  • Special training zone for first-time-online players.
  • Online campaign – the core feature.
  • Pass n Play.
  • Full replay for online matches.
  • Competitive ELO like leaderboards.
  • Manual, tutorial, help video.
  • Universal app.
  • In-game video recoding for newer devices.
  • 4 round ‘Mingle Phase’ before deciding on who you want to play online.
  • Just ‘Friendly Pass’ with those not suitable for your first battles. It’s the ideal system for great match-ups.

Musket Smoke is a tactical online turn based war game. It supports both single player and multi player but the competitive asynchronous matches are the primary focus.

The board game design was ‘inspired by’ Napoleonic warfare but streamlines it to be fast and furious, optimized for online play.  This is a ‘people first’ war game with a focus on usability and visually rich tactical options.

What people are saying about Musket Smoke:

(US) “Hands down the most fun game I have played on the iPad period. I’m a sucker for historical wargames and musket smoke is one of the best I have played virtual or otherwise. I enjoy it so much, I plan on making some chits and buying a hex board to play it on table top!”

(Canada) “One of the best strategy titles available for the iPad. Immense amounts of strategy, replayability and detail. One of the few must have titles of strategy gamers”

(Ireland) “This is the first game that have regularly played online matches. While the mechanics are quite simple, you can really get yourself into to some interesting situations, especially when playing the campaign.”

(Australia) One night in Naarden.
This game is a blast. The campaign mode will have you on the edge of your seat, whether you’re battling one of the top ten players or a newcomer. Mini matches are great fun, and the variety of armies and tactics is amazing. Even the AI is fun to play against, if you want to learn the game or perfect your strategies. Musket Smoke is a one of a kind game and will forever be in our hearts."

(Croatia) “Real Strategy. Great game for the strategy gamers.”

(Germany) “Seems simple at first glance, but at second glance turns out this game as a strategic, round-based strategy game … Who loves it with his favorite drink in peace weigh all options to try out individual solutions, while relaxing on the couch at sit and then burning it waits his opponent makes his turn, this game is highly recommended !!!”

(Greece) “Fast, easy, deep. recommended!”

(Japan) “This is without a doubt one of the most fun and most polished, with deep strategy, but easy-to-get-into-gameplay turn-based stragegy games around. And the async multiplayer is seamless.”

(Austria) “… show me a better wargame today!”

We love this game. Matches take weeks at a time if theyre good. Consequences are harsh. If you lose you can always rematch and learn more from your opponent. Its a great game of sacrifice or defense. Every unit can survive the battle if you choose or if you really want you can sacrifice one for a greater reward. We purchased the campaign cause we liked this game so much and after purchasing the campaign its really all we play. For those that like action and reaction and thinking about those things before they happen this game is great.

This game is awsome. Play it! It takes getting used to. But once youve learned how it works, the campaigns are extremely fun.

Enjoying the system exactly as advertised. Simple enough but complex in tactics and this game definitely reminds of playing old SPI games in the basement back in the day. One can imagine lots of applications of the system. Hope to see lots more battles and or campaigns. Highly recommended throwback game. A little wonky, but thats cool with us.

Fantastic game. A map editor and an offline campaign mode would be a nice addition.

This game really is great, a fun challenge against other players or the very good AI. Combined arms in the age of flintlocks, pikes, cavalry and cannon. Infantry squares, gore piles, routs. Get it! We want the sequel.

Even the best players will be challenged. Little mistakes can be overcome and learned from although tempting targets will be there to lure you into danger. Risk vs. Reward should be on your mind. The American Civil war buffs will enjoy the similar tactics of game play. Rewarding point system keeps us hungry for scores. The fall back option can alleviate the stress of a poorly managed campaign scenario. The fog of war can be created by the armies themselves and can be tricky for the unwitting. First contact is as unnerving as it should be as you can never tell how creative your opponent will be. Playing is simple yet being cold and calculating will bring the best results. Free to try, inexpensive to buy. This is a well thought out and well put together game Come and see for yourself.

A great game with a simple to understand but still interesting combat system. Its only really worth getting for the expansion pack, and now a days only the best players still play, so its hard to get involved. Still fun even as you lose though, and you can always improve!

Easy to play, hard to master. The community of players is welcoming and the games variable. We would like the designers to develop other games and substantially improve the solo training to better reflect the unpredictability the player will encounter in head-to-head play.

Right up there with Carrier Battles for Guadalcanal (CBFG). We gave MS 4 stars. The developer DID clearly state that MS is a multiplayer game but we were hoping for a decent solo play experience too since there were Tutorials and Solo Training. We were wrong. No joy for solo play so Im deleting MS. As a professional iOS game reviewer wrote recently, developers maybe realizing that there is a big market for solo play games. We dont play MMOs, multiplayer (Not completely true. We did play Doom when it first could use Novell Networks), nor online games. We’ve had way more negative experiences than good ones. Less BS and more enjoyment. The solo play in MS is crippled not giving wind the indicator, etc. (Why remove that (or why leave it in the manual just with lines through it?)) Its the whole page. Just remove it. And no campaigns. We were drooling at the way this game is designed when we dug into the manual. And its our favorite period of warfare history. (I would love to find a tank warfare (local solo play) sim/game with MS level of detail and depth of strategy. The search continues. Add a true solo game feature and Id gladly pay for it as an add on with the great play detail with the multiplayer!

This game has a steep learning curve (but quite good tutorial and practice matches). But as you figure out the nuances, it becomes more and more interesting and challenging. And the community of players is pretty welcoming and helpful in figuring things out. Highly recommended. We haven’t had time to play lately and am just getting back to it – impressed enough again to update our review :)

Heck of a learning curve, but great community support!

One of the best games on iPad hands down, rivals chess, IMO. If you like Napoleonic era war gaming Musket Smoke is a must to try out as the gaming system is very realistic and great fun to play. Additionally, the Naarden campaign is well worth it and offers an added dimension of fog of war and hidden units out of line of sight. Very realistic. There have been several updates to make the game a bit more fair for newcomers. We think they will work out in the end to make an improved MS. Do not be troubled if you do not win your first several campaigns. There are a lot of experienced players who will offer suggestions if asked. Excellent support, already had several questions answered.

We have this on our IPhone and it is the best. We are always looking for games with strategies and old time weapons, ever since then we have been hunting games like this one and guess what?! We are here now and we love it!!!!

One of the most enjoyable game experiences ever! Kill their leader, make them surrender, or keep them from completing the mission. It’s that simple… But it’s much, much more challenging to master. 907bigdogak.

Very addicting, fun strategy game! Can’t stop playing..

We love tactical, hex and counter board war games. Unfortunately, only a few of our friends do too. In person gaming sessions are thus few and far between. This game perfectly scratches that itch with online play. The community of players seems very active and welcoming so far. We are addicted to this game even though we have only played a couple matches.

Lot of fun if your into Pike and Musket era warfare. We really enjoy it!!

We highly recommend this game to anyone who loves hex map historical games. Very well thought out with some unique twists to even the playing field with newbies while retaining the interest for advanced players. The mini game is lots of fun without the fog of war, but the campaign game is a real challenge. Get this game!

We wanna buy more maps and cant.

Simple, comprehensive, and a decent AI in solo matches. I’d definitely recommend this app, as it’s got everything you’d expect from the era it covers in a clean, easy-on-the-eyes UI. We haven’t encountered any bugs, so the makers obviously put a good amount of work and care into their product. Definitely glad we found this app instead of blowing a hundred dollars or so on Holy League miniatures!

The game itself is great. The new player zone training mod however is flawed. As some player deliberately take advantage of it to not kill any unit while killing as many men as possible. Its now fixed. Great game.

A very fun and detailed turn-based game. Excellent manual to help you learn how to play. We’re glad we gave this a try. Spend the money to open up the campaign and multiple online games option! Update: after playing for a month it doesn’t get old or boring. The more skilled players are very helpful. They give advise and answer questions too!

A fun little hex based game, the different capabilities of the units keep gameplay pretty varied. Generally fun, even against the computer.

Well balanced thus committing the players to strategic thinking. This is a game in which your outcomes improve with practice. That’s how important strategic thinking is in this game. Come on, join us, you lose some at first, but you will figure it out and you’ll enjoy it.

Every game at the same time? C’mon guys. We quite fielding artillery and muskets because of this.

The best mobile turn based strategy game!!

Battle map strategy. Turn based. Online multiplayer. We can’t seem to find those attributes in another iOS game anywhere. We love playing our friends online. Only have time for turn based games. The strategy in this game is excellent. Only wish is for this game to grow. If they put out more campaigns, we would definitely buy.

Musket Smoke is a great game for those who enjoy strategy and tactics in their games. The game is simple to learn, hard to master, and will likely keep us coming back to play for a long time. Word of caution, newbies get thrown in the deep end in online play. Our first matches are all against top 10 players. But the balancing is good, so it’s not a hopeless cause. Most of the matches were close all the way through and were fun to play.

Excellent game! Snow punch really delivers with a turn-based hex and counter wargame. Easily the best wargame of its class on iOS. It has a great balance of units with varied abilities, non-random damage, strong tactical choices, along with a pleasing appearance and sound. This game is wonderful because it is so accessible. The tutorial explains the intricacies without massive text. It’s a quick couple of games to become seriously competitive with everybody online. We could go on and on but don’t waste your time. Buy this game in confidence that you will have fun and that the game has been supported for a long time. Great work Snowpunch!

This game makes cannons, musketeers, pikemen, and cavalry feel like cannons, musketeers, pikemen and cavalry and does so with a clever economy of mechanisms. We like the non-random determinative damage system, the importance of maneuver, and the variety of the battlefields and tactical challenges. The online matches are tense, full of interesting decisions, and we find myself eagerly awaiting our next turns. As expected the campaign adds units, scenario goals, and additional maps. These increase the tactical depth nicely. What really ratchets up the tension in the campaign is the removal of the ability to undo moves and that line of sight effects enemy unit spotting as well as ranged fire. This adds the possibilities of an ambush, the need to scout, and how to deal with an unexpected enemy encountered during the heat (and smoke) of battle to a game that already had a lot of interesting decisions each turn. For a small amount of money the campaign adds a tremendous amount of play. Disclaimer: we rated version 1.21 four stars and became an unpaid playtester. The game is now a five star game for us. All of our minor issues we had have been addressed. The number of improvements goes way beyond what we had hoped for. Things like the rating system, the information bar, the damage preview, the expanded chat window are icing on the cake. This game has become our most played head to head game.

If you like tactical wargames you need to purchase this game. You will love it.

Once you learn the basics fun will come.

We like this game but we wish you could make the army size in a battle bigger to make like a 10,000 man army or something like that.

The developers of this game had vision! We love it! Relatively simple rules, but also great complexity when all put together. It has everything it needs. Our only suggestion would be having a more detailed matchmaking section. We would like to see how many games are available, and we have not figured out how to make friends in game yet.

This is a game of skill with a slight bit of luck. Works as good training game versus AI, but the long-distance two person game is superb. The $4 campaign is well-worth the price.

Such a fun game and u can play online.

We love this game. Our only problem is we have paid for the Mini campaign, but it did not download even after several attempts… Any help?

Have to say, we were skeptical whether the AI would reasonably work but it is actually quite enjoyable. For those who love the genre, the rules encompass many of the tactics of the time. The graphics and animation work very well. Have not encountered any bugs.

It’s a great game. Deserves more playera.

We really like this game, because it is one of the few good strategy games on the App Store, we completely recommend.

We don’t know how a game can be simple AND incredibly tactical but this one is. Fans of tactical war games must purchase this title. The campaign even allows for some strategic maneuvering. Addicting.

Musket Smoke is an excellent TBS without the unnecessary ‘bells and whistles’ that other games can’t seem to keep from adding on. Musket Smoke is not complex nor is it boring. We’re a long time player and it still holds the number one spot on our game list after all these years and we still play it daily. You will not be disappointed!

No randomness, a large number of tactical decisions to make and a small number of easily understandable units and options. This is a well put together app with a lot of charm. The developer is very responsive and the app is under active development. We can see myself playing this for a long time to come. Reminiscent of Kriegspiel (not the chess variant). Just grab it!

Great blend of strategy and playability… An easy to learn, tough to master, game. The pace is great for an iOS game, you play your turn when you’re able, and can have several games going on at once. No two matches are ever the same, which is why multiplayer is so addictive. In fact our whole family is in on it now.

Simple rules and mechanics lead to deep strategy and endless possibilities. A very good tactical battle game.
