Community Insight:

This game is incredible. Its literally perfect. The languages were so well thought out and it was the perfect level of challenge. We want twenty more just like it. Honestly, we could barely put this game down. Thank you so much to all of those involved in this game.

Not yet finished but thoroughly enjoying this game. Had to look up a couple spoilers in the beginning until we got the hang of the games logic.

This game is so incredibly fun that we just kicked the bucket right then and there in the game.

This is the best game Ive played in a while. Love love love love love it.

Incredible game to play. Draws you in immediately with stunning visuals. Each language, level and grammatical structure is built in a way that uniquely reflects on the people who speak it. Draws out a combination of puzzle solving, anthropological story telling and mystery. To recommend is an understatement, its worth every penny and more.

What an incredible gameIm almost speechless. We cant believe the publisher is only asking six bucks! (And thank you for the ability to check it out first!) The art and design, immaculate. Absolute brain candy. The story and how it unfolds, curious and wonderful. The language as primary puzzle component, so much fun! Its just fantastic. And it keeps going, cohesively, interestingly. Each level has such a lovely assortment of mysteries and little puzzles. Such a creative game. Two relatively tiny improvements imo: the double-tap for the glyphs is unusually fast (on an iPhone 14) to the extent that it was frustrating. Also, a map would be out of place of course, but so much time looking if you cant remember locations. This hasnt unseated Inkles 80 Days as our favorite game (replayability), but it is right up there. Thank you.

We binged it in less than 48 hours. Incredible work.

Such a stand-alone concept and refreshing departure from the mundane everyday point and click puzzler game. Genius to incorporate the concepts of linguistics and translation into a game that also tells a story and you get to be the hero all at once. The progression flows very well and the mechanics are very organic. We felt like the length was just perfect, yet we still had so much fun that we want more! Well worth the money and we look forward to hopefully another installment soon! Highly recommend.

We never leave reviews but this game moved us so profoundly. We downloaded the free version to kill some time on the plane but we got so captivated by it that as soon as we landed we purchased the full one. Such a beautiful story and execution, made our brain work extra hours haha! Thank you guys xx.

The game is so fun! Its the first language game Ive enjoyed so much! And we really hope theres a Mac version we can play.

We absolutely love how you have to learn how to over come a language barrier to beat the games puzzles and the aesthetic is very nice. Is there any plans to bring the game to Apple Arcade.

Very interesting mechanics – a little hard to click on occasion but still very good and fun.

This is a really nice game, and if the premise intrigues you, a no brainer download. Youre wandering freely through a parallel dimension type world, piecing together a strange language through visual cues. For instance, you might see someone talking and be able to infer some words from their actions. Or you might find a pictorial monument with a caption in glyphs that you can interpret from the depicted scene. If this sounds fun to you, youll like this game. If not, for sure give it a pass. But for those so inclined, this is a full, well produced and involving game with a magnificently artistic visual style. It winds up being longer and deeper than it first appears, so if you enjoy it up front, its only going to get better. For us, the puzzles took just the right amount of figuring out, always logical and fair. There is also a decent and surprisingly poignant underlying story. Its fun and rewarding to play, and the kind of game that will stick with you long after you finish. If parsing out a language from quality clues is your kind of game, Sennaar is terrific.

The game is beautiful and sooo entertaining. Im done and we want more! Are you guys thinking of doing anything else related to this game.

We dont think Ive ever left an app review before, but we had to because this game was so amazing. We were hooked to the story and loved how it made us really think (in a good way) to play the game instead of just another mindless game. The graphics, the story, the music, the.everything was perfect! The only complaint is we wish it had somehow been even longer so we could enjoy it more.

This was truly challenging, and quite mysterious. It wasnt remotely predictable and there were numerous instances where we were completely stumped. The only thing we were disappointed with was the ending. Thats all we can say.

We enjoyed the game quite a bit, decent value for the price and the puzzles were challenging enough without being infuriating. What WAS infuriating was a random and unforgiving action sequence near the end of the game in stark contrast to every other facet of the game before or after. The iOS tap controls made the experience frustrating as did the lack of recorded maze progress unlike every other comparable puzzle. The game is a fairly chill puzzle game for 99% but the shift was a rude awakening.

When we try to play the game for the first time on IPad, during the loading screen, it just kicks us out! We had tried everything, deleating the app, restarting our IPad, and update the app, but nothing. We would have to rate it higher if it worked.

We got the game because a game based on language sounded really interesting. We got through the first section OK but then there was a lot of sneaking, which we find very tedious, so we gave up on the game. The language part was really cool, so its a shame that the sneaking ruined it for us.

But shouldnt really be played with on smartphone. It at least needs ability to zoom in on details and better controls for small screens.

This game is big and the universe it has created is so intricate. This game has definitely advanced this genre and set a new bar. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

This game is such an awesome ride. The puzzles are difficult and unique in a way we havent seen in a mobile game. We could see how this would be more difficult to play on a phone with the small screen, but it was perfect for an iPad. This is the first mobile game we have bought and we honestly wish there was more. 10/10.

We love the concept of having to decipher a language and tease out the quirks of its grammar. Id probably buy a subscription to puzzles like this, and we certainly hope this is followed up with some sequels. Some of the actual game navigation was a bit tedious (especially the catacombs) and we wish the elevators and other conveyances werent quite so slow, and some of the crucial parts of the gameplay we had to resort to consulting a walkthrough (who knew theres a door behind that bush?), but the language deciphering aspect was so delightful.

We enjoyed this game so much that we didnt want the story to end. The environments and cultures these developers created are exquisite. Loved the fixed perspective in some shots, and am astounded that the team behind Chants of Sennaar invented so many languages and glyphs for this concept. Bravo.

Im not even a person that plays games but we were scrolling on the App Store looking for something to try. The aesthetics of this game caught our eye and ended up being so interesting. The puzzles and world are really fascinating and this is coming from someone who doesnt play games. We will say the game does play into our interest of languages and a sci-fi kinda world so not sure thats for everyone but we really love it. We hope they make more games in this universe.

We love a puzzle game with a strong, meaningful story. The art is beautiful and fits the story. Have paper and pencil at hand when you play. This isnt Myst-level difficult; nevertheless keeping a record will help. There are some timed puzzles but they arent too hard for this slow player. The hardest thing to do is to very rapidly double tap symbols, so we just triple tap them fast.

One of the best games Ive ever played! Perfect graphics, and score, engaging story, challenging puzzles checks all the boxes. We want to score your next one.

We love games full of puzzles this one reminds of when we were in college and we was learning how to people use to encrypt messages and had certain ways to decrypt them and we thought it was cool. We love how u can guess what something might mean which helps figure out the true meaning of a symbol we hope they keep adding maps to this game or make more like it.

We wish there were more puzzle games like this. Great fun.

We love this game, its so fun, beautiful and challenging. Its almost perfect but, we find that we constantly miss important things and have to watch play throughs to actually play the game right. This is because it, at times, can be very unclear which way you are supposed to go, leading to us missing important things. Like, in the very beginning of the warriors section we missed a key thing in the very beginning but was able to keep going. But, then we got stuck and found we missed an important part. We were quite frustrated at that because we had to go back to the very beginning of that section. We love this game, we only wish it was more clear where you are supposed to go next. Maybe this is just a us thing, we still love the game and it was totally worth the cost.

This was the best game Ive played in a long time. The art is not only beautiful, it gives the game so much depth. A whole world on a small screen. The puzzle aspect is fresh and the perfect amount of challenge. Well worth the price.

Loved this game from other platform, but the issues in the title are just intolerable.

This game is not what we would expect from the App Store. Its complex, its graphics are beautiful, the storyline is deep and riveting. If we could play this game for the first time again, we would.

A fun puzzle game with a nice story element as well! Far more fun than we expected when we first downloaded it.

This game was absolutely worth paying for. The storyline was interesting. The puzzles were engaging. The art is lovely. We dont really have complaints.

Chants of Sennaar was hands down one of the best puzzle games Ive ever played. The game wasnt too difficult but it still presented some interesting mechanics and gameplay features. It is an awesome game if youre looking for an intriguing story.

We dont have the attention span so we gave up right away. But we think its an awesome idea for a game.

This is one of the best puzzle games out there. We love that there are no hints or ads, just amazing puzzles, graphics, and music. We applaud the many people that worked on this app. MAKE MORE GAMES LIKE THIS.

So much fun playing this game, challenging but definitely solvable puzzles. Just when you figure out one language and solve most puzzles, youre taken to a new culture to start all over. Love the way each level and language connects in the end, take the extra time to fully finish the game and connect everything. Never played anything like this before.

Really enjoyed it. Its beautiful game and very creative. Its been awhile since we enjoyed a game so much. Make a sequel.

Ive been an avid gamer for 35 years. (Starting with the first Mac you could take home.) This is easily in our top eight, maybe even top five games we have ever played. If you liked Heavens Vault or The Return of the Obra Dinn, get this game immediately.

Just finished playing, fantastic!!! The glyphs tested our patience a little bit . Im also very big on visuals and UI, and this was just pleasing to our eyes. Thank you for playing. No, thank youuu allll for creating.

Similar vibe to Heavens Vault. As someone who doesnt finish most games, we finished this one. Perfect puzzle game.

It has been a long time since Ive enjoyed a puzzle as much as we did this one. We loved deciphering not just the vocabularies but even the grammars of these different languages. And then translating between them! And undergirding it all is a compelling mystery that you reveal layer by layer, uncovering cultural biases embedded in language. Superb! So well done.

This game is so interesting, you have to explore and understand the new language. It doesnt free though:))).

$8 for a full-length game?? Wild! Id have paid $100 for this gorgeous piece of artwork. Engaging gameplay with enough clues to keep us from giving up. Beautiful graphics and a storyline that kept us guessing. Loved playing this, recommending to all our friends immediately.

We love the concept of this game and feel like the language puzzles are the highlight. These are intriguing and difficult enough, without being impossible. But the repetition of each level, after the first level, being labyrinthine is tiring. Its also quite hard to play on our phone, due to lack of zoom capabilities. We cant see gestures very clearly and miss details that Im sure Im meant to see, or click on just the wrong area with our stubby fingers on this tiny game screen, only to be killed. (For this reason, we appreciate that we dont have to worry about lives.) Im going to finish the game because Im interested in the story, but we find the gameplay a bit of a slog.

We played Chants of Sennar on Xbox Game Pass and got really close to the end, but then it got taken off before we could finish. The game itself is actually really good. Its unique, creative, and worth playing, but the way its offered is frustrating. If youre going to make it free to download on the App Store, it should either be completely free (maybe with ads) or clearly say something like Chants of Sennar (pay in game) so people know theyll eventually have to pay. Its disappointing to get invested in a game and then realize you cant finish unless you buy it after already putting in so much time.

The text for this game is too tiny to read on our iPhone and, as the developer lists, crashes when played on iPad 9.
