What Makes Hipster Chess Stand Out

Hipster Chess is a smart and addictive time killer, similar to many other match-3 games, but with a clever twist. There's no other player, no checkmate. Line up 4 or more chess pieces to clear them off the board. Sounds simple? The trick is that pieces only move like they do in real chess!

  • TouchArcade.com – "Hipster Chess goes further than most match-3s in creating a smart and thoughtful experience."

  • AppAdvice.com – "Hipster Chess turns the game of chess on its head and then has it breakdance."

  • SlideToPlay.com – "Hipster Chess is incredibly addictive, and also an interesting experiment in genre mash-ups."

Even if you never liked chess, remember, Hipster Chess is totally not chess! Its simplicity will amaze and entertain you!

  • Play for hours or minutes
  • Smart and addictive gameplay
  • A Match 3 game on steroids
  • Blitz game modes for those who dare
  • Full Game Center integration
  • Multiple leaderboards and achievements
  • Unlock achievements to increase score multiplier

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

We applaud the developer for such a clever mashup of match games and chess. Its not frustratingly hard, but its not mindless either, you do have to think. But its relaxing too. We immediately paid the small fee to remove banner ads. Im happy to support developers who monetize fairly. Finally, a match game thats not childish! So glad we randomly found this when searching for a new game to play. This one will be staying on our phone. Thank you developer.

This is a very good game that offers satisfying puzzle solving by loving chess pieces to line up 4 or more pieces in a row. The problem is it seems the developers dont really want to spend time on this game. There are no options to change the look of the board or colors of pieces. And the most important thing for us is that there is no way to turn off hints. When you have 3 pieces lined up and when there is a way to make a line with a 4th pieces the hint comes up. We want to construct a longer line and this annoying hint is distracting. Maybe the devs are not interested in improving the game because the game isnt bringing them any profit. We guess we understand.

Please oh please update this game for iOS 9! It won't work anymore and we miss it.

This game has made us late to work many times! Try the blitz to make you earn more points.

This game is great! We're not very good, but it's fun to play and try to get better! So much fun.

Great app! Fun and addicting! Definite recommend.

Love it but game keeps freezing up after just 2-3 turns. Be great if this was fixed but until really play the game. If this was fixed, would definitely increase our rating to 5 stars.

There's a couple of minor UI improvements that could be made. For one, it would be nice to have an easy indicator of which direction the pawns will move before you click on them. When you're playing both sides at once, it's easy to forget which is the "red" side and which is the "blue" side of the board. A colorblind mode would be nice, as well.

Your game seems to have some serious leaks right now. So for now we cant play a full game. Would like to see it work.

We've played many similar games, but the addition of chess pieces that move as chess pieces should brings a whole new dimension to this "match four or more" game. It is simple to learn but surprisingly challenging to play. We've had a game going for hours now and we just keep going back to it! Love it.

A few suggestions. We would like to see: 1. Another color added to the board as a third "person" and maybe make this a separate game mode. 2. Add a bonus pawn that glows or something that is allowed to move TWO spaces forward (JUST LIKE IN REAL CHESS) 3. We would like a game center button in the achievements list the way you have one in the Leaderboards list. Just in case we wanna see the game enter look. 4. Please at more elements of chess. Like a special rook or king that can "castle" with each other. Idk your the developers. Make it work.

We love how it is essentially the classic Lines game but using Chess pieces. Not only do the pieces move according to their real world Chess counterparts, but your new piece pool is based on whichever pieces out of the real game's 32 (16 pieces for each color) are currently in reserve. This means the extremely handy King and Queen pieces are rare and Pawns are abundantly common (although, just like real Chess, any Pawns that make it to the opposite side of the board can be promoted to Queens).

We're so happy we took a chance on this app. Such an entertaining game. Unique! We're a chess player ourselves but anyone that knows how the pieces move and plays bejeweled will like this game. So much fun.
