What Makes Grim Quest – Old School RPG Stand Out
Grim Quest blends tabletop RPG vibes, familiar dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics, and a classic turn-based combat system into an accessible and entertaining package. Because of its attention to written storytelling, detailed worldbuilding and abundance of lore, Grim Quest can be similar to a solo Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or even a choose your own adventure book.
Grim Quest is a single player game and can be played offline. Community Insight:
Reminds us of games when we were younger. This does a good job at creating intrigue and doesnt feel like youre just grinding for gold. You have a limited carrying capacity and the gold isnt bountiful so you have to choose judiciously. Fun game to play on our iPAD when Im not wanting a full 5 hour Steam session.
There isnt really any flaws that we can think of and Ive played this game on and off for 5 years now. Great lore with an interesting story that asks questions about human nature wont specify so as not to spoil it. Weapon upgrades, bounties. But where this game really shines is in the build making. Do you want to be a sharpshooter with a rifle go for it. A valiant warrior with unparalleled swordsmanship you can do that. A magician who dabbles in the dark arts to fight the dark yep. A spellsword who imbues their weapon with powerful magic thats possible. A sneaky and dodgy thief who specializes in hitting weak points sure. Theres so much variety and depth to this game that it can easily keep you entertained for hours on end and if you finally do everything there is to do you can start over from the beginning and play the entire game again.
Easy to understand easy to play not too hard but challenging at the same time.
This is a very well built game with unique and interesting character building options outside of normal class based RPGs. We also enjoyed the wide variety of enemies and events that make each dungeon run unique. We must have missed something, since unlike what negative reviews seem to complain about, we have the whole world at our disposal, no payment required. Id highly recommend this to experienced RPG enjoyers or skilled new comers.

Its addicting and we might want turn this into a DnD campaign. We think it be more fun that way.

RPG, 2 bit graphics, turn based. Most of which we despise. BUT we Love the game. The story line is decent, multiple options, challenging but simplistic. We cant wait to see the rest of map. Good job on this seemingly easy but surprisingly complex game.
Cant play because it forces adds that dont allow you to close even after the 30 seconds. Shouldnt have adds for a pay app.

This plays like some of the games we loved back in the days of our old 486, but with a much better interface. Simple, but solid.
Game is frickin gas out of literally nowhere, this is worth every penny ten times over.
This game brings us back to the days when traditional dungeons and dragons games were great! Truly a masterpiece.
Really fun game to just chill and kill time. The simple mechanics make it easy to pick up and learn on the go. We do wish there was a bit more variety in terms of creating your own weapons or maybe an interaction in the tavern with Npc's, but overall it's an easy to learn simple game, the character selection and abilities are really cool! 4/5 for entertainment with just a limited weapon option.
We would avoid doing forced adds we feel like that would make people not enjoy your game. . . We do understand you need to make some money for this however this is better alternatives like. . . The chest for gold after a dungeon run. . . Could use that in a better way.

Ive been playing this game on and off for almost 4 years now. Its a simple and fun game. Ive bought the add remover and we would say its definitely worth it if you plan to continue playing it. If youre reading this we would also suggest playing their newer games as well. Theyve only learned from any mistakes theyve made and improved on what was already great about the game.
What can we say? We looked at the description, it sounded incredibly appealing, and it was everything we thought it would be.

Im a first time player, Im already so op that we killed every mobs and boss the same way. Its so boring, please make the default mode more interesting.
We fell in love with this game a second time! We loved the demo version we played almost a year ago, and we loved it and now with the full release we are struck again with the amazingly grueling gameplay and hard grind for progress 9/10.

We had accidentally skipped the tutorial and didnt have a option to re start or a book guide in-game in case someone gets lot.

When we saw Grim Tides we enjoy the story and gameplay, this game is awesome and we like the old school feel that gone into the gameplay, we look forward to seeing more games like grim tides by this Author and game developer.
It sells the mood of grimdark very well in our opinion, even with a limit amount of actual visual depictions. The combat is easy to understand and adapt to, and we can truly say it earns the 5 dollars to unlock the full game.
Very addicting game. Only complaint and this is minor, is the cost of the packages (mage, warrior, etc). If they were a little cheaper we would buy them. But regardless we would recommend playing.
This game is worth the $5. We love it.
Download it, pay the five bucks for the full thing, its a great time. Also the soundtrack is so beautiful and we wasnt expecting it, we played the sequel first so we wasnt ready for the number of songs in this one.

Played this game for a few years on and off now, pretty good we would say. Good spin on it, and its possible to increase the difficulty if you find it too easy. The option to buy some in-app purchases are a little pricey, but gives you the chance to try any build (emphasis on pricey tho). Only irk is that melee build is near impossible to play effectively due to limitations melee spells give (wasted turns to apply damage buffs while taking damage). If this is buffed in some way then melee could be more viable in a future update.

We dont ever leave a review but we feel like this game should get one. Firstly we have been looking for a game like this for a long time, it reminds us of shilla. However, there is a mechanic that just need removed. The supplies mechanic. You dont have enough inventory to be able to keep supplies and health items and loot. And before you mention the perk that allows you to not worry about it, yeah we are wasting a perk on it, it is that bad of a mechanic. Get rid of it and Ill purchase the game with upgrades.
A no-frills dungeon delver that used basic grid exploration and simple icons to represent surprisingly deep and balanced skill, equipment, crafting, and city management systems. Id still go through the brief tutorial but everything is pretty self explanatory.
We bought the full game before hitting a paywall so we have no idea what we unlocked we hope we can do everything.
Quick and easy. Its turn base helps when you are busy doing other things. Fun to get into and keeps you interested in looting the dungeon.
This is our favorite game in the APP Store. We had been looking for an old school RPG and this one delivers. Whats more, its our favorite type, TTRPG. We like the fact that each initial location on the initial map screen is a campaign which builds to serve to pave the way for an overarching campaign. The developer streamlined the combat sequences so that clunky dice rolls are nonexistent, but the concept of XP, spells, weapons, skills, and armor upgrades are there. The game tracks all this for you and all you have to do is play the role of an involved PC in order to do well at the game. The APP store is riddled with TTRPG and RPG companions. This game is different because Grim Quest – Old School RPG does not require you to go out and purchase an expensive TTRPG from the store. All of the necessary components are within the APP itself. To the developer: Please continue to keep Grim Quest – Old School RPG updated for IOS. IPhone users have lost access to all the other great TTRPG titles throughout the last decade. Some notable mentions are Call of Cthulhu Chronicles, Necronomicon, and Call of Cthulhu- Wasted Land. Love the old school dungeon crawl feel and look of Grim Quest – Old School RPG. Monomyth is kicking it old school and keeping it real. Monomyth is LEGIT.
We are a big RPG fan and was skeptical about playing this at first because of others that we had played that were supposed to be similar. But this was wonderfully made and you should give yourself props.
A great game well presented. Very playable and better yet re-playable. We wish there were more games like this.
