Killer Sudoku + – Puzzle Game Review
![]()
Killer Sudoku + is a Puzzle game from James Gibbs, first launched in 25th October 2014.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 296+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Killer Sudoku + Stand Out
Killer Sudoku is a fun and challenging variant of Sudoku. If you love Sudoku, why not give Killer Sudoku a try?
As with Sudoku, the objective of Killer Sudoku is to fill the grid with the numbers 1 to 9 such that each row, column and nonet (3×3 group of cells) contains each number only once. In addition, a Killer Sudoku grid is divided into cages, shown with dashed lines. The top-left corner of each cage shows the sum of the numbers within it. The same number cannot appear more than once in a cage.
There are ten puzzles included for free, and thousands available for download. The puzzles are graded into difficulty levels, all excellent quality and with a unique solution.

Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
Its everything we could ask for to play Sudoku. No ads, nothing done in the background so you can play offline, and a huge variety of games for just a couple bucks. Absolutely love it.
Love this game and the user interface is very fast and intuitive once you get used to it. It would have been 5 stars+ if it had the ability to colorize squares individually.
When you undo something or many things it is hard to find what was undone – we would like to see highlighting added to what was undone or even just allow to undo the undone. It would be nice to highlight different colors (9 colors) however the players wanted to use highlights.
We have tried several killer sudoku app and like this one the best generally. But we wish it would have some features such as game statistics (average completion times, number of hints used, number of error checks, etc). Id also like to be able to sort games by completion time so that we could try to beat our old times on harder games.
This is actually an app version of our favorite Killer Sudoku website. Most of the same features that make that the greatest website are present here, too, including: 1. Unique solutions every time! 2. Puzzle packs available for purchase at every level, including our level, the highest one, Extreme. 3. Most puzzles we've purchased are symmetrical, which is our preference. An exception is 100 Extreme Killer Sudokus #2. 4. The timer can be turned off. We never want our Killer Sudokus timed! 5. Pencil marks available, using the same keyboard. 6. An ability to check what's been entered, looking at the whole board. Unlike some other Killer Sudoku apps, it does not show in red a number that can't be correct based on what has already been entered, which we consider to be very distracting, even though some may consider it helpful. 7. The ability to toggle between showing the numbers in entry sequence or number sequence. Although we have given this one a 5-star rating, there is still room for improvements, mainly along the lines of settings that are present in the web version but not here: 1. Remember that the timer has been turned off between games. 2. Turn off Undo includes cage combinations. 3. If playing on an iPad with a Bluetooth external keyboard, an option to use hardware keyboard entry instead of the app-specific onscreen keyboard. And one more request – Can we please have a version for Android? We have both an iPad and an Android phone, and we'd love to play this on both devices.
Tried it on our iPhone and iPad and neither will let us down load the extra puzzles. Whats more, it tells us there is an error and will not let us cancel it. So we have to delete the app every time and reload it again. Good games, but useless app.
Enjoying this Killer Sudoku app. Wish it had a pause button and would highlight duplicate numbers.
Been playing for a while now. Game would benefit from someway to denote all the squares of a number have been placed.
Enjoyable, puzzles are mostly moderat to easy.
Easy to use app and lots of puzzle pack options for a fair price. However there are a handful of puzzles that do not have a unique solution. Frustrating enough to drop a star from the rating.
Im sort of addicted to this app. Killer Sudoku is a pretty complicated game, requiring the player to keep track of many possibilities. This app provides a lot of useful aids. For each cage, the app provides all the sets of numbers that are possible for it, and you can uncheck sets as you eliminate them as possibilities as you go along. You can, of course, enter possible numbers as notes in each square, or across a selection of squares. You can select more than one cage and the app will automatically tell you the sum of all its squares. Theres also a calculator that allows you to enter an arbitrary cage size, and it tells you all the possible combinations. There arent very many killer sudoku apps on the App Store (we know of two for certain), but this is easily the best one. It offers many sets of puzzles as in-app purchases, in a wide range of difficulties; since the harder puzzles have lots of replay value (unless you have perfect memory, we suppose), then a few of these purchases will last you a long time.
The controls are bad for a sudoku game. Also there are only 10 free puzzles and no random puzzles.
The app only includes 10 puzzles. More puzzles can be purchased for $0.99 a pack. Lots of ad supported versions out there. Ill use one of those.
We've been playing the web version for months. We finally bought an iPhone and the first app we downloaded was this. Challenging puzzles and great use of filtering combos to narrow down options.
We tried one of the puzzles and it is a little confusing to start with as there is no obvious note taking. We realized that we just keep putting in numbers and that's how it does it. But then when we figure out which number should be there, we have to go through the ordeal of deleting every number that we don't need. We would also like the addition of a calculator and the option to add numbers into multiple squares at once. It would make game play much faster and less frustrating. The puzzles seem pretty good though.
10 free puzzles is ok, but this app lacks options found in others like multi-cell selection for filling in cell possibilities / adding multiple cage values, rainbow coloring to make the cages easier to differentiate, and a calculator.
This app contains NO puzzles. You have to purchase ever single one. It is misleading to list it as a free app since you're any do anything without paying.
