Sorry as this review is longish: Ive read and played all the current Hyuga books along with any text-based or story driven game you can imagine. So far, Samurai of Hyuga game (the entirety of the series) is beyond anything the play store and other sites have to offer in comparison. All the books lead and grow onto eachother, soon you feel love or hate for characters to the point we dont normally feel but did for this series. With each book we think they are lengthier with the most recently released book (#4?) being the longest with some big turn of events that made us want to cry (no spoilers). We are very much looking forward to the next book.
Originally didn't think we'd end up buying this because we haven't been impressed by many interactive novels but NOT buying it was absolutely not an option after the free chapter….that was some of the best two hours of our life. We love everything about it. The story and characters have us as hooked as any big name movie or novel series. We also really appreciate the touch of being able to choose your gender as well as the gender of your romantic interest. Going back now to replay with different choices. MAN!! Our wallet is just waiting to open for the next stories. Absolutely amazing.
If we had the power to do so we would make an interactive anime kind of game on Netflix except this would take to long and expensive most likely but we love the game.
We wish we could rate higher than a five this is one of the best CoG out there. Plus it has cute Red-panda in it.
Im very late to the party but we hope its still going. We can count the number of times Ive written a review on an app on one hand, because most of the time we dont care. But with this game we just had to. Im writing a review on this game but it encompasses every other book (spoiler-free!). One thing we really appreciate about this story was that it was easy to read. As in, we understood everything that was going on (though understanding Japanese terms certainly helps) and even though you guys had the choice to make the reader wait until they could read the next couple of chapters (ex.: like how some story-based games require keys and you can only access a number of chapters until you have to wait literal hours for your keys to refill or pay money to refill it instantly), you didnt. Although SoH is worth all the money, we really appreciate how you guys didnt do this, as it would have definitely discouraged us and other readers from continuing. Second, the writing. Its wonderful! Its hilarious at times and we actually find ourselves laughing where laughing is due. We think the characters are intricately written and we genuinely care about what happens to them and where their story goes. Dont even get us started on the choices! The choices in this game are difficult, but in a good way (?) at least to us. We try to increase our attunement whenever we can and we find that the choices are very realistic and actually hard, as real-life choices usually are. By the time of this reviews publishing, we will be almost halfway through Book 2. We will hopefully be buying the rest, as well! Long story short, if you would like to appreciate a good story, get this game! You wont regret it.
Have to say we absolutely loved the book and am happy that the series is still continuing definitely something Ill give our first comment to would talk more about the story by aint the best with explaining stuff so wont but we have a question we just bought the second book and It wont let us transfer our data from the first book could ya tell us how please if its possible(and if you guys still check this) and finally give our thanks to the author for makin a really great book that we could enjoy keep up the good work man.
Best of the best!! Ive read 75% of the COG/ HG library, and this series is by far our favorite. The writing is so engagingly well done, that we refused to put down our iPad until we noticed the sunrise in our window. Your accrued stats actually matter, and have a barring on the outcome/results of your choices. The characters have amazing depth which causes the reader to get emotionally attaches and invested in them. So excited for the next installment! Buy this.
It has action, comedy, horror, romance– what's not to love? We do kind of wish it were possible to make our character both perverted and chivalrous about some things: as in, obsessed with the body but also having a code of honor. But other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed this game. The end was an emotional roller coaster. We really enjoy the characters so far– we don't know if we can pick a favorite at this point, which probably goes to show. It's definitely worth the price.

In our entire smartphone possessing life we have NEVER went out of our way to leave a review for anything in the AppStore or the google play store, regardless if we loved it or hated it. But we would be an absolute Baka if we didnt do it right now. If we wrote down what we truly felt about this game this review would rival the length of the game itself. Ill sum it up like this: to us this game is essentially one of the best manga/books/stories you will ever read, and YOU are the main character. And the further you get, the more immersed you become in the story, all the way up to the point of imagining yourself right in the middle of it all, and the words, thoughts and actions of the main character genuinely feeling as if they are coming from your own mind. The endless ways the story unfolds based on the decisions you choose make for one heck of a mixture of fear/anticipation/regrets/ and excitement that builds up simultaneously as you make your choice and hesitate to push next page to see what unfolds. And the way the choices you make affect the stats your character develops, that then have true affects on things you try to do in the game, ingenious! If you dont spend the $4 youre insane. You spend way more than that on a son of a baconator meal at Wendys. Plus this wont make you fat. Cant wait for the next chapter.
We have nothing bad to say about this game, honestly. Ive already sung its praises to one friend who we think will end up as hooked as we are, and will definitely recommend to others. Worth the money – the story is so captivating and good, and we absolutely adore how interactive it is! So much work had to have gone into it. Definitely will be purchasing the subsequent books.

Actually we just didnt want to kill the fish because it seemed like an OBVIOUSLY BAD IDEA. Which [spoiler alert] it was.
The level of detail and the fact that we can pick the traits of our character are enough to keep us reading but this goes beyond that. We wanted more and more as we kept reading! Looking forward to Toshio getting to the main character's heart amongst other things. "A book we could not put down ".

Really well-written, great character development, very interesting world building. The cliffhanger at the end was a bit of a bummer but it is understandable since this seems to be a complex, lengthy story which will continue in other apps. We fully recommend this story.

This story is just great plain and simple. We can honestly say this is the best interactive story series we've ever read. We recommend it to anyone who likes choose your own adventure type books.
We're deeply into this story. We can imagine everything clearly. One suggestion: insert pictures into the story a little. For people who want to use imagination only, let there be an option to turn pictures on and off. That would be so cool for us, as we also want to see the characters from the author's point of view.

We really enjoyed this story, really liked the characters, choices, etc. We're disappointed that we paid $4 to have the rest of the novel, only for the story to not come to a resolution. The second book is out but it also costs money. We just really expected more.

We want to say how awesome this game is. The story is fantastic and the writing is great. Yes it is a bit linear but it has many choices and high replay value. Worth every penny. Anyone who is a fan of interactive fiction should definitely try this one out. Can't wait for the sequels.
We rarely ever do in-app purchases, but this story definitely had us hooked. We may have screamed a little too loud when we got to the ending. Such a cliffhanger! T-T It has a lot of potential, we think, excluding the occasional awkward phrasing/grammar, so we're really hoping the next part(s) come out soon.

We put quotations because we've always considered these games as really fun books. Nonetheless, we really enjoyed this game and many others like it. We hope there are many more to come.
We are totally loving this. We have never played this type of game before. We are currently obsessing over Rurouni Kenshin, but there is no game specific to that, so we searched samurai games instead and found this. Funny thing is, there are certain characters who remind us of… Anyway, we've played through twice now, creating two different characters each time. We're slightly frustrated with being told we're not attuning right with certain decisions which we think fit. Then there are certain references which we just don't understand. Also, we WANTED to create a completely brutal character just to see how it played out, but it still kind of leads you back to being at least semi-good (and if you let your character follow his/her sensei's training, you have "forgotten yourself." Bah humbug. Anyway, at least one reviewer commented on technical difficulties. We have had no problems playing on an iPad 2 mini. To the potential buyers out there, enjoy. To the developer(s), please add more to the story!!! (And consider hiring a proofreader…we volunteer.) ;-).
