Community Insight:
Dont listen to all the bad reviews if you have it setup properly. And dont complain about it not working on your pc or through the internet. All this app is, is a client for a sunshine host.
Been using Sunshine/Moonlight combination for the last year or so. It adds a ton of value to the Apple Vision Pro. Would really love to see support for Bluetooth Mouse Capture.
Insanely good streaming. Works out of the box. With a little love you can do a lot with the software.
Really awesome to be able to play any game we want and have on from our PC. Just need a better internet connection that has the upload speeds to maximize it, but so far around the house Im able to max everything out without issue. Maybe if H265 is rolled out in the app we might be able to use slightly higher settings, but Im content with it the way it is as well.
Works much better than steam link.
This app doesnt throw any ads at you and costs nothing. It lets us turn our computer on and then control it and play games on it from our other device like a phone/tablet. Its great to make our computer game more portable so we can play it on the couch. People have said they wish the controller controls can be more configurable, but we havent played with a controller so far. We use an ipad, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and Im grateful it plays so smoothly there.
Sent from the heavens. This software is fantastic. Its open-source. Everything about this project is perfect. The team is awesome. What is there to complain about? We have no complaints. We would give Moonlight an invite amount of stars if we could. Its great.
We've been using this for years and it's only gotten better and better — we have no idea why other similar apps like Steam Link suffer from significant latency issues while Moonlight is almost always perfectly smooth with extremely little lag. The one issue we noted with the new iPad Pro Magic Keyboard case that launched today is it looks like the trackpad cursor no longer moves the cursor on the remote PC; this worked perfectly on the previous iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard case, but it doesn't seem to work on the new one. Two finger scrolling works, but we can't move the cursor.
A very stable software, using it we dont get much issues or much latency. It will very by use case tho Im only using our local network to stream our pc. Both our Apple TV and pc are hard wired we typically try to avoid WiFi whenever we can. Using it on our iPad tho we have no issues with it on WiFi on our local network. Our own system is the eero mesh network but we have also Ethernet ports around our home that are linked directly to our eero to do backhaul to the points. So far so good we havent tested out 4k 120 yet cause we dont really have a streaming device that can output that. But we will give a update if we do.
This app works better in terms of reliability and visual fidelity in comparison to the steam app. We have had a great experience getting this setup and running on our Vision Pro.
When the iPad is using an external display, the external monitor (4K) can display the desktop, browser, and videos in full screen. However, Moonlight can only display in the center portion of the external monitor and cannot be displayed in full screen.
This App causes audio to duck across your entire Vision Pro when open, reducing all other volume by ~50%. Changing other windows to be the active window has no effect, and other apps with audio do not do this (for example, Jump RDP.) we would have expected that feature to disable when toggling off the Audio from PC on Settings, but the ducking remains active whenever the app is open and we cannot find a way to disable it. Otherwise, this does everything you need though.
Im sure it works, but no point when Steam link is immediately plug and play. This requires a bunch of fiddling to get it to work. Props for being on all platforms though.
We are very impressed with the technical side of this but the mobile controls definitely need work.
Seems like its so close to working, but input only registers during menu interfaces, and as soon as the actual game starts we cant look around, move around, or do anything else. Its unfortunate, because it seems to connect just fine, find steam, and manages to receive controller input, but only well enough to navigate menus. Hoping that this will eventually be fixed.
Not being able to move the gamepad controls can be annoying, there are many games that being able to move the buttons for would make a lot more playable on the phone. Also almost any game that has sprint on L3 makes it impossible to sprint since you have to let go of the joystick to double tap the stick. Double tapping the stick while not moving does not allow sprinting.
Doesnt matter what troubleshooting methods we use, it just cant find our PC for its life. Moonlight used to work and used it on our old pc and worked fine. Stopped using it for a long time and got a new pc and just doesnt work. The app doesnt really do anything to help you with its issues and gives the same error.
Seems like the iOS client barely has any features. Cant move around in game at all, or use the keyboard for shortcuts or typing. There is no support for switching displays or scrolling either.
Ive used moonlight for years now. The ability to play at up to 4k144hz anywhere at anytime with minimal latency has always been a necessity for us. Being able to stream to any device be it a laptop, pc, phone, console, handheld or tablet is awesome. Also the ability to use the Apple Pencil on iPad and Samsung S-Pen (Galaxy Note, S series flagships and tablets) to do art is awesome. But heres the massive dealbreaker. We love this app and its the best of its type. Ive used the android app on the S24 Ultra and it is near perfect. But the iOS app is horrible. We cant change the layout of the on-screen controls, which is a big issue, we also cant use AV1 decoding and dont have nearly as many options as the Android app. Moonlight itself is wonderful but the IOS app has really dissappointed us. Especially because our phone is an iPhone.
This app works well and does as advertised however we did have a minor hiccup getting the link setup with sunshine as our other devices worked without the need for port forwarding but after we set that up it worked great we would however like if we could connect on other networks and not just over lan since we have the ports forwarded.
You can literally play your games from anywhere. Almost zero latency if done over lan in your own home.
Ive been using Moonlight for several years now to link to our iPad from our home PC. We are away a lot and also use ZeroTier configuration along with this to be able to remote access from ANYWHERE. Overall it works great except for ONE thing, hence the 4 stars. We still will have intermittent connection drops no matter how strong a wifi we are on. We did extensive testing and even tried with an Android device and the Android never once dropped connection when using from a remote location away from home. Thats not the case with iOS. For some reason it only has the issue away from home. After a few min of use will drop randomly every couple min. So please, to developers in charge, PLEASE continue to update and fix intermittent connection drop issues (random error code 49 or 65 usually) Also if theres a way you can update for added support on iPad 12.9 for full screen, we dont mind it but would be nice to customize the screen so theres not black on top and bottom portion when using. We absolutely love this app and will continue to support.
Touch screen games cannot be played normally with two fingers. The experience of zooming the screen is very uncomfortable. We hope to add a switch to control it manually. The multi-touch experience is not good.
But we gave it a bad rating on iOS due to the artificial limitation of only being able to be used on a local network. Completely unnecessary. And that's how strongly we feel about artificial limitations like that. Especially ones that severely hamper the usefulness of the application. Other versions of Moonlight do not suffer from these limitations. And they now have it working great on every platform. We know they are workarounds but most of them are cumbersome at best and downright impractical, depending on the situation. Really guys, this is a phone app. The reason a phone app would be incredibly useful is because you can take it with you. We couldn't give it one star because the app functions as it's designed. Unfortunately, that design carries artificial limitations.
App has been working well for the longest until last update with sunshine. Other moonlight clients are able to find pc but not the ipad for some reason since last update. No way to add ip address manually on ios as well edit: reinstalled nightly release sunshine on PC and is fixed.
Now some games have a mobile UI, which is suitable for multi-touch, and truly incarnate cloud games.
We love this app! We have the desktop one too and its so great for using Yuzu and overall other things like accessing our desktop remotely. We love love loveee it and cannot thank the developers enough for making this free.
Great app! We would love to see proper external screen support like the PS Remote Play or Steam Link apps. Especially now that we have stage manager on iPad and the iPhone has native USBC video out.
We like it but we dont have a pc we wish moonlight didnt have to use pc area code.
Great App, we have used it for years on all platforms and continues to impress. Great work guys keep it up with Sunshine.
We have used moonlight extensively on multiple devices because its more convenient than hauling consoles and computers around. However the iOS version has crackling audio when using Bluetooth devices. We want to report the issue to the developer but we dont know how.
This works greatly but smoothing needs to be improved a bit as you can really notice it. Its like its running at 30fps even tho its set to 120fps. We have top of the line specs so we know. However, it works great.
Used to work when game stream was being used but now with sunshine we cant wake from Lan on IOS on same network or data. Steamdeck on the same network has no problem waking our computer using moonlight.
Great app but no home button/xbox button/ps button. And also no clickable joystick.
In touch screen mode, this app only gives you the basic mouse click functionality. This is 2023, please, multitouch input is a very helpful feature, missing it would be bad.
When we stream our desktop to the ipad 12.9 inches it leave 1 black bar and 1 black bar on the bottom and top about 1.5 inches a total of 3 inches that it would be great if we could use that space so our screen can be fuller.
For some reason the only button that doesnt work when we use our PC through Moonlight is the Tab key. This is a very important key in lots of video games so we would love to find a resolution. Thanks.
Its a great idea, works really fast. But HDR is currently broken on most devices including MacBook and Apple TV 4K.
We want a update where we can play without a PC and theres a list of games and you can search the game. You dont need a PC at all.
Using ZeroTier or tail scale, we receive a handshake error, works fine on MacBook.
Cant get it to work with backbone. Touchscreen works but thats all.
Ori is not exactly a super demanding game, and we have a high end PC that we were testing right in the same room along with the router and a great connection. It repeatedly just stutters, then times out and closes the session. So far the app has done nothing but waste our time. Im trying Steams streaming option next.
Love the performance, but options seem limited on ios. Please add support for fitting display to screen, and for ios/ipad docked mode for app to go full screen on wide monitors.
Every first party solution from Nvidia is awful in comparison to this app.
GFE is going bye bye Steam link is never going to be any good. Esp with big picture essentially hijacking your pc Pair ML up with the new GFE replacement Sunshine and youre good. Desktop mode and good controller support, unlike the others. Also does NOT crash Vulkan API games like the others. And HDR is almost done.
This is a really great app. It is essential if you are interested in cloud gaming. You can set this up with a front end like big box from launch box and Steam link and it works amazing. The only frustrations we have are related to Nvdiaa streaming service which messed up resolution.
Works incredibly well on all devices! We love playing GTA5 on our Apple TV in 4k. The best solution for remote gaming.
This app works amazingly! Unfortunately, its currently utilizing the Gamesteam protocol, which NVIDIA announced theyre ending support for next month. This app may or may not stop working then without a workaround. Luckily, it looks like an open-source replacement is being developed, which is great news! We wanted to write a review now to head off all the 1-star-doesnt-work reviews that are inevitably coming in the near future Keep up the great work, devs.
The function part of this app is really great but the UI is really ugly. It would be great to re-design the UI with swiftUI.
