Description

June 6th, 1944. D-Day is the Allied operation that launched the successful liberation of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II.

In Frontline: The Longest Day, players command the Allied forces through some of the most famous battles of the war, freeing Europe from the hands of the German Army. The game takes place over five massive, engaging and challenging missions, all inspired by historical missions which took place during operation Overlord: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Cherbourg, Sword & Juno.

Players are faced with tough decisions and will have to think through the options to take advantage of terrain, use their combat techniques wisely and make sure they leverage the special ability of each unit to overcome the enemy and get Europe back in safe hands.

FEATURES

Land, and aerial combat: all units have strengths and weaknesses encouraging different uses, adding an extra strategic layer to the game. There are over 80 of them!

Units will upgrade throughout the game, based on combat success and experience. This will prove to be an extremely powerful tool to progress in the game providing the players with a personalized army depending on their style of play.

Complex combat mechanics and special abilities for all units such as: Flanking manoeuvres, encirclements, suppression, combat fatigue, penetration, deflection, removing landmines, artillery support, airstrikes, transport, sandbags, march, APCR ammunition, incendiary grenades, smoke grenades, artillery barrages, reinforce & resupply.

Frontline : The Longest Day Reviews

Glitches here and there, but overall solid game.

We bought this game just to say… Bring all Close Combat games to iOS! We will buy them all! Total War Rome came to iOS, so the tech is there to allow CC to work. We bought Firefight which is a clone 9 of CC, but AI is not good enough! Bring a real PC game to iOS! Close Combat!!!!!

Loved its predecessor, and this seems even better. Huge battles. Sort of like a "lite" version of Panzer Corps, but with good differentiation between various kinds of infantry, armor, artillery, and air. Maps are more historical this time, though force composition is still quite flexible and objective driven, i.e. You have to capture towns to get more resources. AI is tough enough, though Game Center would be awesome. For a good, smooth-playing operational wargame, this is one of the best. (Much prefer over Hunted Cow stuff.) Only downside is like people have pointed out, no rules included! But Frontline:Moscow has good documentation, try that first. Well worth it. Update: removed a star due to buggy performance. Will restore if update fixes problems, esp. The re-appearing mines! 2nd update: another star removed for unfixed bugs. Could not finish a scenario due to bugs (a unit that can’t be killed), so was not able to make it more than halfway through the game.

Horribly bugged. Very frustrating. Do not buy.

We think the games concept is great but theres alot of flaws in the game first when we buy a unit on the first mission and put it in a little water area it stays in the landing craft and fights on land another thing is the game doesnt have a save so if your in the middle of a fight and leave you have to restart the games mechanics are weird and Im still learning how to supply our troops the music doesnt fit in at all with the scenario and we cant know the name of the enemy units or have a little information button on there which isnt important but plays a nice role in the game for people who may not know alot on WW2 another thing is we cant play as the Axis which would be fun we think if you had a choice between playing the Allies or the Axis like with Burning Bridges which is made by a completly different company but still its a cool little feature also we would like to buy flame throwers but they arent an option which kind of frustrates us because they are great against bunkers and Im tired of sending Riflemen to die or buy 5 tanks to take on one bunker because the bunker is being supported our Artillery and and machine guns we hope you can remake a better game and add new things so the games for fun like a sandbox mode where you can add troops to defend and pick your side we think that would be fun and the maps would already be made thank you for reading our review and we hope you can make better games in the future.

When we click on the manual to learn how to play the game we get an ad to date Ukrainian women. A manual would sure help in understanding the game. As it is you kind of just click on units to see what happens. The game does slowly drool out information as you play.

Saving and exiting restores mines and they are not visible don’t buy.

Seemed ok for a couple of days.. Now it wont even open.. Complete waste of money..

We like Slitherline’s games but this one tested the limits of our patience, it is not OK to release a game with so many bugs and expect people to pay for it.

When we play the mission and save it for later. Our units are gone because they are under the cloud and we can’t used them when they are under the cloud. So we had to start all over again.

Can not get past Juno – because can not figure out how to execute March requirement and the stupid simple instructions book is no help at all – fix this, love the game system but the bugs are a disaster disaster.

Very frustrating! Units won’t move at times, can’t figure out how to complete Juno – the third scenario of five – boats won’t turn to units, units simply disappear for no reason. We get close to completing Juno, but then can’t move units as they are supposed to move. Don’t buy this game!

We fell for it again and downloaded after the new update. We’re a sucker. Couldn’t get past second battle due to glitches. First we couldn’t buy units, it would subtract points but never show the new unit. Restarted and that corrected but we couldn’t move some units. Restarted then it crashed after 40 minutes of play (twice) forcing to start all over. Deleted it again….

Terrible glitches galore… Does not save correctly… What were they thinking? TOTAL RIPOFF… STAY AWAY.

Glitches everywhere. Boats don’t turn into units Fog appears after saving March orders won’t work.

Okay, we read the reviews and about the flaws and decided to try it anyway because we were such a fan of Road to Moscow and gave them five stars. Road to Moscow had two very annoying scenarios with known issues that keep you from getting all three achievements, and the developers are yet to fix it. Here games are 80-90 moves so we cant play a whole game and have to save. All the mines come back, some enemy units are sacked and you cant kill them all and many other flaws you can read about from other people… Bottomline, we stomached through the first 2 beaches and quit half way through the 3rd… This game is crap and if they want to release it early, make it free or something… You just lost a loyal customer because not that we care about a $3 game when we drop a couple thousand on a couple of iPads and a couple of iPhones, but we dont want to feel the frustration and waste of time again thinking this game is ready for prime time because you are charge. If its free, and you are honest it has bugs ok, and if this game had been bug free and $10, we would have bought it because we love the concept so much… You screwed up because now we dont trust your brand Slitherine either and will avoid your other games too.

As mentioned, does not even compare with Road to Moscow. Come on Slitherine! We know you guys have better than this in your development skills because we own quite a few of your games and thoroughly enjoy most of them. Maybe a little more time put into this one and you would have another winner on the Western Front?

Can you please remove this garbage from the App Store.

The buggiest game Inhave ever played. We can not believe Slitherine keeps it in the App Store we would like a refund.

We’ve had to restart may times after beating scenarios because of bugs, it’s annoying. Could be a good game but too many issues.

We pulled the trigger on this one after seeing it was a Slitherine game (played Battle Academy on iPad). But our experience was generally poor. Clunky interface. Our finger didn’t get too close to the end turn button while scrolling and it immediately ended our turn without warning (more than once). It generally felt like an unfinished product. That said, we love the art and scenery. We hope a big update is planned.

Slitherine makes some of the best turn based strategy games. We have at least six of them and on a laptop and iPad. Now for this one. It is a bit unresponsive to the touch and slow to load. The third scenario in the campaign will not let you add unit or use aircraft. It will remove the points for the unit but you get no replacement. Needs more work and it will be a good game. Slitherine, you did not do a good beta test on this one. Fix it so it is up to par with your previous game.

Great until the third mission.

The game has potential, but the bugs, constant frozen screens and crashes, and lack of any tutorial or game manual, expose this game for what it currently is–a half-baked game rushed to market. Check back in six months–maybe by then the game will have been patched enough to make it worth playing.

Unless you’ve played the other Slitherine Frontline game, "Road to Moscow," you’re not going to be able to easily figure out what’s going on here. There are neither rules nor tutorial present as far as we can tell.

Game has all sorts of bugs. Particularly will not save games even when conscious attempt is made to do so. Am on 5th attempt @ Juno Beach scenario and am constantly forced to start over. Mines reappear even when cleared, cannot sometimes destroy units adjacent to towns, etc. Loved "Russian Campaign-Road to Moscow". Thought this might be a fun game as well. Has potential. Will revisit when you fix it.

This would get five stars from us without all the bugs. The iPhone version seems to work okay but the iPad version has issues, like in the Gold Beach scenario, you try to bomb a German position and it charges you points but won’t bomb the site. Also can’t add additional units but still charges you points. Needs an automatic save function. If you put your iPad down and your screensaver kicks in, you have to start all over from your last save point. Hopefully new versions will address these issues.

Another undocumented game from the schizophrenic game developer Slitherine.
