Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
Have this on the PlayStation as well. Graphics and gameplay runs smooth, sound is phenomenal and little to NO lag. We Rand a solid 45-60fps (sometimes higher). If you want the BEST experience, youre gonna need a M4 or M5 chip. Anything under can and most likely WILL impact performance. If its not an pro, expect less.
Amazing port. Great game. Must have.
We love the story and the gameplay is fenomenal and we get to play it on our phone whenever its mind blowing!!! We really hope the next one comes out for iPhones as well PLEASEEEE.
We played only 30 min on ps5 and left the game. But decided to give a second chance on iOS and realized, what mistake we made to ignore it before. Great job.
Five stars because we want more AAA titles on iOS, and this game specifically is incredible! However its 2026 and the lack of cloud saving is fully unacceptable.
10/10 works with the backbone but wont show up on the app.
Originally played this game on PS4 and couldnt beat it and eventually lost interest. Saw it on App Store for $5 and couldnt pass it up. Glad we didnt. This has been the best gaming experience in years. Dont remember enjoying it this much the first time around. Looking forward to the sequel. Purchased a controller and it is so much better than using a mouse and keyboard. Before writing this we noticed that the game is compatible with pretty much all Apple hardware which is a plus. May install on our iPhone just to see what that is like. Wonder if the saved games from the computer transfer to the phone. One annoying thing is that sometimes it seems like there is endless respawning of Hiss (enemies) which makes the game feel less story-based and more like an arcade zombie shooter/survival game. Also sometimes they respawn all around you at once and dont know of a good attack that addresses that without dying.
This game is one of the most iconic and thought provoking games of the 21st century; your mind will implode at the final level and how it displays shifting dimensions. To play it on mobile (with a Backbone pro)? Magnifique. We have religiously played Max Payne since its OG release on PC, along with MP2. Then Alan Wake, American Nightmare, then Control, then AW2. The blending of elements of 80s SciFi in Control with Twin Peaks and Stephen King in Alan Wake has us beyond enthralled. If AW can come to mobile, we will gladly hand over our credit card. This port of Control is possibly the best way to experience it if you have a new phone and controller (backbone pro). We live in a world of magic and miracles. Thank you, Remedy. Fyi if you ever want feedback/testing, we are herefor free :).
We have to retract our previous review. Initially after spending money (not too much) just the principle that we did we were very disappointed that we couldnt even play Control. We are elated to know it was just space that we needed in order to play. Im also excited to know that its on PS5. Im all for it. We love science fiction despite us not fully understanding how the map worked its still a really fun game to us. We would recommend it.
Its a fairly short game, not very replayable. But for its price it is an absolute god send. Console experience on your iPad is insane.
Everything is perfect except the icon of app, ugly and cheap, please change it.
Great on m5 iPad Pro. Graphics and performance are comparable to lower range pc or console.
On iPhone 15 Pro, it runs stable 30 fps. It's even smoother than 60 fps on 144Hz monitor. Image is very sharp, not blurry!, and graphics are beautiful. Touchscreen controls are very convenient. Difficulty level has been adjusted for pleasant experience (it was more challenging on PC). Casual players can use auto-aim and other "simplifications." Subtitles are available in 13 languages (the same as on PC). As a Switch Lite fan, we got a Switch 2 and a Lenovo Legion Go, but for us, they're not the most convenient, lightweight, or portable. We know that there are very few people like us, but iPhone is what gives us pleasure of playing these blockbuster single-player games. Thanks for great phone game.
Playing the game on iPhone 15 Pro Max with the OhSnap MCON controller. Gameplay is very smooth, even on the older hardware. Launching and playing the game via the new Games App UI is indistinguishable from playing on console. We have played the game before on PlayStation, Steam, Mac, and now iPhone. This is a solid option for anyone looking for a great, AAA, 3rd person action title on a mobile device. Thank You, Remedy! We hope to see more of your classic titles, and future releases come to all Apple Silicon device.
And the story/writing is excellent. One of the most enjoyable on the ipad.
We have been a big fan of Control and Remedy entertainment for a good few years now so we recommend this game in general. In terms of performance, we played this on an iPhone 16 pro and it ran beautifully. We havent messed with the graphics too much but the default settings look great with no perceivable stutters. We are not the biggest fan of touch controls but they seem to be implemented as well as they can be. Worst case connect a controller and you will have a wonderful time.
Its amazing how we can play a game of this scale on a phone from our pocket. Please just keep tweaking controller support.
Great game, runs very well. Our only critique is no gyro support. If the devs see this please consider, its an amazing inclusion for shooter games.
Update: The devs listened! Now supports RT on M3-4 chips with a minimum of 10GB of RAM. Thank you!! Fantastic port in every way, but curious why the iPad Pro M4 1-2TB models with 16GB of RAM are excluded from all Ray Tracing features when it more than meets the RAM demand. A bit irked about the decision to keep RT exclusive to M5 at the moment, but if it truly is a limitation on the M4s end, we guess Id understand.
Game looks great once its running. Install took a few attempts and we cant get backbone controller working properly. Its working for most things but sprinting and interacting. Please add controller support.
We love the game but please add controller support we have a Backbone.
IPhone 17 pro. Recommend setting RT. At first it seems to work quickly, but after about minutes game starts slow motion and crash to Home Screen. It needs optimization. We would also like to adjust the size of the interface text and make the subtitles even larger. And iCloud save please.
First off, AMAZING to play this incredible title on our iPhone Air. Works almost flawlessly. Ive had maybe one crash which isnt bad. Only thing: Im using a backbone iOS controller and when the camera view is directly behind Jesse and Im going forward, running by pressing R3 doesnt quite work. We have to adjust the camera angle slightly to the left or right and then it works fine. Controller is working normally with other titles so its not the controller. Its a little annoying and we hope it gets fixed.
UPDATE: The original storage bug was fixed, and should not be an issue for any new users. This is a steal for $5, despite no cloud saves. Love: – Great Performance on an iPhone 16 (frame gen actually looks fantastic) – Incredible value (Base game + All DLC: $5 USD) – Solid touch controls (for a AAA full console title) Hate: – Immense size requirement (45 GB) – No cloud saves. – [FIXED] Convoluted Game Data Management (data is stored to System Data; can lock you out of a massive chunk of storage space) In short: we picked this up for $5 as a curiosity, despite receiving it for free on several platforms. Made room for it. Played it for a while before noticing the update to fix the bug that will lock you out of a large portion of your storage when you delete the game. Then attempted the fix. Game data was removed, as advertised, then re-downloaded. Data was unable to be verified, so we tried redownloading it again. Did this about 3 times, to no avail. Then, without thinking to hit the toggle to clear game data in the Settings > App > Control UltEd menu, we deleted the game. The unverifiable data was still on the phone. Tried to re-download the game, expecting a slim installer of a download, but was then told that we didnt have enough (read: 45GB) data to download the game. Somehow managed to clear just enough room to re-download the game on a 128 GB iPhone 16. Hopefully, Ill be able to clear the data from the first time we installed this game, so we can go back to using our iPhone normally. Until this issue is actually completely corrected, we cannot in good conscience recommend this product – which Apple was pushing on its App Store upon its initial release – no matter how well it runs on a phone. Which is a shame, because it runs incredibly well.
Amazing game. We played on our iPhone 17 pro max. We dealt with crashes here and there, but it didnt make the game unplayable, and we never lost progress because of them. Even after lowering graphics and frame rate, it does heat up your phone quite a bit, but it crashes less frequently. The purchase includes the base game and all DLC content. You get amazing value for the price. If youre trying to 100% the game, youll easily have 100+ hours of gameplay.
Please add backbone or similar controller support.
Awesome port but what about iPhone Air with A19pro? We can not enable ray tracing due to the game not recognizing IPhone Air has 12gb of Ram. Can we get an update on this?! Keep up the great ports we love gaming on IOS.
Right after we leave the Janitor's room in the very beginning of the game, the game crashes and has done it 5 times in a row; we're not sure this crash will let us continue the game. Update: After getting through the hiccup previously mentioned, the game has worked flawlessly. It is so nice to have a quality game on mobile device! It is also awesome that controllers were added without having the community beg for years on end. We hope to get more games as high quality as this on Iphones instead of the garbage that is released far to frequently.
Ive played this game all the way through once before really loved it and was looking forward to a new play through on our iPad, but the game is literally so dark that we cannot tell what we are doing or where we are on the map. Theres no way to change the display settings. This is becoming very problematic for us.
Overall, we like this game but it kinda sucks that progress doesnt sync across our devices which negates the benefits of this being a universal app. We wish we could play where we left off on our MacBook and then immediately start playing from that point on our iPad.
EDIT: Upping this from 2 stars to 3.5 stars. The update contained instructions that requires the player to make adjustments in the Settings app. Upon doing so and rebooting the AVP, the game stopped crashing, but the audio glitchiness and game speed oddities still remain. Im playing on an Apple Vision Pro M5 for context. We boot up the game and the intro is moving at 2X speed with music that plays with heavy crackle-pop static, and dialogue that completes 75% of a sentence before moving to the next line, or skips it if the line is too short (this is the case for all later cinematics). Intro ends and the game is running at an uncomfortable 2X-3X speed. Turning up the graphic settings makes the performance speed a pleasant 1X speed, but now the game is prone to crash at auto save processes that happen when picking up collectibles or talking to NPCs. We stop playing for the day and return the next to see an update. We update and restart the AVP. Audio glitches still present and more painfully ear piercing with each further cinematic. Performance/movement speed is still too hypercaffinated unless graphics settings are increased. But at least the auto save crash that is prone to happen when the graphic settings are high are much less frequent which is still TOO D__N frequent.
We absolutely love this game and the remedy universe but its disappointing our save doesnt cross over from our iPhone to our iPad and Mac worth the money but sucks we cant move from platform to platform.
Im super happy to see this game coming in such an fantastic looking port. Remedy should be commended for their work. However, not including iCloud saves negates some of the greater value-add that making this a universal app purchase implies. Having the game available to us on our ipad and iPhone is great but Im not likely to start two separate play through sessions to accommodate the lack of cloud saves. Still happy to support this work with the $5 purchase well worth it.
Great game. Still ongoing storage bug for early May patch where app shows as 45 gb initially, but then transfers to system data. At least there is a way to delete the data now.
It's so exciting to see a AAA game ported for ipad but only if they run correctly. We were so excited about this game. But now it runs on slow motion on our ipad air M3 11 inch and we reinstall asset packs. It didn't work. And we can't play it. It also still doesn't ray tracing on our M3 even after updating packfiles. So dear remedy. Please fix it.
Game eventually boots up after 20 minutes of a one time game asset download, which is fine. However, after all that, the game runs poorly. It runs at 2x speed, settings labels for graphics are labeled extremely weird. When this game was promoted, it seemed like there would be a Vision Pro dedicated app. Instead, it's just an iPad app COMPATIBLE with Vision Pro. We'll take what we can get honestly, but fix these issues.
This would be an amazing game. It has that old school Half-Life and Max Payne feel to it. Unfortunately all the enjoyment of playing the game hindered by the absurdly poor controller layout. It is absolutely appalling that the developers don't allow user controller layout customization other than adjusting the sensitivity. The touchscreen control buttons are way too small, way too low, and way too close. It might be perfect if you are an 11 yo or have the finger girth of someone who hasn't gripped anything heavier than an energy drink in their life. However, for those of us with more common adult finger sizes, it makes the game clunky and not only difficult to play, but also frustrating to play. When the width of a thumb covers three buttons, then obviously there is going to be issues with reliable responses, intuitive feedback, and muscle memory. We have played a lot of games and this game has the worst controller scheme we have ever used. We would say that there is maybe a 60% success rate when in an action sequence we only press the button that we intended to press. This makes certain missions requiring timing and precision almost unplayable at the worst and unenjoyable at the least. One mission in particular is the field training mission which unlocks an object of power. Given that you only have 60 seconds to complete the course, it is extremely difficult to navigate the course without inadvertently pressing more than just the button we wanted to press at some point during the run, which runs up the clock for any corrective action. Now we wouldn't say we have excessively large hands, but the native controller layout scheme is clearly designed around someone with extremely small hand dimensions. It might be a great game if you use a hand controller or if the developers made some modifications or, better yet, allowed individualized customizable controller layouts, but as it is, we are taking a break from this game, as it is too frustrating to attempt to play to one's full potential due to the failures of the control scheme.
Before deleting the game we had around 20gb system data but after deleting the game the system data ramped up to 70gb.
Please make a better way to download the game data we download about 6 times and its go back from the start of download.
Incredible that this title can run on a phone! There are major, game breaking bugs that need to be ironed out. Whether that is choppy frames, random freezing, or consistent crashing. The most frustrating bug is making it to the second zone, maintenance, and being unable to progress further. This is due to crashing when entering areas required for progression, menus not opening and causing the game to freeze. We are incredibly dissatisfied, we just want to be able to play the game. Hoping they can fix these issues quickly! IPhone 15 Pro Max.
We own this game on PC and was intrigued to see that it was available on Apple devices, particularly iPhone. After trying things out, not even messing with the settings, we play the game for a bit, it gets stuck and wont load for us to play properly. Im running the latest hardware, so dont know why this is happening.
Great game! We get a common bug where the touch to start to enter the main menu at the beginning is unresponsive and only fix is to restart our phone.
Amazing game Remedy now bring Alan Wake we and II. Gorgeous game especially with Rayneo glasses.
Crashes when trying to start game . Edit: Fixed in latest update and this game is great.
This is beyond words. Our mind cant comprehend how this game is playing this well on our iPad mini. We literally catch ourselves just admiring this game in particular, which used to choke our pc, running so well on a device this thin and small. Highly recommended but with a controller.
Its insane how console/pc ports are at the tips of our fingers anywhere we go now a days it performs extremely well. Great job Remedy with optimizing the game but we need a saving across devices featureOverall extremely satisfied with the game.
Cant believe one of our fav game came to iphone. We have played on Xone, seriesX and now playing on iphone brings back all the memories. Playing with controller we were skeptical about touch control, but Remedy made it surprisingly good interface even for touch based control. Hope we could max out graphics, but only so much chip on a phone can do.
Plz fixed this problem as quick as you can, thx.
A top tier port of an already outstanding game from Remedy. Runs like a charm on both our iPad Pro and our iPhone 15 Pro Max. Adjustable graphics and sensitivity settings to make this exceptionally mobile friendly. Our one and only issue worth mentioning to players and devs alike is that the touch controls are non configurable (we.e. You cannot move or resize any buttons) so without a controller you may find this to get progressively more difficult as you advance through the game on a thumb friendly but not claw friendly touch layout. Otherwise, fantastic port.
