Community Insight:
Normally Im not inclined to write reviews for apps but we had to say how great this game is. The developer obviously put a lot of work into making this game as user/beginner accessible and it really helps for learning this specific Mahjong ruleset. Favorite part is the ability to flip the table and everything rag dolls. Great touch.
Fantastic client for riichi mahjong. We wish the camera zoom had an option to hold the zoom in place with a reset button.
We have downloaded this game multiple times because it has glitches. We had high games between 8 and 9 million points. But since then the game times out right around 4 million points. The keys stop working and a screen pops up that says couldnt load the saved game and Oh no! The save file did not contain a valid mahjong game. Try starting a new game instead. We dont want to keep starting over! Kinda lousy.
The computer players have a good level of challenge, the tutorial is well-written, the online multiplayer doesnt have any active games yet but as the app becomes more popular that will change.
We were introduced to mahjong through the Yakuza games, and have been hooked since. Our only complaint is that they dont have the markers for Riichi after its been called by anyone, but other than that, its an absolute comfort game with a bit of risk and a lot of complexity that anyone into intuitive gambling games could appreciate.
Its a bit jank. Too much focus on silly things like table flipping and not enough on UX. Our biggest issue is its too hard to see tiles, they are too small on the screen and when you zoom, it doesnt stay zoomed in. Permanent camera control would improve our rating significantly. We do like some things like how setup is shown, double tap to select tile, and the transparent scoring. Ups and downs, we bet this could rival PC/web clients if it it was a bit more focused on usability.
We found Richii Mahjong from Akagi. This app is how we learned the game while also getting to understand the hype of Akagi! We have had this app for over two years now and the fact the dev is still updating ever now then is great aslo. Online play is great if you get some friends to play; otherwise not really anyone there. TLDR: Great for learning the game and offline play. Online; you better have friends or people to play other wise no one as of yet.
Great app, but had problems declaring hands furiten (ex: discarding 6 bamboo early then eventually collecting 7 and 8 and being unable to ron on 9 bamboo despite riichi), as well as not counting a 13 orphans hand as tenpai when only needing a white dragon (with one left not show , not even a dead hand that would be tenpai but unwinnable).
This is NOT the matching game but actually the true card-like game. Very user friendly! Rules vary slightly from how we played the game with tiles but still very fun and efficiently moves for the three opponents. Chris.
No annoying ads, just so fun. You can play forever. We love the game.
Developed in Unity at the splash is always a sign of quality! Im kidding, but the app does a solid job introducing the gameplay and rules of Riichi (Japanese-style) Mahjong. We would recommend iPad only, its really hard to even see your whole hand on a phone. Doesnt harass with ads or other money-grubbing, which is nice.
We have played tons of Mahjong game and real in our 51 years and Wow, this one is it. Get one today. Mahalo and Aloha.
We spent a good few years trying to learn mahjong online, and this is the best so far. We used to have another mahjong game we used to play and pay for (single time) on iOS until they removed it from store. We got a new phone so needed a new app on mahjong. This game actually teaches you how to play, we already had a good grasp of the rules after trial and error (such as when other game wont let you use a move that is not allow) but still was not clear on fruiten, or chombo moves. The game will penalize you if you try doing it. Other games wont! Learn from mistakes! Best way!! We guess if we had to nitpick, it will be game sound, but we enjoy it.
Im so glad we found this game online as we really miss our monthly mahjong with friends! When playing with a friend in private however the game keeps kicking us out or quitting on us which is beyond frustrating! We hope that gets fixed and also we hope it will be possible to play with four of us privately instead of the AI . Also we use to play all four winds through ! Id gladly pay for this ap if those problems are resolved. Fun game regardless, thank you.
Ive played dozens of times in Japan but this was the first app that helped us learn some of the things that had always been lost in translation because as you probably know much of the words are Chinese, even in Japan, so they have a hard time explaining why they score things the way they do. Anyway, just about our favorite app ever.
This game has everything. The models are well made, awesome animations, table flipping, a sleezy 90s esque sound track. Its everything we couldve asked for a mobile Japanese Style Mahjong game.
