Chess is a board game played between two players. It is played on a chessboard, which is a square-checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. At the beginning of the game each player controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in "check") and there is no way to remove or defend it from attack on the next move.

We guess the people who made this game didn't know how to play chess. Every time we play this game it is a draw. A draw is when the king is not in check but any way he moves he becomes in check. But noooo it's a draw no matter what.
It helps us comfortable after stress time.
We keep drawing again and again. It stinks.
Do not waste your time with this. Get Stockfish or some real chess app. This should not be in the app store.
Other reviews say 'this app great' and 'this is app great' obviously their reviews by the creators buddy's or something, cause we downloaded it and no this is app is NOT great! We took out the computers king in the first game within 30 seconds on medium diff. And the game continued as if we hadn't won! It only let's the queen move one space at a time. It won't let a pawn move two spaces on its first move if it will counter an attack. All these problems discovered on the first 30 sec. Of play! It's a waist of data.
We got the computer in checkmate and it wouldn't end. It says "your turn" but every move we do is an "illegal move". He is clearly done, there is no move left. Please fix.
Pros: -awesome art style -most character of any chess app Cons: -uses own achievement system -crashes after the game starts.
Every time we go to play a game the app freezes and we can't move a single piece.
Took less than 5 minutes to corner the king, and then when you are about to win the game froze.. Needs to work out some more bugs.

Simply horrible. We have been winning by great margings several times and it always ends in a draw and has never let us win. Waste of time. Deleting right now.
At all! Freezes before we can even get to the fourth move. Can't believe its even allowed on the appstore.
Not bad except the player can not be black, but black can be configured to move first?? The hardest difficult setting is the only one challenging (for us) so we are thinking the lower settings it has available might be good practice modes for beginning players.
We'd really like it if instead of getting so many "illegal move" pop-ups (because we know we're trying to do legal moves) maybe saying when you're in check if that's the problem (because we have a feeling that was part of the problem when we were playing) or some how showing what pieces can be moved for beginning players (although maybe that's more of a full version feature). We only say this because while we were playing it kept on popping up illegal move and we had no idea as to why.
Pretty good but one complaint is if you have computer in checkmate its a draw.
This is a great chess app especially for beginners. Quick and simple. All possible moves are displayed for selected piece. Easy level setting opponent is made to commit deliberate blunders.
Been playing for a few days, seems to be a solid game of chess. Yet, nothing special really… They don't explain castling your king, we're still trying to figure that one out… But as free apps go, you really can't go wrong here.
If you're a chess player and want a chess app, this one is a must have. It shows possible moves, alerts to illegal moves and offers skill levels for all. One con is, it calls a draw too quickly. Sometimes it looks as though it calls a checkmate a draw (after intense study we see the app is right). We'd like to see an option for quick, random training option. One which offers a series of board scenarios where the player must identify the correct move. Other than these comments and suggestion it really is a great app.
Not bad, for free, but it wrongly calculates one repetition as a draw, when it should require three repetitions, with no other moves between the reps. It does occasionally vary its opening move, where many other free games do not, which is good. We tried to justify spending the extra buck for the paid version, but neither has ads, neither has a selection of boards, backgrounds or pieces, so beyond just saying thanks to the developer for writing a version of chess that the average Joe can beat on the Medium level, but the Advanced and expert levels will blow most people out of the water unless they get used to hitting the Undo button. We like the way you cannot select Undo if you are in a Mate In One situation. Good job.
Whenever we have the computer in checkmate it counts it as a draw.
Really good to pass the time, but sometimes we will have the computer in checkmate and it will count it as a draw. We wouldn't care if it only happened once, but it happens very often and is very annoying. PLEASE FIX.
We would never download this chess game. We are decent taught ourselves and have read the rules. We are not positive but we recall 50 moves. If you go back and forth with a piece twice it is a draw. The writers did not research and this is worthless. This is a worthless game. We discourage anyone wanting a fair game to not do this one. If the game is all but lost this designer programmed in DRAW. Do not download. He plays to call a draw when his king cannot be captured. It is a waste of time. We laugh at the frequency of the games called a draw. It is funny at times. Poor programming. These guys would not know a draw if one were on their forehead. It is totally frustrating. How can a game be called a draw after six moves. No chance for putting opposing king into check. This is frustrating. Draw draw draw.
Absolutely horrible. We're not bad at chess, but we win 50% of the time on easy. It doesn't tell why moves are illegal, making you have to search why. Can't change your color, yet you can choose who goes first.
This is a great app helped us out alot in improving our skills now we make veterans look like amateurs hehe.

THIS IS NOT BAD, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER FREE CHESS GAMES THAT ARE BETTER THAN THIS ONE HERE. THIS WOULD BE A WHOLE LOT BETTER IF YOU COULD CHANGE THE PIECES AS WELL AS THE CHESS BOARD. Nice chess game, but hate with ads and open feint version. Will start find others chess game to replace this.
What to expect in a chess game? Plain and nicely done user interface? But this one just too plain and nothing special. But it is free anyway, so what is in the full version again? Responsive also slow, whenever choose a army or whatever to move, have to wait 0.5second only the path is visible. Slow game or iPhone 4 is too slow for this game.
Best free chess app out so far. We've dl'ed a few chess apps, and they all had problems with making illegal moves or not allowing us to make legal moves. But with this one, we can actually finish the game without closing the app.
Nice chess game. Easy to undo moves. Quick gameplay with variable ai.
Being able to use bump to find another player is awesome. We use it on the iPhone to play quick games with our son on the iPad. The only reason we're not giving it 5 stars is because there is a bug that sometimes let's him play our turn, then the whole game gets out of sync. Fix that and we'll update the rating to 5 stars and buy the non free version. Nice game.
