Love to Count (4+) by Pirate Trio is an educational application for the iPhone and iPad, designed for children aged from 4 to 7.
Aimed at introducing maths to your child as an enjoyable and rewarding activity, this app creatively demonstrates the idea of numbers being the indicators of order, time, weight and quantity, enhancing their natural urge to find order in the world of numbers and shapes.
Love to Count by Pirate Trio helps teach and perfect such skills as:
- knowing the sequence of numbers from 1 to 10
- counting up and down
- understanding the relationship between numbers (1,2,3…) and ordinals (first, second, third…)
- adding and subtracting
- making 10
- learning halves, quarters and thirds; recognition of symmetrical division
- recognizing left from right.
Parents are provided with a tracking screen which is helpful for evaluating child’s progress. The logging system allows the app to be used by more than 1 child without loosing their scores and rewards given for correct answers.
Love to Count by Pirate Trio aims to encourage your child to discover and understand maths, rather than learn it by heart. Solving these logical puzzles will play an important part in your child’s development and help build their confidence at this early stage of schooling.
Pirate Trio takes children’s privacy very seriously:
- we do not collect or share any data
- the app doesn’t contain any adds
- the app doesn’t contain any in-app purchase
- the app doesn’t contain any social media buttons nor social media integration
- the app contains external links to our other apps

Can you please update your app so it will work on newer version of iOS.
Our 4-year-old daughter says that this is her favorite app! She loves it and it is educational so we love it too.
This is a great app for teaching 1-10 number sense. It has a pirate storyline and theme. The app features 10 games that are continually recycled in an interesting and engaging way. The games are thoughtfully designed to be ever so slightly increasing in challenge as the number of tasks completed increases from 1-700. There are also prizes to be collected along the way. This is done in a subtle way as to not overpower the game with gaming, but to keep the focus on learning. This app has just the right amount of themes and rewards to be interesting to children, while providing them with great learning opportunities. This is a must have preschool app for teaching 1-10 number concepts.
There is no sound on this app. We’re not sure if this is a glitch or not, since there is a spot to adjust the volume – but it doesn’t do anything. This does not work for the targeted age range whatsoever. How is a young child who doesn’t know how to read supposed to know what the instructions are? We feel totally ripped off.
Our son really enjoys the game, but when he "gets a letter", it freezes up and the game has to be completely shut down and restarted, only to return to the same problem minutes later. Fix please.
Our youngest loves this app for practicing basic kindergarten skills! He keeps asking to play it and loves the pirate theme and prizes. The app doesn’t talk in an overly babyish way but uses a nice strong British voice.
Our 4-year-old son loves this app and is very motivated to learn his numbers.
Both our kids (5 and 8) enjoy this game, even though they’re at very different places math-wise, and the best part is, they just think it’s a fun game that happens to involve some quantitative activities, and don’t feel like they’re practicing math while they play.
Thought this was for 4+, but it’s really for Kindergarten. First few questions asked for subtraction, to know right from left. A bit tough when you haven’t been taught those things yet!
Does not load, multiple emails sent to support with no response.
This app does not work on ipAD 2. Tap to load and it shut off app instantly.
We love this app our 4 yo daughter loves it. And plays with it on our iPad and iPhone. She’s learning and she doesn’t even know she’s learning. We recommended it to many of our friends.
This game has increased our math knowledge and has made us want to learn MORE & MORE!!!!! AMEN!!!
Our almost four year old really enjoys playing this (the "treasures" seem to provide a surprising amount of motivation and we wish the companion apps also had them). We like the variety of numerical concepts presented that get him thinking in different ways. It provides a good level of challenge for him — he can do most of the problems himself but a few require help and really stretch him. Very nicely done.
Our 6 year old loves this app. We use it to practice the math skills he’s learning in kindergarten.
Very easy for our 3yr old. Good for kids starting out maths, numbers.
Love, love, love this app!!! So much variety! Don’t hesitate on this one.
The app is made right for our 6-year old daughter! So much fun playing different math games in a row!
Love the variety and the ability to track progress for multiple users. Can’t wait to try it with our students. We wish the sharing activity included a label with the fraction so that kids were able to see and begin to connect the symbol – such as 1/2- with two equal arts.
We think this is a wonderful app for our child with special needs who is a visual learner. We love that you can touch objects while counting and the object makes a sound when you click on it. Three suggestions we have are to improve the app are to make the touch button for the correct answer a bit more sensitive. When we pressed the correct button it did not always accept the answer. Another suggestion was to add some written instructions on the parts where you move a number of items down to (for instance, make a longer necklace). We were confused at first. We didn’t realize you had to move the object down to the line to make the correct length of object and last, written instruction on the dominoes to let the child know the purpose is matching. If not for these three suggestions, we would have rated the app 5 stars but a terrific app, nonetheless!
Researching apps for first grade student use… This app is definitely a "must have" app for primary learners! It provides a variety of problems for each concept and focuses on a variety of concepts necessary to develop complete "number sense"! The ability to "restate" the question supports listening. The ability to track individual player progress and understanding by concept and e-mail player progress provides a resource and reference for player understanding and development of each concept of focus. And… The positives continue! Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and/or struggling math learners- a perfect educational and fun app that supports student learning and engages student interest and motivation!
A very nice app for school or home.
What a wonderful find! This is terrific for working on math skills for young learners. The theme is fun, the activities are engaging and well thought out-I especially love the soft taps made when counting objects. This will also be good for following verbal directions.
Both of our boys really liked this app. They are 4 and 6. They would take turns answering questions. They loved when they earned enough letters to pick a reward. This app was a little too hard for our four year old, but with his brothers help he still had fun!
Our son has just turned four and absolutely loved this. There was just enough challenge for him. It is very well designed and gives plenty of opportunity for repeating and practising new skills and concepts. Perfect for a little boy or girl who loves pirates and learning.
We teach little children in a ESL class, and this program it is so children friendly that no matter the initial apprehension the may feel because it’s only in English, vanishes as soon the start using it and get that so much needed sense of " we can do this even if our English is not quite there yet". And the price it is very friendly as well. Please don’t stop and give us more.
We were looking for a math/numbers app for our kids that went beyond learning and counting numbers, but didn’t expect them to have strong addition and subtraction skills. We appreciate the way this app encourages children to use logic to learn – who knew young children could learn fractions! Additionally, the instructions are clearly spoken and the graphics are clean. We thought this was a pricey app, but we took a chance and spent the money – totally worth the money!
This is a great way for students to practice math skills. It can be used all year to reinforce previously introduced concepts. The only thing that would make it better, would be to increase number sequence to 100 and facts to 20.
