This would be an awesome game for pre-teens.
We have played this game many times and enjoy it every time. Don't let bad reviews stop you from playing. Some of the best games we have played were older on sale games that should have never been higher on the star scale. Remember that ratings are just opinions of others just like ourselves.
We only play occasionally because it is hard to find good games that have the combination of good story…light…good mini games…not easy not hard…and some different ones!! Good content! Great thing to do home with the flu!!! Keep them coming.

We really appreciate how creative the game is. We knocked it down from a 5 because there are a couple of glitches, but this is one of our all time favorite Big Fish games now.

This game is complex and fun. It is not easy and not at all buggy. We loved it.
What a delightful game, no evil stuff! Beautiful graphics, enjoyable back ground music, fantastic mini games, so interactive. We love this game.
Play the trial and make up your own mind! Everything was good, story, HOS, graphics, etc. We mean, are we all playing the same game?? Usually reviews are not this divided. We had no glitches or crashes. The HOS are quite varied and interactive. Puzzles are not too simple like some of the more recent offerings, but they're not complex either. We would prefer more complex. You collect runes that trigger a mini-HOS and give a bit of the back story. There are morphing Christmas-themed collectibles. If you miss any you can get them at the end. The main game was long, bonus about average. Our real rating is 4.5 bumped up to 5.
Don't know why it got a bad rap. Nice length, interesting story, unique hops and puzzles. The bonus game was a little short. We liked it.
We totally agree with Kim that this game is vastly underrated. Personally, this is one of our favorite new releases from Big Fish. The plot line was creative, the minigames are novel (with many of the storytelling variety), HOPs are diverse, graphics were beautiful, and we experienced no glitches whatsoever. The map enables teleportation, and difficulty is fully customizable. The only occasional hiccup was the map sometimes showed available actions, where you actually had to perform another action first. After we realized that, we adjusted our gameplay accordingly. And that's another thing gameplay is quite lengthy, and the bonus chapter adds another 1-2 hours. Don't forget to check out the developers wearing Santa hats in one of the extras.
We had no choice but to give it 5 stars. Our 7 year old granddaughter played it and loved it. She demanded us to give it a five star and to please make more for her age. You should do some games for kids. All the other ones lately we could not let her play. Please, she asks, make more for her and other young girls. Might be a good idea to have a more for children.
In the mini game on the part where you give the weight to the weight lifer. It doesnt allow us to give the weight to the man. And theres no way to skip the mini game so Im stuck at this point. Please help. Thanks so much.
This game isnt perfect but what is in life? We liked the story and feel that it is well developed. There are a couple of cut scenes that got stuck and wouldnt finish playing but we were able to exit them and continue playing. There are a couple of strange typos where theres a random & on a word. Otherwise we liked it and feel like it lasted longer than many of these games.
We usually play on hard with no hints, and the HO scenes and mini games were more challenging (and therefore more enjoyable). Some of the objects didnt want to land on their targets easily, which is the reason we didnt give this 5 stars as sometimes it was frustrating. The only other negative is the sail the ship through the obstacles mini game. Thats a whole bunch of crappy coding. Just lose it.
Most games nowadays have around 20-30 unique scene locations. This one had 54….you know, back when these games used to take several hours to get through? This is one of those games… Before big fish got greedy. Didnt have any glitches on our iPad.
If not for a terrible teleport map, which only indicated available actions occasionally and objectives everywhere (so you had to run around constantly), this was a game really amazing game. The graphics were magnificent, the only collectibles were paw prints, there was a plethora of tasks at each location, and you could disenchant the denizens and create spells. The HO scenes had an amazing variety and some were more like puzzles. As far as mini-games and puzzles, they were plentiful and there was something for everyone. This game was extremely lengthy and had a very long bonus adventure as well. We didnt feel that it was dated. We deducted a star for the annoying teleport map and some touch screen sensitivity issues. Happy gaming everyone.

Has anyone had a problem trying to put the seal on the scroll for this HOP? The pixel setting is horrible. We can't get them to connect. This is the one in chapter 3. We think in a cave.
We really enjoyed the game, we thought it was fun. A few glitches but was still able to play. We enjoyed the hidden objects and other gameplay. Completely enjoyable except for the glitches mentioned above. We're glad we purchased and would recommend to a friend.
FIVE-BN has just released a new game: "The Legacy: Forgotten Gates," which is released as both an outright purchase and a version offering a free trial. This game is NOT as terrible as most people are stating. Reviews are subjective, and reviewers will have varying opinions as to what they like or dislike. We did not experience any flaws regarding downloading, crashing, or lagging. Yes, the controls are a little clunky; however, it did not impede our gameplay. The storyline is rehashed and lacks novelty. But the diversity of HOSs; the plethora of entertaining puzzles; a thorough journal to convey the backstory; engaging collectibles (play mini-games with one set); and the inclusion of the expected components, such as custom settings, make up for any shortcomings. Furthermore, there are many tasks to effectuate within the vast amount of scenes; we're getting our money's worth. You can play the free trial and decide for yourself; otherwise, save your money and play FIVE-BN's new one. As a last note, we AM a "real" reviewer; we just have a different opinion this time. Our true rating is 3.5 stars, but the final rating stands at 4 stars.
Okay, best in the world, ever? No. But a perfectly acceptable HO game. The graphics are 100% okay. And in terms of it feeling dated, it's not like it's going back to PAC MAN, it's from 2015, and graphics were still good all the way back then. For reviewers looking for storyline and character development, we're sorry but it's called a book. Read one. These games are not Oscar contenders nor are they meant to be. They're $4. They're played on your phone and iPad. If you want something more involved buy a game console. We understand frustrations with games that are super short or just plain don't work. But the reviews for this one are unnecessarily bitter. If you think you can run BIG FISH, and crank out amazing games twice a week, quit your job and give it a shot. Why are you assuming there's some perfect cloud of perfect games that big fish isn't giving you? They're just a distributor, they don't make them, they don't quality control them, they aren't the boss of the shops who do make them. Take your complaints there, if you're so upset with quality.
Update, its getting better but yesterday was awful. Just spent internet time to download 1.8 GB of horror its not fun, Im stuck on this heart crap, theres no way to bypass it, Its not fun! Big Fish has better games than this crap. What a horrible experience, all it did was piss us off, and cost us money. What a disappointment.
Super quirky. You could put an object in the right place 4 times and it never registers. Sometimes you cant even pick up objects. Hints dont actually help half the time because it leads u to your next placement, not to the object you actually need to gather to put it in that place. This is especially problematic cuz you can be doing all the right things but the game wont let you progress until you repeat the same movement over and over till it actually registers. Annoying when you dont know 100% u were right but cant find anything else to do would not buy again. At least it was on sale.
So we went into this game fully prepared to either love it or hate it, based on the very mixed reviews. And found that we didn't feel all that strongly about it one way or the other. It really is an average 3 star game: there's nothing exciting but nothing broken. The good: long playing time, lots of variety and challenge with minigames and HOPs, fundamentals like teleportating map and labeled inventory and hints are all sound. Morphing objects not too difficult and don't take you out of the story. The not so good: the crystal ball thing is a bit silly and there's not a lot of logic to the story. A few of the HOPs and games have some placement and accuracy things that are frustrating. Some of the games are just too easy easy, but we guess that. An be a good thing. It was an okay way for someone with a summer cold to spend a too hot summer day indoors. Not our favourite and certainly not creative or innovative, but pleasant enough. Not a bad story, a little difficult in finding the rewards. A little slow. Think.
We love games by Big Fish… Some more than others… But overall we love their games… We own about 75% of their games we believe… Sadly we can't play this one yet (or rather we are choosing not to) until an update comes out that fixes the bug where the overall sound is being muted but voiceovers can be heard… We anxiously await their update to fix the problem.
The puzzles are chunky, you have to hit the pieces quite a few times. They should move with our finger. Finally got tired of trying the puzzle and moved on. Very trite game. Come on you guys, you can and have done much better.
Some items wont let us pick them up no matter how many time we tap them e.g. The HOG in the cellar has a box with tiles on the lid. When there were two left to find we tapped repeatedly on one laying on top of what looked like a furled sail on a mast and it wouldnt budge. When we used the hint button it just kept indicating the same tile, but the tile wouldnt move. We deleted and reinstalled the game and lost all our progress. If it happens again we guess Ill just give up and be out the money.
We had high hopes, but they were shattered early on. This game has you jumping all over the place, just to lengthen the game. It also doesn't allow you to pick up items until you need to use them, which is VERY annoying. No logic to the moves. We found ourselves constantly going to the hint, because we had no clue as to what we needed to do. Overall, poorly organized. We'll pass.
…got to the musical notes hog, and the last note is out of frame! Tried multiple ways, but no way to get it. A shame-this would have been 5 stars for us if not for a fatal glitch that would never have survived even a cursory qa.
The map is not helpful; the way the power orb works is not explained well; games are mediocre. The game has potential but it was not an optimum update. We find ourselves becoming impatient & bored. Just doesn't have the polish of a better big fish game.
We own a lot of Big Fish Games, this is the first one that takes forever to load, crashes and for example: our game locked up at the beginning and we can not get the three hearts to proceed. The strategy guide is no help, just directs us vaguely to a flower that doesn't permit us to collect the third heart. Chalking this one up as a loss. Gave it two stars because the graphics to that point look pretty good….pity we can't play.
We did enjoy some of this game. We would have given it 3 stars if it hadn't suddenly frozen up on us in the last part. There was nothing we could do! The story was a mish -mash of stuff, not logical, yet not fantasy either. It was just hard to follow and we suspect not much attention was paid to developing it. Plus, we are not a fan of "cardboard cutout" games. A lot of the games were just paper. That said, it seemed like a lengthy game and the HOPs were okay. In general, not up to par.
Bamboo piece disappeared after we got it. Hint function stopped working so we cant do anything. Very unhappy. Id like a refund.
We are now stuck because the hint stopped working and the bamboo piece disappeared after we picked it up. So we have deleted it. We would like our money back but we dont see any responses to anyone in the last 3 years, or am we mistaken? Anyone out there.
The game is cute but very buggy. We're stuck in one of the rune puzzles, won't let us select anything or pick the item up no matter how many time we click on it. Very frustrating. Can't continue with the game now.
We are actually stuck and there is NO way to make another move or use the stupid hint button. What happened? Im missing the third heart for that stupid clover and tiara that Ive been carrying around with us since the beginning. We have NO idea where the third piece is and cant do anything about it because we can only back track so far and click on so many things. Did we step into a hole called a big mistake ?! We are so mad that we spent all this time and we spent money to just get stuck towards the end with a STUPID USELESS INCOMPLETE CLOVER AND TIARA! Dont tell us that we have to figure something out because we CANNOT. We literally cant click on anything and the HINT BUTTON DOES NOT WORK.

Took forever to open and then we couldnt even type in our player name. Glad we didnt purchase it before trying it.
Not far in, we couldnt get any further. The first character who needs his heart thawed, and we cant complete the puzzle that achieves that because of a glitch. Hint doesnt work either. We have played tons of these kinds of games, and this is the first one we had to give up on.
The game is great if it works.hints stopped working half way through. Only way to fix it seems to be to reinstall which means starting over. Glad it was on sale cheap.

So slow and unresponsive that we don't know if we'll buy it.
We downloaded and tried to play the trial three times and due to glitches and freeze-ups could not really evaluate the story. Chose to stop trying. Using IPad Air 2 IOS Ver 10.3.2.
Skip and hint buttons don't work!! What's up with that? For the price you'd think you'd have glitches fixed.
