Community Insight:

Good game but very short , like first one more.

So glad to find a unique match 3 game like this, with no IAP, thank you, developer! Very beautifully designed. The only thing we dont like is that its landscape only (the original Azkend is portrait, much easier to hold and match). Still, thats not a dealbreaker. This game is super well designed and challenging and fun.

Loved what they kept the same, love what they changed. Story is fun and art is beautiful. Good sound track too. The new added game types are extremely fun. Not giving it 5 stars because we beat it without losing (so not challenging enough) and only took a few hours. So changing one of those two Id change our rating to 5. But given the quality of game content and possible updates definitely worth the money.

It was a pleasure playing this game, the graphics, music and the game itself is very interesting. Kudos to the developers. Highly recommended.

A wonderful game with much more stunning visuals than the original Azkend, but our only complaint is that the tiles are a lot smaller in this game that makes it a lot harder to go fast.

First of all, to people whining that it's too difficult: It's not supposed to be relaxing. Not every game is relaxing. If you're finding it too difficult, do like the game says and try different active and lassie power ups. Our only complaint is that the game is so short! We beat it in a few days of casual play. The first Azkend seemed much, much longer. Please add levels.

Got boring rather quickly. We agree more with the 3.5 star reviews listed on the Internet.

It doesn't seem like the tutorial is ever done. Each level of the game seems to start out with a hint or tutorial. We figure once the original tutorial is done, we know how to play the game. If something different comes to the game, a tutorial is nice. When it's just match 3, we don't need a lesson each time.

Azkend was a very simplistic game that was good for killing some time while standing on the subway or in line at the post office. One of the key benefits to that game was that it's easily playable with one hand. Azkend 2 is in landscape mode for some reason. Why? It therefore requires two hands. Azkend 2 does look much nicer with higher resolution graphics. But we deleted it right away because it's in landscape mode. Oh well.

This needs to be updated for newly released firmware and hardware. And the story is so short it's pathetic that the developers didn't add more. We thought the first was the better of this version 2.

We loved the original Azkend. Version 2, however, even after all of the updates, is way too difficult and time-limiting to be enjoyable for us. We're just not into that. We like relaxing games.

Great puzzle game, adventure storyline, music, high production values overall. Gameplay is challenging and there's a lot of strategy involved in picking the correct items best suited for each level. Getting stuck on a level is frustrating, but switching up equipment in your inventory usually is the key to passing the level. We agree with most reviewers that the timer is frustrating but it's all the sweeter when you beat the level.

Nice music and graphics. Very challenging. We love the story that goes along with it.

For the longest time, we were put off by reviews that were saying just how difficult and frustrating this game is. It seems the game has been balanced since then, because Azkend 2 is truly excellent. We'll be clear: if you want a relaxing match game, Azkend 2 is not for you. (It can be frustrating at times, as you really need to vary your powerups, much moreso than the first game.) That said, if you want a challenging, beautiful match game with excellent music and nicely varied goals (much more so than the first Azkend), then you've found your game. EDIT: just finished the game last night…and went back and started it over again (you get to keep your power ups!), as well as working on the medals. On the whole, some of the levels maybe feel a bit too hard (bug levels on a small grid were quite challenging), in that they require as much luck as skill…but no board took us more than a dozen tries….and it makes the payoff all the more rewarding. Difficult, but not impossible (Jewel Quest vs levels, we're looking at you). On the whole, every bit as good as the first game, and in many ways, better.

Excellent matching gameplay with good controls and top notch art and music. Loved this game. Finished it in about three sittings.

The music and artwork is really good. Gameplay is also excellent and very immersive and addicting. Love it.

We loved the original version, we still have it and play it. We are sure ver. 2 will be as fun as the s1st.

Loved version 1, thoroughly enjoying version 2! Thank you for making a wonderful game.

This is the game for you our friend. Much more difficult than the original. Don't go in unawares. Great game just 50% more frustrating than the first one. Still great polish and good mechanics though. Personally when we play something like this, we like a challenge, but a relaxing one, this title delivers on the first, but sadly does not on the second.

We enjoyed the adventure mode mostly but 2 things make this a game to avoid. Some levels are going to be lost from the beginning. On multiple occasions we had maps where there was only 1 valid move and then the map would regenerate. What is worse is that sometimes the newly generated map had the same issues. Then on the medals gameplay, you can lose the ability to win the medal with no explanation of why. Randomly the medals get disabled for the level.

We love this game! It is challenging but not impossible. We have played it, and the first one, many, many times. We wish they would come out with another one. When they do we'll be first in line to buy it.

Excellent game. Engaging and intense. Smoothe play very much appreciated. Too difficult? Well, you either can or cannot beat it. If its not your style, quit whining and move on. We say, " Bring it." Isn't that what gaming is about? Win or lose. It's a game.

Thank you for updating this program. Much improved after the update. The first game is one of our favorites. This has now become our most played game.

As of version 1.1.5 Azkend 2 is much more accessible with less stress over the luck of the tiles. The game runs smoother as well and our data is no longer being erased for no reason. Great update, this is now a wonderful 5 star game.

Gah, the bugs! This one will drive you nuts and we haven't made it through yet, but if it was enough to keep us playing for a long stint, then its a good game. Our only complaint is that some of the picture matching bits are simply too indistinguishable to identify. (And we've got retina display – it's just too much monochrome.).

Good update! Beat the game & enjoy replay with all the power ups. Would like to be able to play with multiple profiles. Wish the developers would revamp Sparkle so that on master & expert levels player could use Immortality with 1 other amulet, like this game. Sparkle doesn't let you move much with Immortality & you die pretty easily without it from mid game forward.

Update: Thankfully the developers listened to the negative comments and have released an update that addresses most of the concerns. Some levels are still hard, but in a "fair" way. Still not as fun as version 1, though. Original Review: loved Azkend, and we understand that a sequel is not going to be the same game. But we expected better than this. The tiles are OK but not as interesting as in the first game. The game is much more challenging, but not in a fun way. Roadblocks on every board prevent the player from matching really long chains. In fact the game seems to be designed to make matching chains longer than 3 a rarity. So often there are no matches possible and you must watch a pointless and overly long shuffling animation many times per level, only to be left with a board with few chains, none of which help you complete the level as the clock ticks down. Will not be buying the third installment on faith.

We really enjoyed azkend. This game has better production values but the game balance is terrible. Easy levels are followed by ldifficult levels where you just have to hope to get lucky to get a good layout to advance. Then after hard levels the next one might be easy again. Also don't like the picture search segments since the reference image can be rotated and the time limit is short.

This game is far inferior to the first, despite having great potential. The difficulty curve is still way too steep, with most timed puzzles feeling like games of chance rather than real puzzles. As a result, the game lacks the satisfying feeling of accomplishment we got from the first one. We will not be buying any further games in this series without a comprehensive demo. Once burned, twice shy.

Their best release yet, so far. Very clever new puzzles. Still great music and beautiful, engaging artwork. Their match three, puzzle, story games de-stress and recharge yourself, and challenge you at the same time. We have read the the "unbalanced" complaints. But we like the variety of new elements in the puzzles. Not just match three, they add more clever twists. We also enjoy the small touch of working the story line into some of the "find the photo detail" sections. These chapter breaks used to seem random, pointless, and easy. Now they are getting harder but with some story clues to lead you. We like that their previous games are games that we can finish, unlike the pinball games that require being a fanatic games master to get far into them. We will see if we get stuck later. Disclaimer: we haven't finished the game yet. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the quick turn around on iPad Retina Retina support. Game looks amazing on the new iPad. Super fun fun game. Also love Sparkle, hope you update that game as well. Keep it up and we'll keep buying your games.

As much as we loved the first Azkend, this second version is a major disappointment. The graphics are great, but there just isn't enough time or space on the game board to make matches and finish some levels. We're only halfway through and having to play levels repeatedly to pass them. We rarely had to do that on the first one or any other match-3 we've played. We think more time to finish levels would help, or decreasing the number of different types of game pieces on the boards to help make matches might be another solution. But it definitely needs some work because it's just an exercise in frustration the way it is now.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first Azkend so this was an instant buy. The game graphically looks great. The levels seem to be very unbalanced with regards to difficulty, however. Many levels we have encountered were beaten the first time through. Then there have been a couple that took hours to defeat due to very challenging map layout and horrible tile placement, many times resulting into inability to match a string. We're about to give up on this game as it gets to be more trial and error than strategy on these levels. Hope this can be improved with an update.

We agree with everything that has been said. Loved the first game. This one is a real drag. We eagerly awaited the release and now we can't even stand to play. Graphics are great but not fun. Really needs to be improved.

The original Azkend received a lot of praise. We tried it's trial version and enjoyed it, so we thought we would really like the sequel. While Azkend 2 looks great, we find the gameplay repetitive and boring. It does not help that often you will repeatedly run out of moves and the game will shuffle it's tiles, but even if that problem were absent we think we would still quickly tire of this game. This was a disappointing purchase.

We completely agree with the other comments regarding the difficulty level of this game. It is almost impossible to complete certain levels. This game could have been great but alas it has been ruined. It quickly stops being fun and instead becomes irritating and frustrating. It's a shame because the graphics and music are gorgeous. Save your money and buy Heroes of Kalevela instead. This game is such a disappointment! This is a brilliant developer. Maybe they can fix this. We hope so.

We absolutely loved the first one but wow, can you say Major Disappointment?? This new version is frustrating beyond belief. The power ups just aren't fun and you barely get to use them because putting together chains longer than 4-5 rarely happens. And when a tile matching game has to "reshuffle" as much as this does you know something is wrong. We couldn't out the first one down, quite literally. We lost interest in azkend 2 after about 1/3 of the game. It's just not fun.

Read these reviews, we Azkenders are a loyal bunch. Beautiful graphics, a good storyline to give it structure and the music is wonderful! Thank you 10tons. We may never get our work done now.

Love it. Can't say it enough, we love this game. So worth the couple bucks for all you get. Amazing.

We were a big fan of the first one on iPhone, and again later when HD came out for the iPad. If you enjoyed either of the original versions, it's almost a given that this should be on your list to buy. While the story may not be necessary, it's a nice enough addition, and seems better integrated here than the first game. The campaign, as much as you can have a campaign in a matching game, flows well with the progression of pieces and abilities to unlock. Rather than just a random new tile, you're unlocking them within the context of the narrative being told. Again, narrative in a tile matching game is a bit odd, but we like how they made it work rather well. Additionally, where we found the first game to be a bit on the easy side, the difficulty ramps up a bit better in this version. Rather than finishing most levels with tons of time remaining, the new rules and abilities will have you pulling out more squeakers. Yet even with the new additions, everything feels right at home here… It's still Azkend through and through. Finally, the level of polish in the presentation is spot on. Not so overdone that the story or interface gets in the way, and while the file size might seem a bit high, once you start to play it makes sense and feels just right. All the way down to the flow of the in-game tutorials, Azkend 2 just feels like a very well thought out experience designed to be enjoyed. II may not be breaking a lot of new ground in the genre, but the ground it treads is solid and pleasurable.

One of our favorite developers have done it again! We bought this without hesitation and waiting these years for a sequel was well worth it. We're so impressed by the graphics and the gameplay. This would really look beautiful on the iPad and we can't wait to play further into this game.

Our kid is in love with this game and so am we. Very good job devs. Now bring on the Boom Brigade HD.

Don't get us wrong, it plays a lot the same, but there's some "thing" missing from the game. We played the old version for the iPhone back to back with the iPad version and everything, the animation, flipping tile backgrounds, even the special effects just seems quicker and smoother on the old game. There was a certain charm to those other images that this version lacks. Add to that the voice over that really want needed, and it almost seems like this game was handed off to another team that just had the most basic idea of how the game works. As another review said, you run into "no more moves" really early into the game which feels more like weak play balancing given the shape and size of that particular board. We really wish we could say that it's more of the same, but it's not. It's a shadow of a brilliant game.

Just want to echo the sentiment expressed by others. This is a beautiful game with time issues and far too many "no more moves". This disrupts game flow while the lack of moves and time elements causes undue frustration. We will say that we respect this developer and hope that these issues get resolved. We bought this game since we appreciate their work and trust that these issues get resolved soon.

Polish and elegance are terms often used when describing games. From the interface and controls to the graphics and animation, those characteristics are typically the foundation for success. In the case of Azkend 2: The World Beneath by 10tons, the match 3 adventure games issue is not lack of polish or elegance, but rather flawed substance and execution. While looks may be everything in todays world, the guts under the hood Azkend 2 needs some fine tuning. Instead of a sequel that should have outshined the original, what you have is a mediocre game. As a huge fan of the original, we expected a similar experience with this second installment. On the visual front, Azkend is a beautiful game with deep backgrounds and vibrant screens. The devs created semi-realistic environments using texture and shadowing techniques that make each scene vivid and deceptively charming. The animated game screens are enticing which is a significant plus since youll spend most of the time staring at them. All of this is complemented by a whimsical soundtrack that creates an aura of wonder. Azkends storyline revolves around you being shipwrecked in a fantastic world with the overall goal of making it back to civilization. The story is intriguing, but of course, is innocuous and shallow. The game offers three modes of play: Adventure, Time Challenge and Medals Challenge. Adventure is the story mode that takes you through 60 levels with the overall objective of collecting pieces to form power ups. Time Challenge provides a random puzzle where the goal is to score as many points as possible within the allotted time. Medals Challenge provides puzzles based on completed levels in Adventure mode with a gold medal awarded for completing the puzzle quickly. The game boards in Azkend 2 are well designed and vary from level to level. To clear tiles, you must make matches of 3 or more like tiles to clear them off and turn the board blue. Along the way, special pieces are acquired to complete tools and gadgets that serve as power ups. The challenge of course is these pieces dont appear until the entire board is blue, and you have a limited amount of time. What we enjoyed about the original are the power ups, and that remains the case in this installment. Youll come across a number of different items from binoculars and glasses to dynamite and even gears. Obstacles are part of the game, and these can range from fires and ice to locks and bugs. These obstacles must be cleared before a level can be completed, and thats where the power ups come in. For example, the Hammer when activated by making a match of 3 or more of its tiles will turn parts of the board blue and potentially even knock out obstacles. In other puzzles involving bugs, power ups are ultimately used to kill them. Dynamite on the other hand explodes and knocks out tiles in the area as well as turns the board blue. By completing each level in Adventure mode, you acquire a piece to form a specific power up to be used in the next chapters. And, the Inventory area is set up so that you can pick and choose which power ups to use so there is a degree of configurability. From a concept perspective, Azkend 2 sounds like a challenging game experience which for the most part it is. Locating matching tiles, turning the board blue, and securing pieces of power ups is an engaging proposition that should appeal to many. Plus, the time element adds a nice dynamic to the game, and watching the explosive animations on screen is a treat. Where Azkend 2 suffers is in its execution with the puzzles themselves. Too often, the randomly generated levels in Adventure mode are near impossible to clear and with the time element, you have a recipe for frustration. Part of the strategy for players is that as more matches are made, electric coils gradually charge up which when fully charged can turn isolated tiles into blue ones. Longer chains of 5+ tiles automatically generate a charge, which can be a significant strategic advantage. However, what occurs frequently in Azkend 2 is the tiles given do not offer anything more than a match 3 so you find yourself unable to create longer chains. Too many levels end unsuccessfully not because of poor strategy on the players part, but instead on the luck of the draw with the tiles. What adds to the frustration is how frequent boards automatically reshuffle due to no more matches. For example, the eyeglasses power up provides hints on matches. More times than not, it will highlight a match 3 to be made, and that will turn out to be the only match available before the boards go into auto reshuffle. Ive had levels where reshuffling has happened at least four times in a single sitting. Also parts of the story are provided through grand and vivid scenes, and as in the original, Azkend 2 inserts a scene match puzzle. This is similar to hidden item games except the objective to find randomly selected cut scenes in the overall picture. Part of the problem is that this feels more like a tedious exercise than a fun game because most of the scenes can appear so generic youd rather just skip it altogether. Aside from the Time Challenge mode, there is no high score tracking although there is GameCenter achievements providing some albeit limited replay value. Even in Time Challenge, a shortcoming is that none of the power ups acquired in Adventure mode can be used which for some, may take away from the experience. When it comes to appearances, Azkend 2 is polished with an elegant design and in concept, a terrific game. However, in gameplay, the execution may leave many wanting and frustrated. While every game needs a degree of challenge, Azkend 2 takes it too far leaving gamers more discouraged than satisfied.

We're a huge fan of azkend, but with the gaping holes in azkend 2, we can't justify giving it more than 2 stars. Too often, the board needs to reshuffle, and the puzzles are an unneeded and irritating addition. Once these issues get fixed, this will easily be a 5 star game.

We really don't like timed games, we think it takes some of the fun out of it.
