ending. This game has more depth than you might expect for a phone game. What is really impressive is that this was all created by one guy who quit his engineering job to create the game. We counsel young high school and college students, and a good handful want to be video game designers. This game is an inspirational example for budding gamer developers. We really enjoyed this game and would highly recommend it! It was worth the one-time cost.

We freaking LOVVE THIS GAMEEEEEE.
