A Glimpse into Gin Rummy Offline

Gin Rummy is two-player card game created in 1909. It is played with standard 52-card deck. Each player takes turns drawing from either the deck or discard pile, then discarding one card from their hand. A player’s cards are grouped in two categories: melds and deadwood. Melds are combinations of three or more cards consisting of a straight (3 cards in a sequence of the same suit) of 3 or 4 of a kind (eg: 3 Aces). Any card in a player’s hand that is not a part of a meld counted as deadwood. Your Deadwood count is determined by the sum of the face values of your deadwood (J/Q/K are all 10 points).

Each player takes turns picking up and discarding cards until one player "knocks". A player can only knock when their Deadwood count is below 10 (for Regular Gin Rummy). Then both player’s cards are revealed for the layoff. Points are awarded to the player with the least Deadwood. Bonus points are awarded for having a deadwood of 0 (Gin).

The Deal

  • The dealer alternates between players from hand to hand. The first dealer is picked at random at the start of the game. The dealer deals 10 cards to each player, then reveals the 21st card and moves it to the top of the discard pile.
  • The non-dealing player has the first option of taking the first discard. If the player doesn’t want the card, he can choose to Pass, giving the dealer a change to take it.

Game Play

  • Each turn involves players drawing then discarding a card. The player must first draw a card from either the discard pile or the deck. The player will then either go Gin or discard one of his card to the discard pile.
  • Player takes turn until one of the player either goes gin or knock

Knocking

  • A player can knock once his deadwood count is less than or equal to 10 after the discard. The option to knock must be selected before discarding the card and will only be made available if a knock is possible. A player may also go Gin. A Gin is hand which contains only melds, no deadwood. A Big Gin is and 11-card Gin Determines the deadwood needed to knock. The card is an Ace, the players must go Gin to end the hand. In Straight mode, all hands are played to either Gin of Big Gin.

Layoffs

  • If a player knocks and does not go Gin, The opposing player gets a chance to remove some of their deadwood before scores are counted. Cards that can be added to the knocking player’s melds are not counted as deadwood.

Scoring

  • The winner of the hand is the player with the lowest deadwood count after Layoffs. That player earns the difference between the two deadwoods. Bonuses can also be earned for going Gin and for an Undercut. In Oklahoma, if the upturn card is a Spade, the hands points and bonuses count as double.
  • Aces are worth 1 point, figures (J, Q, K) are worth 10, and other cards are worth their numerical value. In Oklahoma, if the upturn card is a Spade, the hand’s points and bonus count as double.

Undercut

  • An undercut occurs when the knocking player loses the hand. If the opponent has a lower deadwood count, before or after layoffs, that player wins the hand and earns an undercut bonus of 25 points.
  • An undercut occurs when the defending player has a deadwood count lower that or equal to the knocking player.

Features:

  • Multi-language: Supports Hindi, English and Gujarati languages.
  • Beautiful UI and amazing sound effects, to provide you an extraordinary experience.
  • Automatic card arranging, which gives your more freedom to think.
  • Smart drag and drop.

Very fun game, its relaxing and addictive!!!! The ads can be annoying BUT most of them you can close right away !!!!!!!!!!

Love playing Gin Rummy Cant find no one to play it with us around here glad we found it.

A wonderful game to play and pass the time. Great way to continually challenge our mind. Our only issue is the game freezes when we are playing.

A very excellent game to ease down.

Absolutely love this game. We have always played gin online, which most of the time you are playing robots and we always get sucked into spending money. But this gin rummy is gives competition, strategy thinking and goals to make. LOVE it. We do agree with one other review, the set up took a few games to get used to but she should have stuck around. Once you understand it, you really enjoy the way it is set up. FUN GOALS NO MONEY YEAH!!

Why do you constantly ask us to rate you. We gave you a 5 initially. Ridiculous.

Good game… Keeps asking us to rate, we do and same thing next day… Rate this game… Enough already! Ok so once again we have been asked to rate… Next time its one star… If you stop we will give all stars.

It is recording them in the achievement section to get credit after watching a total of 100.

Our rating is because it doesnt group your cards together like most.

We have big gin on our bar but it stays yellow it wont turn green and we can not figure out how to turn ur green.

Can’t figure it out!! Instructions??

We had three A’s and it would not let us group them together. Same game we has three fours. Same thing.

We choose this one to be able to play offline. We dont have good cell service at home. It crashes when we are offline. Cards seem to repeat after they are have been played.

We started playing Gin Rummy as a diversion from boredom while recouping from an injury. We downloaded this version and promptly deleted it. It just made no sense to us from the start. Not the game itself but the complicated setup. Im sure if we took the extra time to figure it out but this is a gin rummy game for Petes sake. Do we want to waste time figuring that out? No. Already wasting time playing the game so at least we want an uncomplicated version so we can get to the game and play. We downloaded another version which is so incredibly simple and fun but the ads are terrible! Is there not a balance here somewhere? We dont mind paying a small one time fee not to put up with ads. Simple and drop the excess ads guys.
