Community Insight:
Really happy to have found a game like bookworm! We missed it so much. Im hoping that you can add some more flame tiles, they get very less in the high levels. Thanks.
Enjoying the game. Just completed all the library categories. Will it reset and give you new words to find.
About as good a replacement for Bookworm as one could expect. One question – What is the yellow bar under the letter box with the almost always increasing number next to it.
Like others, we found this app while desperately trying to fill the void that was left by bookworm after it vanished off the App Store. Im happy to say that it does just that! Though theres a couple of wonky things Ive noticed while Ive been playing. The most severe and weirdest, was having our game end really abruptly about 250k points in. There was one fire tile at the top, and when we cleared that it just gave us the game over panel and prompted us to restart. We still have no idea why, but it was frustrating because we had 8 green tiles and 4 blue tiles on the board that we were stock piling. Also this is a minor gripe, but we think there should be a two letter word exception for Qi. Having just a Q fire tile (and not a qu) is almost certainly a game ender unless you scramble until you get a u beside it. Being able to use Qi would balance that we think. Last, also minor critique, but we feel like the play area could be a bit larger. Theres a lot of extraneous stuff on the screen that squishes it down (like letter wizard being at the top and the art wizard being large at the bottom). This is especially an accessibility issue on SE devices where the screen space is much smaller. Measuring it on our screen, the playable area is about 1.35 x 1.35 inches maximum. We feel like other comments address other quality of life issues fairly well, though! In any case, Im not meaning to totally harp on this app – we love it! But with some improvements it could truly be great.
Ive been looking for a bookworm clone ever since it lost Apple app support. This is a very good replacement. We wish you could double tap the last letter of a word to submit it though. Its a little thing that greatly improves the game experience.
We started playing this game today. We like it, but we have a few issues with it. First of all, when you have a really good tile like a blue tile and a burning tile comes down and you havent used it yet, it will immediately come down and cover the blue tile. In Bookworm, it would wait a few seconds before taking away the blue tile but in this game it doesnt. Secondly, a lot of words we question if they are real words. And we dont think abbreviations should be used, like DEC for December etc. And thirdly, there are just too many burning tiles that come down. Theres hardly ever a time when you just have a clear board with no burning tiles.
This is an entertaining app – it would be better though if the dev stuck to a FORMAL and accepted dictionary of words. We have come across too many instances where the app gave us points for a word that was simply NOT a word (like, cen and coe). Also, the red tiles are too much. Bookworm threw these at you too, but this app sometimes keeps dumping red tiles for 5 – 10 minutes, and you spend most of your time at the top 20% of the screen. (If red tiles reach bottom, you lose).
Love the concept of this game, but the execution falls short. Graphics are basic and remind us of a 70's video game. When trying to highlight letters, they are not always picked up the first, second or even third try. We are having to use a stylus to help pickup tiles. Even then, not all are being captured. Makes playing this game very difficult. We look forward to watching this game evolve. It has a lot of potential. Good thing it is free now as we would definitely be getting a refund otherwise.
We added a friend and neither one of us can figure out how to join togetherno indicators.
After the meter fills up for red letters they drop more or less constantly. Seems like a bug was introduced in the last month or two.
Really great puzzle game with challenging features. Natural controls. Perfect game.
We miss Bookworm so much and we were super excited to finally find a game thats almost the same. We enjoy playing this game a lot. Just a few things Ive noticed so far: our bonus word is SUQ but there are only Qu tiles so it looks like Ill never get the bonus word. We wish the letter was just Q. Plus there are other words that have Q in them without U right after. Secondly, we liked in bookworm how you could tap the last letter of the word you created to submit it, rather than having to hit submit at the top. Our last note is that we just miss our little worm friend. But Im sure thats a copyright issue. :) Overall, awesome game.
This is the closest to Bookworm that Ive tried so far. Its not bad. Really wish we didnt have to hit submit at the top of the screen for ever word. It would be nice if we could drag and release to submit.
This game is great and we sometimes play it for hours at a time (it can get addictive). We like word games but we havent found many like this. We like being able to search for as many words as you want (unlike word search games). Theres a good amount of strategy involved to align letters to make longer words, which is a fun challenge. The texting abbreviations category is fun too. Oh and no ads which is awesome.
