Community Insight:
We loved playing this game as a little kid and Ive even looked into Power Mac emulation in an effort to somehow play it again. So we were floored when we saw that this game was in the iOS store and had controller support. It seems like this game is rendered at native resolution or something very sharp on our 2020 iPad Pro, and it also appears that the game targets 60 fps and often hits that, but its hard to tell. However, playing this again has made us realize that there were some glaring omissions in the gameplay. The biggest one is by far the complete lack of any camera control. The right joystick does nothing, but how we wish it did! At one point, we were fighting this giant machine boss thing, and we had to just shoot at the general direction of where it might be because the camera was turned away from it and there was no way to fix that. The other issues are smaller, like the way that there are many invisible barriers that your gun cant shoot through (like by item boxes), but enemies can shoot through those same barriers and hit you, making for some frustrating gameplay. We could go on, but really, if the camera were fixed, this game would hold up far better against todays 3D games. All that being said, we have deep respect for the developer keeping his games playable on these newer platforms so that they can live on in a playable state. Thanks.
Would rate the game higher but it doesnt have a save game option so every time we close game we start over please fix asap.
Plz patch this we even went into the settings and raised the music volume and it still wont work HELP PLZ FIZ DISSSS.
The game is wonderful, but you need to have a compatible controller to really enjoy the experience. Using the touch screen controls wont really work well.
We grew up playing pangea games on our elementary school computers, so when we saw they had been ported to mobile we were super excited. Otto Matics mobile controls are pretty OK, the weapon swap works fine and the button size/placement works well. Unfortunately there is no turn around command which is pretty irritating on mobile given the way you move is already hard. Reorienting yourself can be annoying, which could be solved with an additional d-pad for camera view or adding a double tap on the movement dpad for quick turnaround. Already gave up level two because of the river ride magnet glitching lol. Yet to find out if theres a level skip to quickly catch up to where you were or play a favorite level as there was on desktop. But despite that ill probably still play because its a classic to us. Its just not the bestbe aware of that if youre looking for the same feel as OG on old Mac computers.
We remember playing this when it first came out on Mac. The iPad version is just as fun with the exception that there is no saving your progress. Id give it more stars if you could start from your last check point in the game.
We haven't played this game in a decade and it brings back memories! Super fun! Glad Apple still had it.
Another great game that is really fun in HD and 3D on the new Apple TV.
Very creative, very fun, very retro.
This game is just like the one we used to play on our old imac as a kid – brings back so many great memories and we still struggled with level 3 haha.
We still remember playing this on our IMac.
We used to play this game when we were like 6 on our E-Mac. It spawned our fear of killer vegetables but we will still always love it with all our heart. This game goes on our Top 10 best games. This game is so worth it, so please buy it.
Otto Matic is one of those games we feel weird reviewing. We played this along with so many other Pangea Software games when we were growing up. Now it's on iOS, so does it hold up? Let's start with the graphics. While not the best looking of Pangea Software's line up, Otto Matic is by no means bad looking. It translated well to the iOS when so many developers have a hard time making 3D iOS titles. Gameplay is simple, you run around alien worlds shooting enemies and saving humans. This combines the elements from the original Bugdom and Nanosaur from 1999 and 1998. The game is 10 levels long, and the enemy diversity, on par with Bugdom, plus the diversity in doing things, environments, and weaponry truly keeps your attention. However, what is there to return to? The music is stunning. Few games have a competent and CD-quality game score, but Aleksander Dmitrijevic really tried hard, like Michael Beckett. That and the terrific sound quality are what had a nicely appropriate Sci-fi feel. Overall, this is still a fun game with a wonderful tutorial to get you started plus a lot to keep you playing until the end. It's not the game Bugdom was but it's the next best thing. If you played this growing up: Guaranteed nostalgia. Also, NO IN APP PURCHASES! Otto Matic gets an 8/10. Mac version gets a 9/10.
We were playing through no problem, then in we think the 4th level it keeps crashing so we can't get any further. Rather frustrating because we want to keep playing.
We have always thought that this was one of our favorite games. We used to watch our older brother and one of our cousins play this, and It was so cool. We really like the differnt themes the worlds have to. If you thought about buying it, we can tell that you won't regret it. :) PS: if you like this you should also try bugdom 2.
Yet another great game by Pangaea software. This game was out since we were a toddler in 2004ish and it really brings back memories of when our dad and we would play this. It's great.
This is a great game, lots if great levels. We're really into the whole retro robot aliens stuff so this entertained us to no end, until the end. More levels! More Otto.
This is the best game ever!!! We deeply believe you should get this game.
Hello This was our favorite Mac game to play when we were younger and we just wanted to thank you guys for creating an app for it. We had so much fun playing it but we didn't really like level 3 (boring and long) and when your trying to change your weapons, the button is a bit slow and by the time we've picked the one we want we're almost dead :( and to make a selection in the main scene for all the levels so we could choose which one to play instead of having to start over. Also, just like the other comment said, the experience would be a lot better and amazing if the health, jetpack fuel, and rocket fuel, and the other gears a little bit transparent. We've spent so much time playing all ready and its official our favorite game.
It's a must have for us and its great for passing the time. We can play this game for hours. We have a suggestion. Along with us being able to edit the button placement (which is awesome) we should be able to edit the size of the buttons too and have the option to make them transparent. We think that's the only thing missing from this game and then it will be perfect. Thanks for putting Otto Matic on iOS guys! We used to play it all the time as a little girl on our computer. And to this day this game is still our favorite.
We own all the the Pangea games this one is currently our favorite. The game play is fun and the sound effects are awesome. Check out the other Pangea games and you will agree we need to support this developer so we will get more.
Great game. Great Graphics.Great Levels.Great places to explore.Great enemies to kill.Every level but level 3 is great. Level 3 is boring. We sometimes jump straight into the purple goo when we expect Otto to land on a gear thing ,and we lose life.Luckily we can still bounce back up to the obstacles. We sometimes jump under a gear and there's no way we can get out and bam Otto's dead.Once we get a game over we need to start the level all over again.
We love this game and still do we played it on a G4 cube.
Good game but horrible controls.
We have fond memories of the original Mac version back when we were a kid, and it's great to see this game is alive and well on the iOS after over a decade! Pangea's Brian Greenstone considers this to be his magnum opus. We'd have to agree with him, as it is a perfect blend of action, exploration, and platform hopping. It's probably Pangea's most unpredictable game, with new challenges and enemies around every corner. If you miss games like Bugdom or Nanosaur but don't have an old PowerPC Mac to play them, Otto Matic for the iOS is the perfect alternative to jump into Pangea's action-adventure genre.
Plz keep it only on apple products we loved this on computer and we love it for the iPad 2 good 3$ spent….. Well done Don't change anything it's perfect.
Loved this game on the computer, love It on the iPad 2. Buy it.
When we were little this was our most favorite game of all time (on a computer). We can see why people complain about the control layout but to us, this game brings back memories. If you're like us and played this when you were little, on the computer and loved it, get the game. If not, we wouldn't recommend it.
Needs to replace to d-pad with a joystick or have it toggleable.
This is a really good game… The only thing we think they should add is a button that centers the camera behind ur guy. Other then that, great game.
Best Game Ever You Should Play This Game.
We remember back in 2003 our G4 tower with Panther shipped with Ottomatic it was amazing for its time and we still enjoy this game as much as we did back then!! Thanks Pangea and we'd be looking on seeing something new any time soon.
We've been playing this game since we were 4. Then our Mac broke & we never had a chance to play this game since. But now it's on the iPad, and it's our favorite thing to play. 100% worth your money.
We remember playing this on our dad's eMac with OSX Panther. Yeah. A really long time ago. Was an excellent game, and when we noticed it came out for the iPhone, we bought it immediately and beat it in a single day. The only difference we noticed is that in the iPhone version, when Otto hits the water, he doesn't die instantly like the Mac version. But that isnt a problem anyway, this game is still amazing. GO PANGEA.
This game is awesome! We played it on our computer when we were 3, until it got deleted, and it's still cool.
We remember playing this game on our grandmothers computer 10 years ago. The developers did an incredible job of shrinking this game into the AppStore. Pros: Exactly like computer version (sure it's not down to a T but what game is) Has very challenging lvls (10 of them) all very different from one another. It is easy to get stuck on one for along period of time. Cons: Movibility. Don't get us wrong it's very easy to move around, however, sometimes when you turn around your camera still views where you had been facing and takes 2-3 seconds to correct it's self. Other than that this game is pitch perfect. We would strongly advise you to buy this game! You will not regret it if you enjoy story based games. Cheers.
Good game. Needs ability to spin around to view surroundings, and change direction control action like in the original Mac game.
Love this game. We used to play tgus game all the time on the desktop cpu o had. PANGEA SOFTWARE: PLEASE PUT THE ORIGINAL NANOSAUR AND THE ORIGINAL BUGDOM ON THE IPOD!!! THANKS.
Loved this game back when our parents had their first mac, and we still love it on the iPod touch/iPhone well played Pangea. Well played.
This game was sweet when we played it in our dads old office and it's even better on the go and the graphics are great for such an il game on this screen too. Two thumbs way up.
Played this when we were a little kid. Nostalgia nostalgia :). For those who said this game has terrible graphics, this game is what, 7 years old.
This game is awesome. We ranked top 3 on the global scores ! Yeah we have a lot of free time to ourselves =D.
Awseome game, good graphics, good controls and great gameplay. Remindes us the old computer game of Otto Matic but this one is better and runs great on our iPad.
Thank you soooooo much for making OttoMatic universal Brian!!! Ottomatic looks SOOOO amazing on our iPad… We hope you will do the same with your other games.
This is the best game ever and the most well thought out game we have ever seen. But the one thing it needs is a map. The levels in this game are very long and its easy to get lost. This game NEEDS a map.
We grew up playing this game on our macs. Starting when we were about four. Im 12 now :P. But yes this is definetley a complete import of Otto Matic which we love. Favorite game, only bcuz we grew up this being our fab game.
We have Otto matic on our mac and now we can do it every where we go! If you have otto matic on your mac fold f10 the key and click play only for mac.
A great one to be sure;) Love the graphics and use of color.
Stunning graphics, gameplay, it's fun.. Love it! Definetly buy now.
The game suggests turning off the smooth camera option for better control and has this set as the default. It couldn't be anymore incorrect. If your having control issues turn it ON and Otto will control much more accurately. We first played Pangea's bugdom 2 and loved it, so we had to get Pangea's Otto matic and deemed the game garbage due to the impossible controls and wished the dpad controlled ad well as bugdom 2. Turns out the camera option was the culprit. Pangea really needs to fix this or set it at default if they want to stop getting 1 star ratings, because with the smooth camera option on, the game is actually controllable and lots of people will not think to check this option. Otherwise it is a really fun game and pretty original. Pangea is one of the top iPhone devs and it shows.
