In spite of you picking a beginner level, it really isnt. Its very difficult to progress but not impossible. On the other hand, it also doesnt mind resorting to cheating. Although Im self-taught, we know dang well that a king with two empty spaces beside it & nothing to capture around it cannot trade places with its rook two spaces to the right & somehow they both end up in the middle of those two empty spaces. You cant just make up rules! Even if its in our favor, we dont like that. Im not a cheat!
Mission 1-10 has a puzzle that endlessly restarts itself when solved, so we cant go any further. Also, there are messages that are displayed at the beginning of each mission, but theyre shown so briefly that they cant be read in time before theyre gone. This is a great game with a lot of potential. Its new (so theres bound to be problems) and Chess. Com is really busy with their server upgrades, but we hope these and other bugs are fixed soon.
We ended up stuck on a puzzle with no solution. We attempted all plausible moves, and found no solution. We then attempted EVERY available move and no solution. We used a power up to tell us the best move, still no solution. We emailed them with the chess notation and got no assistance beyond an autogenerated email. It was enjoyable for the one day we got to play.
This is an cool chess app thats slowly taking over our life and becoming our #1 way to play. Still some things to be added and smoothed out, but its a way more fun, lighthearted way of playing than other stuffy chess apps.
Overall fun game, but annoying to make progress. Progress is limited mostly by Tower level, which requires opening scrolls. Scrolls are opened when you analyze a game, which is fine, but the scrolls themselves are very limited. Theres not a lot of info in app that explains the functionality, but as far as we can tell, the only way to get scrolls is to wait 9+ hours at a time. That means waiting days at a time before you can upgrade anything else or make any progress in the game.
First of all, its impossible to make progress. We have been waiting 2 weeks just to upgrade our castle for the first time, and there is no way of telling how to gain scrolls to upgrade your tower, they just come at random. Secondly, apparently the game lets you make illegal moves, like castling through check. We guess this is why Lichess is better than chess. Com, because at least they know the rules of the game.
