The game is good but desperately needs better AI and for the expansions to be a one time fee. Good to get some hive experience though.
Paying monthly for the expansion tiles is a ripoff and the game AI is too simple to beat w/o them that it's almost not even fun. 1.5/5.
Love the game. We wish there was more options and difficulty levels.
It is rough around the edges. The 0.99 cent monthly subscription is silly and we would certainly rather pay a one time fee. The AI is laughably easy, and there is no game analysis functionality. The tournament rules option is a nice touch but no one practicing for a tournament would play on an app which doesnt have game analysis functionality. We understand the developer is working on it. Im excited to see more features and a different approach to monetization in future updates.
The base game app is quite adequate for $1, but a subscription for the expansion pieces is not acceptable we would happily buy the expansion, but we will not deal with another subscription that we have to manage canceling when we drop actively playing the game.
Thanks for bringing this fantastic game to iOS – there were no good AI options before this app. That being said, we have a few feature suggestions that would turn this app from ok to fantastic. These are all in a similar Android app: A confirmation button before ending your turn An exit button available after each game A Next match option after finishing a game Different AI difficulty levels Ability to choose black or white A Statistics screen (wins, losses, etc) A dark mode A playable tutorial.
Honestly one of our favorite games but there is an attempt at a subscription model here. We saw that and was honestly so disappointed. You dont get the whole game for 1$. You then have to pay 1$ monthly to play the way you want to. Just a massive bummer.
Pill bug still moves pieces when it has a beetle on top of it.
Game play is great! Excellent adaptation of Hive. Needs option to play AI/Computer opponents and better online public game options (list of games available).
The extension pieces (the way to make the game interesting) are a subscription and therefore not worth it. Yall could make the extension piece 3 bucks and if probably buy it, but if its just gonna passively consume our money and be a crappy app, then theres no point. Really fun game, but this app is not on par.
A group downloaded this game so we could play still. Unable to create or join matches.
We are sorry but this is a really weak digital version of a great physical game. The graphics looks like done by a child, the interface so choppy. Dont waste time here. Go buy the real game for some real fun. 2 stars for the effort.
Tried to set up an online private game and keep getting data errors. Sad, because we love it.
They have an online mode but there is never anyone on the server and when it says there is the button doesnt work to join. Can only play this with friends in person or who also have the game.
Do not download unless you want to play with some one in person. In that case just buy the physical game and support the creators.
Crashes immediately on our iPad mini. Wont open.
Theres no ai, so cant be played single-player, and the expansion has a monthly fee of $.99/month/piece. Id buy the game, but am not paying a monthly fee to play.
The developer(s) of this game are shady. The expansion pack is a subscription??? Because we pay a monthly fee for the actual expansion pack IRL right.

Got this cause we fell in love with Hive after a friend brought it over once. Great game to play in the car with someone for long road trips.
Cannot play against computer . Basically useless.
Online function never works, and you cant play against an AI.
Wish more people played this and it was more well known.
