What Makes Masters of Madness Incremental Stand Out

MoM is a cultist simulator in the idle clicker genre created by two indie game designers who love pixel art and the dark fantasy world of H.P. Lovecraft. Take on the role of a devoted acolyte, seeking to awaken Cthulhu in his ruined temple. Tap to gather souls or summon eldritch horrors to do it for you. Your cultists and minions ensure that both tapping and automation remain powerful as you grow incrementally.

As indie developers, we believe in a fair, ad-free experience. All ads in MoM are optional and everything can be earned just by playing. No paywalls, just pure strategic gameplay.

We've spent years refining Masters of Madness Incremental to create a deep and rewarding experience:

◆ Draw occult sigils to unleash powerful bonuses
◆ Collect artifacts that unlock unique abilities
◆ Decorate your shrine with idols to gain strategic buffs
◆ Master the ascension & transcension system for endless progression
◆ Participate in regular events with special modifiers
◆ Immerse yourself in the atmospheric dark-fantasy world with handcrafted pixel game art

Community Insight:

Love us some incremental games and dark fantasy symbolism. Devs doin some good things here, they put some love into the pixart it's so good!! If you aren't messin with the whole incremental game aspect, assuming you like dark fantasy there's something here for you. Highly recommend.

Quite an engaging game. We havent seen anything outside our 7 walls insome time now. Never felt more free.

We love HP love craft and Cthulhu and our favorite clicker game in the world and we like you developers made a very good thing for us thank you.

Never had a crash or anything weird happen its been perfect. The only problem we could see someone having is the price for the amount of blood doesnt seem right but thats not a big deal.

We enjoy the game and we play it to help wind down and go to sleep, the ambiance and sounds add to that. We know it isnt a huge thing but we would just like to know how to make the audio work again.

Its our personal favorite of what it is, a game you let grow over time and you have to surrender to time, the big boss, in this game. And in that way, we have felt frustrated when we really wanted a game to remain engaged with. It is true that when this game is at the later parts of its cycle, there can be little to do for a while Ive grown to accept it like the seasons, how you play changes depending on where you are when you restart, when you let time work without you and we keep playing. We can hit it for a few seconds in the bathroom, can essentially sweep in and make it feel worth it to keep playing, even without spending much time on it And that makes it fun to return to. Many similar games, if we dont make time for them one day, or for a few days, you miss out on things this one, being more chill but consistent, doesnt make us feel like we blew it when life keeps us from doing our video game daily chores spend a while with it and grind harder or hit and and let it work while you live your life. Ive been playing for a while now. In the end, we love it. Its gratifying.

Quite an enjoyable experience. No ads. Simple progression and fun.

It is a very good game over all, the only thing we would critique is the blood, we think some things should be cheaper, and also there should maybe be a way to earn blood through like quests or some way.

We have this game on Android and have been playing since 2021 and Ive had so much fun with this that we decided to play on our iPad and havent regretted our decision but we were hoping that progress from android could one day be put on iPad and have started the Halloween event and was wondering if the Ghost Sigils could be increased before the event ends.

Update 1: we still play this game every day, but for only a few minutes and the active tapping to blood drop rate is still bonkers. Am we really supposed to tap for hours when tapping produces so few souls its not even perceivable compared to idle? The Halloween event is weird; the reward for hours of focused tapping amounts to less than two dollars worth of blood. Why bother? The motivation of the devs for this games direction is baffling. Original Review: While this game is very good for what it is, ultimately it is not worth your time or money. In 2023 our most played iOS game was Grimoire, an incremental idle clicker type game. We loved it but its text only so we looked for an alternative. This game showed up in the AppStore and the mechanics are very similar. Also Im a sucker for Lovecraft so it was an instant download. After a few days we were hooked so we spent more than $60 to unlock various items as we thought this would be another game we would play every day for a year. But now just a few weeks later Im to the point where progress is so slow without spending a lot more money that its just not worth it anymore. Grimoire was $5 and is much more playable as you will never be stuck behind a progress wall. You will never get past E42 unless you spend more than $100. It doesnt matter if you let the game run idle for a week, you wont get past this point, because this is where you will no longer be earning game currency for reaching milestones. $60 should be enough to enjoy an idle game for more than a few weeks. Maybe Ill come back after a few updates, hopefully devs will make some decisions to keep paying players more interested. UPDATE: we did finally get to E45 but it still takes a week to get there. Another observation is that tapping becomes entirely useless as its effectiveness is orders of magnitude lower than just the simple idle mechanic. We tested this just now by reading a page from the book, getting our Madness to level 4, and using the artifact which quadruples Madness stack effectiveness on tap income there is no perceivable difference to our steady idle income when when tapping as fast as we can. When you get to the mid-game you will never have enough blood points to buy artifacts so you will have to wait for the free one every other day. If you get the Makes Madness 4x better item it basically does nothing. Since tapping becomes useless pretty quick we would suggest increasing the free blood points on tapping rate when using the paid for item which unlocks this ability. Its just not worth tapping for hours a day when it does NOTHING to increase souls collection, just to maybe get a few blood drops. Please devs, make this game we have spent a lot on fun to actually play.

If youre looking for a super simple, slow starting incremental game this may be good for you. We personally enjoy incremental games of all types and this one seems to scratch the itch we have for these types of games. The progression may seem slow at first but its not meant to be to where you can prestige 5 times or more in one day, if youre looking for that go play a game on roblox, this game doesnt have much visuals besides the weather, the torches, and the crows if you so choose to purchase them with the offers you get from playing the game, although lacking in a bunch of visuals it makes up for it with its art style as its kind of got this 8-bit retro style mixed with updated graphics. Im personally a free to play player and havent seen to have needed to bought any boosts from the shop, the progression feels rewarding, especially when you gain multiple levels in your ascending. It starts to speed up over time but dont expect you to play for a week and be level 10 plus ascension unless you wanna spend money, its a slow progressing game and we believe its meant to be that way, youre not forced to pay for in game purchases as free to play allows you to progress, just slightly slower. Out of all things in this game, the only gripe we have is the type of upgrades available at the beginning ascension levels, other than that 5/5.

Dont get why this game needs internet or signal to be played.

Really like the game but we would ask for a few small things. We would love for the Darklight Torches color selection to stay after changing timeline and/or universe, as we do prefer the default fire color. We would also appreciate more consistent notifications for the Occult Shrine, as well as notifications for the Shining Trapezohedron when it is full.

Please do more like this or make a sequel.

Love the game, been playing nearly an entire year. One complaint, the delirium farming system needs a tracker to see how much delirium you have farmed for the next tier of unlocks in the Void. Having to keep track is kind of tedious. Its not that big of a deal, but since the system was introduced we lost over 300k ether simply because the game failed to explain that some unlocks are gated behind delirium that has no tracking except in the Void, that you cant access until you are ready to summon. Other than that, greatest idle game Ive played.

When we first got on the app store today it said open game so we did and it still said maintenance but 30 mins later it said update and we did and now it doesnt crash, thank you to the team that works on this game for fixing the bugs and getting the game running again thank you.

EDIT: Crash bug was fixed in a day or two, so we increased our rating to 4 stars. Comment about the slow progression still stands. The game was good, although some phases of the game get pretty slow. However, after the newest update, 1-2 seconds after the game finishes loading, it always crashes. We tried doing different things within that time, but it never saved and always crashed.

This game is super fun to play and its something we look forward to playing everyday just to check on our stuff, but recently the game has a bug that kicks us out of the app after fully being in it for a few seconds.

Love the game- long time idler. It has been crashing on us a few seconds after opening since yesterdays update. Already uninstalled and reinstalled. Can you assist.

Consistent 100% crash rate upon launch. Main screen draws, offline summary appears, clearing summary or not, game crashes.

This game has a surprising amount of depth and love poured into it. Highly recommend.

The fast tap "anti-cheat" is a little too strong. We are unable to achieve the spiderhands secret and not matter how fast we tap, we cannot get oversurge. This hinders active play. Outside of that, the balance feels old school in terms of pacing. This is a pre leviathan review.

We LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH THANK YOU.

This is our current favorite idle game to play on our phone right now. The complaints about progression isnt entirely wrong. Its pretty slow to start. Even once you get the ball rolling its still slow. Im still early game (pre-leviathan) so maybe it picks up later but honestly we love it this way. Yeah each ascension(summoning cthulu) takes us probably a week to do but once you get to spend those points its worth it. Its a satisfying gameplay loop. We highly suggest this game if you like idle games and want something different. Also the discord is fairly active and you can find a lot of info there as well as the wiki. Definitely use those resources if you can.

If youre like us and have a need to always be fiddling with something this is a fun lovecraftian way to do that, Id frequently take it out and tap while doing other things. While it is slow to start, if you place your perks right youll max out quickly. We unlocked all perks in 9 summons. Now Im not sure what to do with ourselves since theres no further perks.

We enjoy playing these Idle / Clicker games. We are currently enjoying this one to an extent. We would say the biggest single aspect of this particular idle game is the Astral point system. This should be the primary boost / power upgrade that all idle game players are used to. This is your reset all progress to to get xx% more power. This game breaks that functionality behind having to use your souls to unlock a fraction of this power up through your next cycle. We have 14 Astral power (140% boost) but we have to buy upgrades at 10% increment to unlock this power we have accumulated. We are only so far as to be able to unlock 40% of our astral power (5.6 or 56% of our total earned 140%). As frustrating as this is at least it seems intentional. Then there are 2 definite bugs and 1 maybe bug. 1. The ad bonus for the bronze coins only work about 10% of the time., at least for us on the plateaued iPhone and patch. The ad will play and you can tell it is overlaid over the game instead of taking priority as you can hear the game music, sound effects, and vibrations for signal spawning during the ad. We dont know if this why it causes the ad to not allow interactions or not, but the outcome is the same non the less. When the ad finishes we are unable to click the X and receive our ad bonus bronze coin of doubling passive income for 10 minutes. We are forced to hard close the app and restart it. At this point there is approximately a 10% chance we enter the game with the bronze coin actually in effect. UPDATED 2. Offline / Background passive income -IS- (not) generated if we merely have the game in the background. – we tested on Android and iOS. The difference is that iOS only pops up the notification of how much offline income youve made if the app is completely closed. If restoring from the background you catch a brief glimpse of your previous total before your offline income is quickly added in. – (If pushed to the background and you return to it an hour later you have not generated any offline income. We have to make sure the app is completely closed in order for it to generate any offline income while we are not actively playing.) 3. There seems to be bounds , intentional or not, where tapping is not recognized. This could be intentional and requires you to tap the statue and only the statue. Either way this limits when and where you can tap if you are attempting to have the purchase upgrades window open or enlarged and attempting to tap at the same time.

The game could be fun if they completely rework the prestige system. As it stands right now its completely broken and makes the game not really worth playing at all. The reason is that every time you prestige, you gain bonus leveling percentages (like any normal system) but the problem is that you have to unlock the percentages slowly over time. And when you restart you start at 0% no matter what your bonus is. So that means every single time you start at the same slow pace and have to slog through the beginning at a snails pace to unlock the prestige bonuses. EVERY. TIME. Nobody has time for that.

Its fun, basic tapper really, excellent theme.

Love the look of the game and we cant put our phone down, but 4 stars because some instructions can be confusing and some of the descriptions of power ups are too long and cant be read.

Its a lot slower than most other incremental games, likely to boost microtransactions.

Come on devs, you gotta stop lowering bonuses just because you think people are progressing too fast. Its just lazy, instead of actually working to make the game better. Ill just slow them down to make the game take longer.

Whats not to like? Sending the souls of the damned to ancient gods to grant yourself more power, check. Optional ads if we want a boost but not forced every time we click a screen, check. Pixel based art, check. When Im frustrated at work we just send a few souls to their doom. Solid.

Good game! They have abbreviations at the end of the number called: K, M, B, T, q, Q, s, S, o, n, d, U, D, and others that we dont know. We dont know if some number is more than 999.999D it just called: 999 duodecillion and 999 undecillion. Very cool game! We dont know if they have any more abbreviations at the end of the number. The end.

Love the game so far but we do have one complaint when tapping if you slide your finger at all it scrolls the screen over to journal or the sanguinarium while tapping and starts to try to buy things or clicks things you didnt mean to while tapping.

It takes an absurd amount of time to get functional in this game and theres days to weeks of dead time before you even begin unlocking other features, with nothing to do in the interim except check on the game occasionally. The gaps in this game are just too big to ignore and we dont recommend it for anyone looking for an idle game until they release faster progress updates for early game.

We enjoy the app well enough. However, in the last few day, after an ad plays, the in app sounds go back to full. This is a problem, because the apps audio is twice as loud as any podcast or music. We will return to update if this gets fixed.

We like it when the number goes up :).

The visuals and overall atmosphere of this game are great, and it seems clear that there was a lot of care put into them. Early progression is satisfying because of the numerous trophies, but once the rebirth mechanic becomes the main type of progression it slows down too much. Rebirth upgrades are too expensive/ether takes too long to get. Offline earnings can also glitch out and give returns that are way too small. We can come back after 4 hours of offline earnings and find out that we made 300 million souls even if we ordinarily earn 100 million souls per second. 7/10 overall and excited to see whats yet to come.

It has been taking us a few days to a week to get to our next upgrade in the late game. This is pretty slow progress, but we didnt really mind. Its an idle game so a little waiting makes sense. However they just ruined the progression in this last update when they rebalanced progression. When we last looked at the upgrade costs 4 days ago, our next upgrade cost 10 billion ether. Today we went to get our next upgrade and it now costs 335 billion ether. Thats not rebalancing, thats intentionally ruining any chance of progressing at a meaningful pace unless you spend close to $90 to buy an item that increases all soul gain by 5x. They just made it this game absolutely terrible. We had even been willing to spend a few bucks on the game to remove ads early on and thought about spending a little more to just help the devs out, but they just ruined any chance of us even playing their game any more. Dont even bother downloading the game. Just play something else now.

Love the dark mood of the game. Great music and sound effects. Awesome graphics. The Elder Gods would be proud.

Game stuck on the summoning the elder gods screen cant play it any more:(.

Well, this game is really great, its slow but it has a lot of potential so we wanted to give some ideas for Elder blood upgrades One being a type of clothing to wear like how most cultists utilize, like a robe or mask. Another being an upgrade to an upgrade, maybe the binding of the necronomicon for multiple pages and once filled gives off a creepy vibe, but Ill stop for now if you want more ideas dont be afraid to ask Thanks for a great game, Deimos.

Ok, so we had this game, and we got pretty far. But after about two days, it broke our phone entirely, it couldnt turn back on, and when we got a new phone, the game was uninstalled. Dont recommend unless the game is fixed.

The game restarted the next day and we lost all our progress. Stupid.

It seems fun but then it deleted all our progress when we closed the app so thats pretty much a dealbreaker.

Progress is slow, but we keep playing for the atmosphere.

The music is creepy and all and the progression can get slow at times but the vibe is kept the same and the game we would say is well made.

Fun so far. Great visuals and tone make this clicker really stand out.

This game is super fun and has a cool vibe! We are looking forward to more content being added to the game though.

The game is very fun, with great lovecraftian aesthetics. As others have stated, progression can be a slog, but this can be mitigated with the ether progression subsystem. However, we cant give the game our original 4 star review due to a bug, causing our minion and power purchases not to add to our total souls per minute. Having a chunk of offline earnings get flushed due to a bug has made us play less and less the more we encounter it. Hopefully the devs fix this soon, so we can update our review.
