Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
Really fun take on the tower defense genre. We enjoy how youre not locked in between waves and to get far you have to continually readjust. Beat all of the rifts and it was reasonably challenging. Theres a set of challenges afterwards for those who want even more difficulty. Would happily pay for an expansion with more rifts and/or towers.
For tower defense genre of games fans like us, this was a refreshingly fun game. Definitely enjoyed the experience. =).
100% completion, we really enjoyed it. Thanks for making it.
A unique, fun, beautiful, and challenging tower defense game. At times maybe a little bit too challenging, at least for us but Im working to get better! :-) Dont listen to the one star reviews from people who apparently dont know how to read and arent willing to spend a small amount of money on a quality product. Try the game and see if you like it. We bet you will.
We really enjoyed the game. We finished all of the rifts and just completed all challenges. Was kind of hoping for some sort of celebration… Is it just over? Am we missing something.
Fun game, we do feel like it is missing a story though, we think that is why this game isn't more popular, it has good mechanics and variety but lacks a strong story driven goal to give a sense of purpose and connection to the world and character, relying entirely on its mechanics and unlocks to motivate the player. We would double down on this game and revamp the story adding in some mystery where you gain some new dialogue at the start or end of levels that leads the player to answers about the world and gives character to the motives of the player and enemies creating a more immersive and enjoyable experience. Maybe give the player a little helper or mentor for the tutorial to more naturally explain the gameplay and giving help on more advanced mechanics later on, even those types of simple additions create ambiance and connection.
This game was a good buy. Simple, yet difficult. Highly recommend.
This was a great game to play over a few weeks. Art style, music, and sound design were all a big win for us. Its challenging at times but not overwhelming and we really appreciate being able to try it for a little bit and buy for a low cost. Thanks a bunch.
You can easily tell this isnt one of those lazy AI money grabbing games. This is made as a result of pure love and passion. The variety, the strategic chaos, and infinite combinations, the design and audio !! Very well worth the price. Its only 6 bucks and im playing this more than hell divers or arc raiders. Please add more content.
We love that developers like this are thinking outside of the box and creating a new type of tower defense that is fresh and fun as heck! Thank you so much! Also, why do people give bad ratings because they refuse to get a job? The developer doesnt use scummy IAPs, just a one time price for the whole game and some give a bad review and rating because they are too cheap to fork over 6 bucks. Like another reviewer said, this is why we dont have nice things. Why we get so few premium games anymore. At least you can try it first to see if you want to pay for the full game. Thats generous. If you dont want to open your wallet on a rare premium and fair price then dont. But its disingenuous as heck to bring down the games score when this developer actually has good morals and ethics and only asks ONE fair price for a great game. The people doing this wouldnt spend untold hours and effort making an awesome game and then give it away completely free. So why do you expect the world to do that for you? Jeez. To all of the other people who understand value for a fair price. We highly recommend this fun as heck game and want to extend our sincere thanks to the developers for creating and offering this game for sale fairly. Thank you very much, God bless and Merry Christmas.
Rift Riff has a lot to offer even before youre required to purchase the full product. The design and gameplay are intriguing and addictive in a good wayit actually makes you think rather than mindlessly play. Each level feels unique, and you really have to figure out which towers work best to clear it completely. As other reviews have mentioned, it can be a bit confusing at times since the game expects you to figure things out on your own, which might not suit everyone. Hopefully, an optional help or guidance feature (that can be enabled or disabled) could be added in the future. Im still playing and definitely hoping to see more levels added.
Its a fun game! The trial gets you well set to understand the mechanics before deciding to buy. That said Im gonna get the steam version because we rarely do phone games. Still, great port.
Definitely one of those games that makes you feel very confident in the beginning and then humbles you as you progress but in a good way! Every level is easy to retry in different ways to find the optimal solution. The gameplay loop and quickness is a great fit for mobile. The entire game can be easily played with one hand.
We've played dozens of tower defense games over the years and this one is our favorite. It's beautifully designed both aesthetically and strategically, with each tower serving a clear purpose.
More levels, more towers, more upgrades, more mobs, levels that force you to use particular towers. We had a lot of fun playing this and was disappointed when the map stopped expanding.
Really excellent iOS game! Controls well, difficulty is fair, graphics and sound are really nice. Plays in portrait orientation, which is great for a mobile game. Recommended.
An interesting take on tower defense. The game incentivizes the player to take risk and get monsters as close as possible to the tower to get bonus juice from flowers. The game controls well, feels very polished, and is fun to play. Definitely seems worth the extra money for the full game.
The game is great and fun but the game is way too short without the full version of the game.
Expansive free trial, great music, challenging levels and cool towers.
Why evrything in apple you shuld pay to have it , why we shoud pay for game for only have a little fun in this country with lots of problems . Hoooof.
A fun little tower defense game with strategy, but the main character makes gibberish and noises that wear on you fairly quickly.
We really enjoy the game and really appreciate that you get a free trial. Our main criticism would be that the UI needs a confirmation button when you go to buy something. Its a a bit frustrating buying or placing the wrong tower because you confused the symbol or forgot which one it was. Otherwise though, a fun game.
The game itself is great, but maybe the game should be free and you can buy other stuff like pay to win.
Tower defense, but strategic, if trail and error is the only strategy you use. Extremely basic information on towers and enemies. Levels seem setup for specific tower combos and end too quickly. Its like doing half the prep work over and over but never starting the project. Decent for mindless fun but no real meat.
Its not free. You have to pay 5 bucks to get the full version.
Completely different after, and way harder and more complicated. Also charged our card more than it showed in the app. (showed like 5$ and charged 6) otherwise genuinely a good game before u paid when it wasn't extremely difficult even though it was short. We wouldnt have paid 6$ in general, let alone for x10 difficulty. Just like any other tds but its a very unique style, makes it interesting to play but again, if we could play. After paying we find ourselves having to constantly replay the same levels and waves and its incredibly slow, maybe a x2 speed would help but maybe im just really bad at the game.
Movement and tower building feels clean. Enemy waves hit fast so it goes from calculated to frantic fast which is fun. We really like the contrast between downtime and action. Sad it sits at 3.8 review score. The whole world is tired of micro transactions but when a developer gives a free trial with an option to own forever; people give negative reviews to a solid game… This is why we don't have nice things, Earth.
Dont normally write reviews but this game is definitely worth it. Easy to grasp and smooth gameplay. Great game for passing time or playing 5 minutes here and there.
This game is so fun and worth the money imo. Will there be new levels in the future.
Great game- cant buy to win, must use actual strategy. Good music, good indie feel.
Dont be fooled by the cutesy minimalist art style- this game is TOUGH. Its a super fun tower defense game revolving around a simple but powerful quirk- towers sell for 100% of their original cost, allowing you to completely flip strategies between waves. You are meant to die multiple times a level, and figuring out what strategy works best as you chip away through each wave is the heart of the game. That aha! Moment you get when an underlooked tower steamrolls the final stretch of a wave that your main defenses cant handle is unparalleled. Its like a puzzle game! Coupled with its non-linear progression, no two play through are the same. Theres also a ton of stuff to unlock too! Some strategies that have helped us for players that are struggling: – Shrieker, Nova and Slower are excellent at thinning out crowds. If a map has a choke point with three nearby nodes, use them and finish off the bulky survivors with snipers or seekers. – On maps with tons of nodes, try spamming outposts. Those can get you through the first 3 waves easily. Our only critiques we really have are that only some towers get dedicated levels after unlocking them while others dont- it would be great if you could show Stinger and Weakener the same love you give firebreather or bomb! It would also be cool if u could see what towers are upgradable in the tower select menu, since different towers have access to different upgrades (we can upgrade the health of our Gatling but cant upgrade the range of our Nova? Huh) and having to keep track of that makes us hesitant to use new towers. Maybe place a colored pip next to each tower in the UI to signal what upgrades it has access to? An almanac would be useful too! Notes that describe what each tower does in detail. Maybe an entry could be unlocked when you beat a level with the tower? An almanac for the enemies would be cool too. We like the writing in this game, we wanna see more of it! Lastly, this is a bit of a stretch, it would be cool if you could see the path enemies take. That would help with weird maps and greatly aid route planning with the Bait? Fertile Ground, and Shrieker, our favorite tower. But yeah, keep up the good work!! Id pay for a DLC easily.
Wish there was more, or atleast maybe im done? Idk im just roaming around and cant find more to play.
Ive played a ton of games in our many years as a game and mobile gamer and Im rarely confused on what to do. Ive spent 1 hour running around the 1st level trying everything to make something happen. We built a 2 towers and we cant make anything happen. No monsters. Nothing.
Love that we could get immersed into a great strategy game without getting hooked for too long. Still takes way more than 20 hours to complete especially if including the harder challenges.
Well worth the price, a lot of polish and care went into this game.
No ads, worth every cent for unlocking the full game, strategic enough that it's not hard to understand but not easy which makes it very fun would recommend.
Fantastic game, neat art style, good pacing. It can be difficult to read the descriptions of towers and menu items given that you have to tap and hold to show a popup and releasing the tap selects that item.
Unfortunately – as much as we want to like this port – the controls are abysmal. We dont recommend the iOS version but head over to steam and buy this on your desktop! Its just too difficult to play (infuriating) with the current touch control design. No confirmation prompts, buggy movement, etc. Ugh.
Pretty enjoyable game, nice art style.. Played maybe 10 minutes and was hit with a paywall :/ maybe dont promote it as free if it isnt free.
Played the start, excited to play more since this gameplay this seems very polished and passion was put into these mechanics and we like the art style a lot.
We never write reviews but this game is simple to understand, has interesting mechanics and is challenging while still being possible. It is worth every penny and we can only hope it gains even more traction, because it truly deserves it.
Very sound game logic, very simple, and caters to your gaming style. We love this mf game bruh.
Im shocked that theres so few reviews for this game, this really is a great tower defense game. The art is pleasing and the level design and monster behavior gives this a very unique spin on classic tower defense mechanics. Big fan.
We love the graphics, the physics, we love everything about this game.
Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised just how fun this little game is. You may think its just a simple tower defense but its actually pretty deep and has tons of different ways you can defend with buildings and companions. 10/10 love this.
For a mobile tower defense game this should be WAYY bigger than what it is. This game is incredibly fun.
Gameplay is perfect balance of strategy and tower defense. Music and UI are great. But if we had to point out a single trait that really pushed this game over the edge, it would be the way the developers monetized. Instead of ruining a great game with constant up cells or ads they allow you free rain in the first 25% of the game and then offer the rest of the game at a reasonable price. We dont think Ive ever decided to pay for a game any quicker than we did for this game. We absolutely recommend you downloading and try and get yourself. Kudos to the game creators. This is a good one.
We rarely leave reviews for games but we had to for this one. This is quite literally one of the most well made games we have ever played.
If youre looking for a fun tower defense game that doesnt needlessly punish you for experimentation Rift Riff is for you! Additionally, its dripping with personality and charm. The art and design is gorgeous and the music should have its own release on vinyl.
