We have this game on an old Android tablet and it runs ad free. We decided to put it on our iPhone and the ads kill the gameplay. 5 dollars for ad free?? Ok lets do it and now the game gets stuck on level 2 with no advancement possible!!!!! What the &$&!!!!!! EDIT: To remove ads do the following, disable the ability of Retro Grid to use Cellular Data in your settings. This will stop the ads from popping up. Gameplay is smooth and addicting once again.

Cute game. Unique, but ads smack in the middle of game play made this game get uninstalled today.
Have not been able to play the game. It crashes back to our home screen right after we select a ship and power ups.
Rated 1-star for ads which force themselves over game screen as you are playing. Granted the game programmers surprisingly PAUSE gameplay while this happens, this is still inexcusable on all levels of tolerable user interaction. That said, graphics are good. Gameplay is simple yet challenging. Power ups are not permanent upgrades and you have to buy "continues" to retain temporary powerups to the next level.
Never played a game where the ads pop up in the middle of playing?!?!? Game is awesome, but too hard to get into a groove when the ads pop up. Move up several levels and boom… Ads. When the ad ends, end up dying. How about you have the stupid commercials at the end of the game. Just not fun to play.
DONT MAKE IN APP PURCHASE OR THE GAME WILL BECOME USELESS. It won't let us go to level 3 after we purchased coins and removed the ads. It was working fine – with lots of in game ads – before we purchased the coins. Pathetic that the developers didn't test this part. We just paid $7 and made the game unplayable.
You get stuck on certain levels and no more aliens come out but every now and then..it doesn't do that on our note 5 ..just our iPad Air 2.

We remember last year if play this for so long and loved it. Now there are so many ads we can hardly play for like 5 minutes.
Update: New update is even worse. Bug fixes = more ads including pop-up videos during gameplay! Deleted for good, way to screw up even further. Stay far away unless you're going to throw at least $5 at them to remove ads, we're not. As a one-touch retro theme shooter it has potential (and if it can avoid copyright infringement claims based on the enemy designs) but it has some real problems-Achievements don't unlock when you meet the requirements, the tutorial is really lacking and a $5 minimum IAP to remove ads is ridiculous (the ad placement is not bad) among other things. Deleted for now but if the issues are fixed we will gladly give it another chance as its at least a 4-star game.
Simple game with even easier controls that is still stimulating enough to you to keep you playing more.
