If so, then PLAYMAKER FOOTBALL is the game for you. The Chalkboard Editor is the feature that makes Playmaker unique from all other football simulations. Here you will build your playbooks, designing offensive, defensive, and special teams plays. Each playbook can have hundreds of plays, allowing you to prepare for ANY contingency. Of course, you’ll want to try out each play on the Practice Field option here, so you can check the timing on pass plays and see if that zone really IS airtight! Blocking schemes, coverage assignments, pass routes, blitz angles . . . you’re the coach, YOU DECIDE!
The coach (that’s YOU, son!) makes all the decisions — from "who to draft" on down to "who will be the holder on extra point tries?" PLAYMAKER FOOTBALL unites three distinct modules into one seamless game program. First, you’ll go through the Team Draft to "build" the team you need to best run your styles of offense and defense. Each player on the 30-man active roster (15 offense and 15 defense) has five ability categories: Speed, Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Discipline. Each player can have up to 100 points assigned to each of the five categories. As a coach, you’ll need to make sure that you have the personnel you need, whether that’s a bone-crushing fullback for your power running game or an all-world quarterback for your wide open pass attack. YOU DECIDE!

We remember playing Playmaker when we had a Palm IIIc, and back then we had the ability to choose computer control for both teams or none. We would dearly love to have such control back, as this would make Playmaker a perfect game for lunchtime at work. I’d also like to be able to AirDrop teams to our friends ‘ phones.
Im revising our previous review because the latest version fixed all the problems we mentioned before. We now have this on our iPad and love it. We give it 4 stars because Id like to see the full version (coaching AI, multiple teams etc.) on iOS. Then it would get 5 stars.
It’s a great game, just add online play and fix some bugs and it will be a perfect game. Bugs include plays not working by CPU teams, penaltys getting called for no reason, etc.
When this game worked we played it more than anything. But in 2019 it simply doesnt open. Im tell you guys, if you update this game to just make it playable, its a hit! Please please fix this game!
We played back in 1992, we had high hopes that the bugs had been worked out over the last 23 years but the game is still pretty buggy. You can’t save your team, pressing the big helmet button crashes the game, and the help menu doesn’t help any; stuck trying to remember the commands from 20 years ago. Hope it gets updated soon!

Update: new version (1.2) does not save changes to player stats (yes, even when you hit save). Chalkboard does not allow access to defensive player diagraming (leaves you with the offense options). Update went backward, to beta level 0.8– not ready for prime time. Old review, comparing version 1.0 to the old desktop version: Like many others, we have owned every version of this game, and have been a fan for a long time. What makes this football game great is the ability to create plays that follow a football strategy form of artificial intelligence. You draw it in the playbook, and the players play it out on the overhead view field. Here’s the rundown. What’s good: *Great football strategy game. *Still captures interest for a game that has been around since the early 90’s. (There is just something about customizing your own team and playbook, then going up against others.) *Graphics are reminiscent of the old version (gone are the head and shoulders overview, now replaced with just a helmet). *Game has same format as always, and it still works– hours of engrossing fun, almost endless replay-ability, and play tweaking ("I wonder if we have that receiver fake left, then break right…") *Good touch control port to the iPhone (with a couple of exceptions– the repeat tapping of a player feature is not explained/counter intuitive; hitting the right player on a small screen with a complex play can be difficult; and old users will long for an incremental cut ("undo") when diagramming plays). *Draw your plays, then call your plays in the game. Great fun. What’s missing: *Sound *The old artificial intelligence system where you could program the computer to select plays for you in various circumstances, and let the computer run the game– this birthed many online leagues as you could upload custom playbooks (for example, you could design plays for 3rd and long between the 40 and 50 yard line, left hash mark– the old game would allow you to set plays and give them a priority– then it would increase the priority of that play if it gained yardage, and decrease its priority if it lost yardage– a true artificial intelligence! Sadly, this is absent in this version– search for and try the desktop version to see). *ability to import teams and playbooks. Overall, I’d say its worth it– and with some development, could blossom into iPhone Playmaker Leagues of legendary proportions, with playbooks exchanged across cell/wifi networks… Fantasy Schmantacy… Its fun now, and has even more potential.
With bug fixes, this app has the potential to be a 4-star app. Tired of having the app completely crash, causing us to lose changes to our plays. The developer seems to have given up.
This app is absolutely horrendous. You pay money just to see a app not even work. Complete scam and the creators need to be dealt with. Terrible Terrible Terrible Terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dont waste your your money. Man we loved playing this game. Everything about it. The music, the graphics, offense, defense, it was exciting. But this isnt the game you remember. It crashes every time we try to open it. Every single time! We’ve emailed the company and to date zero response! So, take a pass on this game and save your money.

The game always crashes on us the first time we downloaded this game it crashed right away we could never ever play this game.
Downloaded it and couldnt open the app. Crooks!
We loved this game as a child. We still really enjoy playing it but it hasnt worked in over a year. It doesnt even open.
Hard to figure out and just plain stupid.
We too was a long time fan of PMFB on Mac. Very disappointed at the bugs and lack of a version that takes advantage of iPad interface. This could be one of the great apps … But is now relegated to one or two stars. Come on guys … Get some energy behind improving the product!

Youd have to be an idiot to not figure this out.
Love it but press instructions button and read the instructions complicated at first but once you understand it this game is amazing.
When we bought the game and finally opened it in our we pad it looked immensely difficult to understand so we though we had wasted our money a week later here we are playing this game non stop it could have used a tutorial to start with but the instructions are very helpful. Take note, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, you have to or this game will look like a ton of gibberish. That said the game is fun and when we finally figured out the timing and everything it became fairly simple to make plays.
Please make editing player stats more accurate (and less picky) on the iPad.
It is a lot of fun making plays and stuff but we can’t play a game with the team we created and the plays we created. It keeps making us coach the same team over and over again with plays we have no idea what they are.
We check back on this app every few months hoping changes have been made. This is the kindve game I’d be willing to pay for if it were fixed. We’ll give 2 stars for potential and it being free.
It is mildly laggy and just hard to work with.
We really like the idea behind this, but it is so buggy that it doesn’t ever work. Also needs an undo button in the play creator.
This might be cool but it is clearly broken. We can’t make it down the field one time without the system getting stuck in a penalty loop which then happens every single play after. Very disappointing.
We love the idea of a football game where you get to be the coach and just call the plays but this game fails. Same penalty happens over and over, the play starts with no result but running time off the clock and it appears support is nonexistence. Looks like the designer saw it was a dog and walked away. Apple should pull this app so no one else spends $ on this app that does not work.
A complete waste of money. We bought the game and we couldn’t use it at all. Every time we clicked on the app it crashed. We tried every way to fix it.
This game just does not work on IOS.
There is a recurring glitch which happens every game. The same penalty over and over. Too bad. Don’t waste your money no matter how tempting.
Sell the rights to this game to a company like the makers of Clash of Clans. So much potential but you aren’t going to make any money like this. Played on the Mac back in the day and single player as well as head-to head was awesome. We keep hoping someone would do this on iOS but this incarnation just won’t cut it without funding of some kind.
Menus are too hard to navigate and end up moving players all over the field when drawing plays. There is surely something here but not usable as is.

You can’t play a season or anything just a single game with no matter if u win or lose. Cant even use our created team every time we save It it just sees to not exist when we try to use is.

Freezes alot but it is the best app ever.
It’s awesome but you need to be able save formations AS formations instead of plays, motion needs to be added, CPU difficulty, and handoff y does it have to be a pitch and whenever u get it down in practice it screws up in the game. Good but could be great!
You can’t send a receiver in motion plz make a motion control.
This game is awesome, but we can’t win a game to save our life!! This would be awesomely unbelievable if there were a multiplayer like blootooth and online!

We’ve been a big fan of this game for years, it is one of our all time favorites. We were thrilled to see that it made it to this platform. One problem with gameplay we’re still having on this version is the games unwillingness to continue at end of quarters or 2 minute warning. We have to stop the game, stop the game in multitasking, then restart. Pain. There are 2 features I’d love to see. Automatic game play is one, including the ai features of the play calling. Second one is the ability to wirelessly(or thru game center) exchange teams, and maintain the team’s overall record and stats. Lots of potential here. Hopefully you keep up improvements! Looking forward to it.
We have been loading plays that we have used for years in our little league football teams and this is just plain frustrating that we get so many errors and phantom penalties when trying to play a game. We really want to like this game and use it for tweaking of our plays but the fact that our receivers a being called for ineligibility is just plain ridiculous.
We like the idea but to confusing we’re trying to do our roster but every time hit save it doesn’t so we can’t rosters Chalk board where you make play we like the idea but to confusing than you can’t use it in the games The practice is fine along with the games please fix if was fixed we would rate it 5.

If we press replay on a game, the screen goes black and we have to reinstall the app.
This app is BAD. Crashes, not easy to use, not free to create new formations. Waste of money. Don’t buy!
