Community Insight:
The game is very addicting. The different levels and bags to choose give lots of playtime. No ads!! There some bugs at times but overall runs smooth. They keep updating which we dont understand the new bricks and blanks we dont think we needed them we were happy with coins or gems.
This is our favorite word game out of the many apps Ive tried over the years. Its complex yet intuitive and has a wide variety of difficulty settings and items to unlock. Really awesome concept and very addicting once you figure out your strategy. We would love to give 5 stars but it has a few major bugs. The achievements for completing difficulty levels and bags do not unlock, even when we have clearly completed them. Also, we have completed all 3 card unlocks for circular, palindrome, alphabetical, and reverse alphabetical but the corresponding bags are still locked. Its really disappointing because we would love to complete all the achievements and unlock all the bags. We hope they fix this issue soon and we would gladly change our review to 5 stars – seriously, this is our favorite word game app.
Spend 20 minutes getting to the final round only to have the boss nerf all of your perks and leave you with one word to complete the run. Hang in there, it gets better.
We need more people to dominate and humiliate (think of us like one of the in game characters but real) now please play the daily sweethearts so we can beat you all!! Great game, been playing pretty much since day 1 when dev shared release news on Reddit. Brand new update looks promising blocks and shinys.
Great premise, Balatro meets Scrabble, no regrets buying it, but it still feels very much alpha early release. We were deep into a run and played HAIRPIN, playing this word somehow knocked our points down to 0 for that round. We thought maybe there were some card dynamics that had worked against us, but we check our cards and nothing. The word we played did not even give us a single point and we lost with 0 points.
Very fun and more interesting than the typical word games in the app store. Nice to play a game without being bombarded with ads and microtransaction. Some feedback for the dev: 1) there is a bug in the score calculation when you have multiple consecutive bricks. The points are different if you place one brick vs if you place two bricks then remove one despite one brick in both 2) the final stage conditions could use some balancing. The double points one is way harder than many of the others 3) the game flow after a win doesn't make a lot of sense. What is the point of sending back to the normal store and offering tile based rewards when there are no more stages. It's also a bit weird that you are more rewarded when you lose (access to the special store) than when you win (no special store).
A very fun game that takes clear inspiration from Balatro but is more than unique enough with its mechanics to stand alone as a separate game. Ive had no bugs or issues with the gameplay and we think the upgrade mechanics are very well done. Our English professor showed us this game, so shoutout Mr. Pride.
We only just got the game but we love the concept, we loved balatro and we love word games. The game would really benefit from a good soundtrack, and for us at least, the UI and menus just feel confusing and not as intuitive as we had hoped. Other than that its great and we hope its development continues.
Tough to be compared to Balatro, but youre kind of asking for it. Far less variety of buffs and opportunity to discover synergy between them. Base difficulty is quite easy. And Ive just found ourselves scoring NaN points each word until we ran out and failed the run. Nice concept, and fun for at least a few hours. Dont regret the purchase, but we dont see ourselves getting hooked on it either.
Great port of Balatros classical elements into the Scrabble world. If you like Balatro and Scrabble at the same time, this is the game for you. Takes a few rounds to get used to the game mechanism and connect the dots with corresponding strategies in Balatro, but overall very good game! One feedback would be more diamonds on each run otherwise unlocking all elements will be like forever.
Super fun game!! Its really cool to see how far this app has come since just a couple of months ago. We cant wait to see where it goes from here.
Love this game so much already, but it is quite difficult in the beginning. Ive put in quite a few hours and yet to beat the starter bag. Also you should change it so when you can pick a reward you can somehow read about what they are. Some of them we dont know what they are and we pick them hoping itll pop up a screen explaining what they are but instead it just picks them. Thank you for making this! Its great.
Incredibly fun, complex but inviting. Bopping music. Nothing but good things to say about. Does take some getting used to but once you do, its a ton of fun.
Ive been playing this game since the very early days and its been wonderful seeing the dev respond to feedback. We think our big thing was dark mode in the beginning, and it seemed like once we said something it was added almost overnight. Crazy! We will definitely be picking up Letterlike on Steam too. Thanks for adding cloud saves for cross platform support! Really appreciate all your work on this unique and amazing game.
Youll love this game if you enjoy Scrabble, Balatro, or Both.
Hello, we were wondering if you can make some games. For example, we were wondering if you can make some trivia games or possibly if you can can you please add a daily gift pack to wear you get lives every day somehow or something like that and also if you can, can you please also add point tripler where are you triple the points what we mean by that is when you triple the points For example ranges from 600. Itll go all the way to 2400 points something like that. Also, instead of having people go to the homepage when they miss and they dont beat the score. We were wondering if you could also have people use the gems that they have so that way they can Revive their game. Thank you so much. Have a great day.
Im updating our review to be five stars. Thank you, developer, for your recent reply about a bug we experienced where it showed a target score of zero and then wouldnt let you beat it. We redownloaded the game to give it another try, and it seems to be working fine now. That must have just been some weird glitch. This is a great game for a great price, with no ads or IAP. We appreciate the small file size and that it saves progress too. Im thankful for good indie developers who produce a good product and monetize fairly. We recommend this game, its one of the best word games out there. And we love the minimalistic design and all the options in settings. Thank you.
This game is incredible! Very similar to Balatro but with a new premise! Endless hours of fun and extremely addictive. The developer is also extremely open to feedback and constantly making the game better. Give it a shot, its worth it.
Quickly became one of our favorite games to play. Its easy to pick up and play for a while throughout your day. The different paths you can take through a run keep it interesting, and the more you play the easier it becomes. But, you can always change your upgrades and make it more difficult again. Cant wait to see how the game grows and develops.
Its what it says in the title. You need to have an extensive vocabulary while also playing a rougelike.
Very fun and addictive, but you can put the game down and go back to where you left off if you possess self-control. Randomized level challenges keep the game fresh and frustratingly fun. We finally beat the base difficulty starter game. Cant wait to try the other challenges.
TL,DR: Buy it! Its good. Paid for it, while being skeptical- Instant Love Speaking as a game designer ourselves in VR and a gamer. Ive been ineffectual with the traditional spelling games. Ive played majority of them since spell tower, wordsmyth, well word, knot words, letter press, word+ (the Disney word battler game) we can go on.. Unfortunately, they pushed us away with their (locked) constraints of not allowing us to use more words via lack of how the mechanics were designed, which in our opinion, negated avenues of how.. Us the player.. Can express how wed like to approach a given situation presented by the challenge. Avenues can only be present, if it was designed into the mechanics. And for that, the base mechanic (holding the observable constraints) would also have subset mechanics designed within, to allow the player.. Various approaches of how theyd like to express their interaction onto the given moment, and in return the player feels like they earned the opportunity (which they did) to expand past the base constraints, because they took the time to understand the mechanics. This to us, is where Letterlike shines. For us, it opens up the window.. We see dimensions outside.. Soo many possibilities/permutation and emergence with this one. Once we grasp the mechanics, we envision us getting creative and performing combos, almost akin to engine deck builders like: Race for the Galaxy, Dominion, Ascension, Hero Realms, (which we are a huge fan & gamer of) but here, instead of spells & space ships.. Lexicon is the interactivity of the arena. Which is not only fun because how its expressed in the brilliant design of this game, but simultaneously it exercises our verbal communication for when we engage our fellow human. Win/Win From a gameplay perspective.. This sparks such huge potential in the word genre. We played balatro, we get the charm of it.. But it never infected us, the way it has so many we guess Im not into poker. But we immediately grasped its addictive quality just from coming out the mechanics. But it couldnt affect us as much because the theme is poker, and we dont have interest in poker. But when Letterlike, replacing poker with letters and words, now Im infected the way balatro has done to many. Dear Dev.. Please put up some YouTube videos and get more exposure (on the gameplay).. We checked YouTube and found none when we searched: Letterlike iOS Review Letterlike gameplay the price of the game is small, so we took a chance, but unfortunately, majority wont, so please get some gameplay footage out there. A Summary Breakdown of this beautiful Orchestra: easy to pick up & play game, carries strong get you addicted qualities. Beautiful UI very fluid and responsive – snappy! Catchy and wonderful soundtrack Trash talking Ai (we liiike it!) we saw someone complain about it over on iOS review, but we like it. Elegant UX, simplistic.. Not overly done: (tap this – to do that, then go here, and tap that) none of that here! Simplicity which facilitates.. Play anywhere, no concentric efforts with UX – just the concentric challenge of mechanics, letters & words (which is what you are here for). Dear dev.. You have a banga here, let it bake some more within the customers, supporters, and hopefully well get more expansions after sometime being out in the wild.
Fun card game with tons of replay ability.
A fun little Indy roguelite that feels very similar to balatro but for word building instead of poker. It doesnt have the polish of larger studio games, but that just adds to its charm. We think there is room for continued growth and we look forward to seeing what the dev does with updates and feedback.
Nicely challenging but there are many ways to stack buffs to get a win! Definitely a great game to play in short bursts through the day.
Really fun game, makes you rack your brain for words to come up with. Has a cool game loop with a sweet upgrade system and shop to buy stuff. Its challenging and makes you think which is a good thing. Also fun for short sessions if you want something to kill a little time vs doom scrolling on social media. Looking forward to see what the updates do for the game later on. Def Plan on playing it a lot more. Ive been struggling towards the final round to hit the word score. But practice makes perfect ha! Definitely recommend it.
The game is so much fun. The developer continues to update the game with new challenges and different ways to improve your word scores. Highly recommended.
We are really enjoying this game right now! Ive sunk a lot of hours into it already. If your a fan of word games youll like this a lot. Hats off to the developer.
This is a very good word game, maybe the best in the App Store. There is another similar game but we think this game is slightly better and is less expensive. Nice Job.
Roguelike is a favorite Indy game genre of ours, and we always love seeing something new pop up. This one ticks all the boxes – and it's almost TOO hard, but that's what we love about Roguelike. We've played maybe 25 games and have yet to beat it. We're excited to see how the game evolves. Hats off to you Ronald.
Scrabble meets Balatro. A promising idea, but falls short of its inspiration. Here are some of the issues we think need addressing: 1. No deck-building mechanics. You start with the standard scrabble bag and you keep it the entire run. A method to obtain more blanks and stack the deck in your favor is an obvious solution, but we admit this is tougher to implement with scrabble. We know there are other starter bags but Ive yet to unlock one for reasons Ill discuss later. 2. Some of the modifiers (Jokers) are essentially not viable due to boss mechanics. Every time Ive tried to use a +LS/discard build, Ive inevitably run into a boss that takes all of your discards (and 2 words on top of that??) which is an instant loss. There is no way to avoid this except to get lucky. 3. It is impossible to win when you first start. The games roguelike progression is locked behind the acquisition of gems, which you acquire by clearing rounds. You will be very lucky to get 5 in a game at the start and the first upgrade to unlock another (Joker) slot costs 25. We do not think it is mathematically possible to beat the lowest difficulty out of the gate. This is a major design flaw. 4. Continuing from 3, the game is harder and slower than balatro (much more thinking required) but the grind is longer and less rewarding. When we spend 30 minutes on a run that ends not even halfway to a win and Im rewarded with 5 gems, we do not feel good. You should be given the tools to win from the start (given sufficient skill), and grinding should serve to expand mechanics and strategies rather than allow you to finally win on the lowest difficulty by incrementing numbers.
Well thought out, fun to play, lots of replayability. Great purchase.
Just got the game Friday and its already become our go to game when we have free time and our phone. Super easy to get started playing but the difficulty is definitely there once you get goin. Cant recommend it enough.
We love the combination of the classic rouguelike experience combined with the long term progressions with the gems. Having lots of fun with the game.
Having a grand ol time playing this gem. Our partner and we love scrabble in all its variations so its great to see one that combines roguelike mechanics. Clear inspirations from Balatro but its a good thing, since the mechanics work so well with scrabble and its inherent point system. Kindly received a code from the dev to give it a try but buying a copy for our partner for Xmas to support em.
Ive always been a fan of Scrabble and roguelikes, but never really had anyone to play Scarbble with. This game scratches that itch and is super fun and easy to understand! Keep up the great work.
This is fun and addictive! Its become our new obsession. Makes you think and strategize, cant stop playing this.
If you enjoyed Balataro this hits the same spot. Love the rogue-like mechanics and progression system. Such a great value for how cheap it is.
We've been playing this game for about an hour and we're in love with the concept! We really pile the upgrade system where they're not "permanent", as we find this to be very forgiving and allow for different tactics unlike other games. However, we think some of the "finals" can be unforgiving and the jump from 2-3k points to 10k to be a little much early game. On its way.
Perfect game with a mix of puzzle and forming words, good developer – looking forward to seeing the game grow even more.
We really all enjoying this word game quite a bit thus far. Having the buffs and multipliers adds an extra level of challenge and fun to the classic word game we think. We got pretty far in one play-through. Im not sure that we fully understand the shop, though. We buy the diamonds sometimes. But we dont particularly understand what they are being used for or going towards? If we buy enough am we then able to open up some of the locked slots for the special powers? We hope thats what is going on? We wish that there was a little more explanation about the shop please. Thank you. Overall, though, Im extremely happy with our purchase and we believe Ill be playing this title a lot. As an avid word game enthusiast this game ranks quite high up among the greats in our opinion. Many thanks to the developer for creating and offering such an enjoyable experience and God bless. IPhone 13 Pro Max/ iOS 18.1.1 Reply to Developer Response: Thank you so much for getting back to us (so quickly too) and letting us know how to use the diamonds that we buy. We appreciate that so very much. And just, again, thank you so much for creating and offering one of the best word games Ive ever played. We havent had this much fun in a word game in forever. Its nice to have a different approach, a unique one at that, and challenge to this genre of games. Thanks a bunch.
The AI characters in this game that you play against keep up a steady stream of trash talk, and its just annoying. Every time you start a game, these opponents tell you to get used to losing, and if you do win, you get some equally snarky comment like, It wont happen again. It turns a fun time waster into another unpleasant online interaction, and we get enough of that every day.
This is a clever word game. Our only issue is that it is too easy. After unlocking one or two extra letters and one item slot Ive cleared every run (including the extra bonus round). There is a rerun+ version thats tougher, but you cant earn gems on those runs so you cant make progress this way.
We love word games especially new and thought out ones, and we like this one except it pisses us off when Im on a roll and then we get two words to make 33000 points. Thats not even possible unless you have all the tile slots filled and then maybe, maybe youll have a chance. Its just rigged to a point you cant go any further no matter what and we really dont see the purpose of playing against someone else. The only time theyre relevant is at the end of the round, you dont even know what the other player is doing to know how to compete against them. Youre just playing against the score and letters they give you. Another thing thats upsetting is Ill trade in 2 os and a T and Ill get two os and an a. Like come on are you even trying to be random.
Ive been having a lot of fun with this game since we downloaded it today. Its rare you get a game that manages to be addictive without a bunch of predatory ads and micro-transactions trying to profit off that addictiveness! Its been wonderful to play while Im sick at home :).
Great game. Please make an iPad version!!! Thank you.
Its Balatro meets scrabble! Its a fun concept and well executed.
We really like this word game. Its a good challenge.
Word scrambling + roguelike at just the right amount to reward and frustrate. Youll need to strategize when to go for diamonds or when to help your score, so youll be sucked in for a good while.
This game is super addictive and awesome.
