Obviously you play as a democratic president but that doesnt mean your have to draft policy like one. You have freedom to experiment in many ways all while enjoying poignant social commentary paired with sharp wit and a rich sense of humor. Ive played this game many many times but the most interesting ones are one where you either play like a far-right dictator or the iconic president that never was.
We wish we have a president that favored the people.

As a leftie, we genuinely love this game so much its unreal. All of the jokes and jabs at the right are hilarious, and this game honestly taught us a lot of new terms when we were a baby leftist. Now that theres a sequel, we cant wait to play it.
We love this game! Whenever Im stressed about the state of electoral politics, Ill just open this app and win two terms as the nations first Socialist President. Its a welcome placebo when we see so many people acting against their best interests every Election Day. Thank you.
This is a delight and educational. Every child should have this on their devices and every adult who supports liberty & justice for all will have fun and learn more about politics and dream the United States might catch up with the civilised and developed world. It doesnt have to stay a dream.

Every time we implemented policies that benefitted ordinary people, the military removed us from office to protect American democracy. We are now convinced of the failings of the bourgeois democratic system, and am now an avowed Marxist-Leninist. 9/10, maybe couldve used some more seasoning.
Ive seen a lot of reviews on here saying its liberal propaganda.First off this does not align with any liberal ideology.And if your next defense that its biased, thats the point.Its a simulator trying to achieve socialism.The options are going to try to help you?Overall a general review of the game, its a pretty simple for newbie leftists.Its a good start but we recommend more radical media then this.
Cute art style. Tons of fun. We were able to learn a little bit about personal politics, and was tickled to discover that when we enacted all the policies we thought where good, we ended up being assassinated. We love this game. So many different ways to take it. And we are OBSESSED with this art style.
Should be required daily play for anyone running for potus.

The music and the art is great, the dialogue is entertaining, and the gameplay is fun.
This games is great we love it we wish it would pace out longer and record presidency terms to review how long and compare your terms with previous attempts that would be our only suggestion with the addition of maybe asking for a name before you start your first term so you can also use that as a statistical identifier to compare each term youve had over the time played. Also maybe a share button of your stats and more in-depth of how you did and how it affected the next election. The game reminds us of reigns in so many ways. Even with all that being said and suggestions we love this game and play often looking for new combinations to have as close to a socialist but near communist utopia :).
Ill send you guys money to update this game and add more stuff we love this game we play it everyweek it could be so much better maybe even add a republican option to become President please respond.
It helps us understand the reasons behind the decisions that politicians make. We also get to learn new political concepts that we never bothered to learn about.
To the people giving it one star because theyre conservative: learn how to read. It literally says in the description the player is the first SOCIALIST president of the US.
We were worried it would go a bit overboard with the socialist options (even though im a socialist ourselves) but it offers a variety of political options to produce a wide variety of outcomes to the simulation that are always fun to play through! We love learning about issues that the US is tackling as we speak, and potential hypothetical solutions. 10/10.
We have never left a review before but they referenced los campesinos so we felt obligated.
Few games manage to accurately portray politics in such a manner while still keeping things simple enough for anybody to play. Its the biggest what if scenario that can be played over and over without exhaustion. Finding proper balances between meeting your goals and ensuring you dont spend too much, all while attempting to maintain your electorate makes for some serious entertainment. On top of that, the steampunk animal theme that comes with it provides equally as much enjoyment as you determine how to keep the nation from tearing itself apart. The only criticism we would add is the completely irregular cycle in which events come can make it very hard to hold a sense of direction midway through each game. Overall very well done though.
Such a great game! While much of it is rooted in satire with playful jargon, we really appreciated their touching on issues 100% relevant. While it was only a game it forced us to think about a bunch of different issues. Thanks.
As a fellow Leftist, we deeply enjoy this game. Sure, it is focused on a very improbable reality, but a fantasy can still blossom a sense of pride for most. Unfortunately, what is applied here is considered radical in our American political climate when it should be fundamental, but we wont dive into that element deeply for the sake of brevity. We do, on the other hand, think that some improvement can be made. Firstly, we would pay to see what it would be like to get to play for longer than two terms. We cant just let FDR be the only one, right? Another thing, we think that the music could be a bit more original. We love it and we totally get it, the music has a background, it fits to the theme, but we think something new can get our minds off the past and on to a better future. A future of reform. But, otherwise, its a nice use of the chorus of Solidarity Forever and the tune to The Internationale. Overall, it the best-ish game of its type (up next to Reigns). We must embrace communism.
This is the game that led us down the path to strategy games. While not perfect, it is still a enjoyable game and an introduction to civil strategy. Please update, maybe create a 2020 simulator with the pandemic and such.
This is pretty funny. All the answers are designed to make you look bad and overall the best word to describe it is satire. If your looking for a game laugh at this is definitely the one. For all those people saying propaganda, yeah. It is. Doesnt mean you have to agree with it.

Some people here dont understand the difference between fun and unbiased. The developer never even pretended to be unbiased. If the game consisted of nothing but Venezuela-style hyperinflation it wouldnt be very fun, yet the mere possibility of an economically successful socialism constitutes bias? That is what we call poor media analysis.

This game is definitely a hidden gem. We enjoy playing this game, the art style is amazing and the idea is great. We do get a little board after playing but other wise its an amazing game. Would definitely recommend it.
We enjoyed it. Not sure we would play it more than a few times because each round takes quite a bit, but its a silly way to reduce politics into dating app swiping mechanics. Anyone taking issue with the liberal slant is missing the entire point of the title and game, but we will say we won with a conservative approach ;).

When Solidarity Forever plays the machine voice is kind of too loud and off putting compared to the rest of the music.
Dont let the S word in the title scare you! DSS is a wonderful little game that is highly replayable. It is a political game, to be sure, but its message isnt heavy handed and has a fun satirical vibe. Give it a try, have an open mind, and have fun.
Idk what you expected from a game called democratic socialism simulator. You got exactly what was said on the packaging, why are you complaining.
We loved this! We laughed, we smirked, we chuckled, we were concerned, we were happy, and we were re-elected! Must play it. Keep an open mind and enjoy the nicely made game. Loved the double meaning behind the characters. Shout out to kicking out the wolf from immigration advising.
We feel like this games purpose is to prove that democratic socialism does not work. We tried everything we could to stay in power and balance the budget but it is very difficult and the reality in the United States government. The farthest we have made it was to the second midterm after our reelection.
It is definitely one of the weirder games Ive played, but still had fun playing. We basically told the defense industry to shove it while promoting healthcare for all, free education, etc and was overthrown by the military.
Had a blast playing this game while also learning about important policy! Ignore the people saying this is propaganda, the game lays out policies that the left has been pushing for years and makes it clear that not all of them can be reasonably achieved. Its a lesson of compromise and multi-faceted solutions. 10/10 love the fun art style and music too! Would love to see some achievements highlighting the different endings you can get :).
We love this game! Our one suggestion is that you allow players to turn off all sound effects. Thats its one flaw.

Its a good game but the issue is that it promotes a space for a dystopian future. Actually it shows how many ways this kind of government could fail so. 5 stars.

This app does a great job of simulating the challenges left wing candidates face and the many ways to tackle them. No route is perfect. There are realistic costs. Users can choose their own goals. Cool idea. Surprisingly difficult.

We had a ton of fun with this the first go around. The headlines from the various satirical news outlets are the funniest part.
As a young socialist, we absolutely love this game. However, maybe add more things that can happen? Ive been playing this game enough to know that its the same events just shuffled around. Maybe add events that will only happen in 1/10 simulations, such as mass riots across the country, a nationwide drought, or just something to make it less repetitive.
