Letter Lattice – Puzzle Game Review

Letter Lattice is a Puzzle/Word game from Ethan Zarov, first launched in 2nd July 2021.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 547+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Letter Lattice Stand Out

Letter Lattice combines the best parts of anagrams and crosswords into challenging word-weaving madness!

How do DOG and CAT relate to each other? What about GUITAR and MELODY? I made this game as an appreciation for the intertwining nature of words in the English language.

Most word games have you searching for anagrams within a single word. In Letter Lattice, puzzles use anagrams as connectors to morph from one word to another, each word you find being essential for solving the rest of the puzzle.

— SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE —
Whether you’re better at anagramming or solving crosswords, there’s something that suits you in Letter Lattice. With hundreds of handmade puzzles, beginners can become experts, climbing their way up from “Easy Threes” to the dreaded Super-Skull puzzles.

— SOMETHING FOR COMPETITORS —
“Arcade Mode” pits you against procedurally-generated puzzles of increasing difficulty until the clock runs out. Race to solve as many puzzles as you can, gaining bonus points for finding rare words. Can you reach Milestone 5? What about Milestone 10?!

— SOMETHING FOR ACHIEVERS —
Unlock achievements by completing daily puzzles, solving clues, and zooming through Arcade Mode. As you progress, earn vibrant, hand-crafted color palettes that change the look of the entire game. From the earthy greens of the “Sequoia” palette to the rich pastels of “Coral,” there’s something here you’ll love.

—ALL FEATURES (for FREE!) —

  • 20 Puzzle Packs (with 400+ crafted puzzles)

  • Infinte Procedural Puzzles in Arcade Mode

  • New Puzzles Daily!

  • Statistics and Achievements to track progress

  • 8 Beautiful Color Palettes

~ A note from me ~

— I started developing Letter Lattice after playing these puzzles in a notebook on New York subway commutes. I enjoyed the paper puzzles so much, I spent over a year building the optimal digital interface for the puzzles to exist within.

Along the way, I discovered so much about the English language becoming entranced by the similarities between words I had once thought were very different. I began to appreciate even the simplest of words and how they relate to others. If you have read this far, I hope playing Letter Lattice will help you find this same magic that made me passionate to develop this game.

Community Insight:

The sounds and haptics feel great, the achievements unlocking new palettes is a wonderful motivator, and the puzzles are perfect for those in-between moments in the day. We also like that it apologizes for when an ad shows up. That was kind. Great game and we like the transition animation :).

We just started playing, but we love the color scheme, we love how unique and fun the game is to play, and we love that you made hints free forever! To top that off we like how you can get the full game for just $3, it's much better than those games that force you to buy a subscription! :).

We love this game!! There are so many game options. The messages and fonts are so fun. So are the colors. Such a good app, you can tell the creator had fun with it. :).

Great defintely recommend, just wanted to know if you are planning to make an android app for this app.

Fantastic game and it just happens to the only mobile game Ive ever played that we could feel the devs personality shine through. Ethan deserves all the stars. The design is so satisfying, the game is challenging (but not frustrating). We wish there were more mobile games like this. We dont even have constructive feedback this game is fantastic.

Its a little confusing at first but easy to get ahold of because the tutorial does a great job of explaining how to play the game. You get to play a ton of levels for free, and the game overall is very aesthetically pleasing. Yes the free version has ads, but its $2.99 to buy the entire game. Let the man get his well deserved bag. If he releases anymore games Ill definitely have to play them.

We have nothing bad to say. The tutorials, game modes, and fast-pace the game has are to love. Everything is explained perfectly and while it could take a bit of time for some to get used to, if you like word games it should be very much to your liking. -we have a minor suggestion which isnt a negative, but something interesting. We find ourselves making words that, while we can infer their meanings, we sometimes dont know what they mean. We think itd be nice if once you complete a puzzle and the Level Completed! Screen with the time and Next Level button pop up you could press the words you made and get a brief definition of them. The feature could be expanded upon too; when writing the word then the definition shows. It isnt necessary by any means, and not having it isnt something that takes away from the amazing gameplay, but for the purpose of learning new words while playing a game we enjoy, we think itd be a good quality-of-life feature. Besides that, the game has immense charm and we love it.

The tutorial is an excellent step by step explanation of how the game works! It includes info on help along the way. We loved "hearing" directly from the developer. We're looking forward to playing.

This game grew a little on us. We didnt understand the basics of the colors. Now we like playing. Also, the sounds and music are really fun. The UI is fun too.

Love this game; its a fresh word game that works for all skill levels. The built in dictionary isnt exactly the official Scrabble dictionary but is pretty comprehensive. The $3 for ad-free is easily worth it. Requests for the developer: – More packs please! At the rate Im going Ill finish the ones provided in like a week, – A super hard daily challenge thats a seven letter word? – Eight letter puzzles? Thanks for making this! Im enjoying it quite a lot.

First, this game is just fun. It's an interesting, engaging concept with a large amount of free content. Moreso, in an era of thousands of crossword-esque games, each one with more ads than the last, this game is a breath of fresh air. You can FEEL the developer's presence in this game, from the introduction and tutorial to the apologetic note attached to mandatory (but shockingly unintrusive) ads. Also, again – just a fun game.

This is beautifully designed. It takes a game that we know, but makes it better and more interesting and difficult. We really appreciate that it works in both portrait and landscape modes.

Thank you so much for fixing the archives to show whats been played Really loving this game.

It was great until November when the daily game stopped working. Figured out we could still play if every day we rolled the calendar back to October first, then to November, but we had to do that every single day. Once December started, that trick stopped working, so we havent been able to play the daily game at all now. Regular play works fine, its just the daily that doesnt work.

Thanks, Ethan, for making the game work in landscape. Youre a pro. We wrote a longer response, but App Store ate it. Just know we appreciate what you do. Meanwhile, can you add support for external keyboard? Thatd get 5/5 for us. :) Everyone else: if you like word games, you should give this one a go. Apple: how about paragraphs? Or a are you sure you want to cancel your review when you tap 3 pixels outside the review box? How about a way to review the App Store.

Im an iOS dev ourselves, and Im blown away by the quality. Beautiful palettes and animations, no predatory micro-transactions, and just extremely well made. Happily paid for the upgrade.

Dog you did everything about this game right. Not even just the game, the way everything is layed out and the design of everything is perfect. This so the exact thing we wanna sit and waste time playing.

This is an amazing game! There is an ad every 3-5 puzzles and, as far as we can tell, the ads dont interrupt any music you have on!! The free version is limited, but it only costs $3 to get the full game with no ads and additional backgrounds. The only SLIGHT note we would have is that the timer for how fast you finish counts the seconds when you are in an ad, so if you watch and ad and take 5 seconds to beat it, itll say it took 20 seconds. Not a big note and we would highly recommend to anyone who likes Weaver and wants to relax.

We read through and participated through the tutorial and am still a little confused on how the game itself works. For example the word is LET and SAY. We pull S from SAY and make SET. Then we make TAS by rearranging some. Then it does some automatic moving and adds the Y at the end to make SAY and then says COMPLETED . But we never used the Y so wouldnt we have lost? Perhaps its just our own slowness but we cant comprehend how Ive won. REGARDLESS A great game and Ive been able to use the indicators as helpers. The tutorial is a great resource and its a fun game.

We think we played about 30% of the easy puzzles before we were sold on this game. USE HEADPHONES! If you arent playing in a way that lets you appreciate the music youre missing out. This is a fun and engaging puzzle and we found ourselves chuckling at how fun it is several times already. Easily worth the premium price. ( As a side note. We have big hands and don't really like playing phone games in standard position. We would LOVE a future update with a landscape mode. ).

Ive played several word games and this has to be one of our favorites. The games design is so clean and simple and the game is also just a great concept. Theres a ton of different packs so its hard to get bored of the game. Theres also barely any ads and the ones you do get are super short. 10/10 word game.

We think that it is safe to say that this word app is one of the best out there. We love how we can use hints to help us find the answers to tough questions when they happen to come across. We think that it is is super rewarding to play this game and have recommended it to many of our friends! This game developer is top tier and should be widely recognized.

This game is fun and creative and our new favorite.

Such a great game and so addicting. We love the ability to use clues to solve. Great game.

Sounds cheesy we know This game is so well thought out and it really gets our brain engaged also its good enough for us to write review which we never do. Once we have the few extra dollars for the Ingame purchase we will gladly support such an intelligent creator.

Something new and challenging. We appreciate there being enough options and game modes to choose from when we want to play but dont want to think too hard as well as when Im looking for a challenge. You can spend 10 seconds on a puzzle or 10 minutes.

Great game whether using the regular version or the crossword style clues. We love the clues! Love this game.

Dropped outta school so we could beat every level.

Cant tell you how good it is to see a quality puzzle game on the app store!! Super great work.

Wow, finally a word game that actually flexes our brain!! We always felt babied by other word games but the unique structure and novelty forces you to think differently. The 7 letter challenge will have you crying in frustration. :D.

Our 30 minutes per day allotted for NYTs crossword and spelling bee has now turned into an hour of letter lattice and few minutes of NYTs puzzles. Well done.

This is a great new game to challenge your mind as you have to wait in various locations in your life.

This game is amazing!! We loved playing it so much that we were late to our own sons bar mitzvah because we were so enamored by this game! Great job.

This is such a good word game!!! Our kids (9 & 12) are so engaged with it! Im excited to see them building their word skills and having fun at the same time. We have been enjoying playing it ourselves too :).

Great game. Amazing design and interface.

A great game for a word aficionados! Get a friend and play against one another in a timed contest..Or tackle the game without clues for a real test.

This game uses more thinking compared to regular word puzzles and is a great thing to play in order to pass a bit of time. We recommend for long car rides especially.
