Don’t be like us and embarrass yourself by looking like a Luddite trying to figure out how these smartphone things work. Turn off vibrate so you can hear the narration!
This app is perfect to start the game. It might seem long winded if youre a liberal but its important to get the roles right in a non-rushed manner for the red team. At 45 seconds of narration startup for a 5-6 player game, its just fine. A player cant narrate the game as well as they might give clues depending on their role. Maybe theyre good enough not to do that but use the app and you dont have to worry. For the reviews that complained about the app shutting off mid-narration. Thats your device sleep settings. Use the app. Its a fair start to the game and Wil will remind you of the good old days on Star Trek.
Not sure what the previous reviewer had an issue with … At first we thought this app would explain the rules, but instead it just does the narration needed at the start of each game. It might take about a minute tops, and we’ve played this 5 or 6 times and we are really glad to have this narration. A good app!
Wil does a great job on the narration!! We don’t know if it’s our iPad but the scaling is off. Maybe check it out for an iPad Air 1? We also had a friend complain about lack of audio. He had his mute switch on. Is there something you can change in the code for that user error so you don’t get a thousand rating/ emails about this issue? Lastly, having a landscape orientation for iPad would be swell. Make it happen. Thanks.
The sound works fine if you turn your phone off of vibrate on the side.
Great narration by Wil Wheaton as always. As other have said, you have to turn off vibrate to hear the sound. :)
The negative reviewers of this app are conceited individuals who need their mothers to wipe their own bums for them. Long winded and verbose??? What in the world are you people smoking??? This app provides 3 recorded introductions and their lengths are 1 minute 20 seconds for 5-6 players, 2 minutes 1 second for 7-8 players, and 2 minutes 14 seconds for 9-10 players. If your childish self cannot manage to sit through a 2 minute cute and colorful introduction to the game which does a fantastic job setting the mood, you have bigger problems in your life that need addressing. The purpose of this app is to provide new players with a helpful way to introduce the game and get a game started. Of course listening to a single recorded introduction over and over again is going to get old rather quickly. Thats not what this app is for. Once youve played a few games, you no longer need the app. You will be familiar with how to start a game yourself. Make your own funny voices and colorful introduction to each game. Being animated is what makes hanging out with friends or family fun. You dont need Will to hold your hand all the time.
The narration is fine, but we wish there were two modes: funny & long winded, and "I’ve heard this before, get to the point." lol.
It works as long as your phone isn’t on silent. It doesn’t walk you through the whole game like one night werewolf, but you don’t really need it throughout the game, plus it’s not super linear so it would be difficult if it did.
To us the narration isn’t funny. I’d rather there was just a normal narration that got to the point. That said the app works as it is meant to. There should just be an option for the fluff and non-fluff version.
When playing the game it does not play the narration!
Audio worked on all 3 versions in the initial download, but since the update, audio no longer plays though it looks like it should be as there’s a stop button that appears after you press play.
Does what it’s supposed to do, but by golly is it long winded! Takes minutes to do what should be done in 30 seconds. Because of this we just went back to one of us narrating. Can we have a short version please!?
This app was helpful when we started playing, but now we cant get together to play. Has anyone figured out a way to play over a video call if both of the groups quarantining separately own the game?
The sections to play the nighttime directions don’t work. The overall How To Play works but that’s it. Please fix.
We downloaded the app and got the plat icon but we dont hear any audio. Is there a fix for this?
The app will fall asleep and cut the mid narration if you don’t interact with the screen. However, your eyes are supposed to be closed while the narration is going. You took the time to get legit voiceover work, you should take the time to make it so we can hear it too. Please just add support to disable a app idle timeout while the narration is playing. Otherwise the app is great and is a great way to get the game rolling.
While playing the audio, the screen timed out which killed the audio. Also the audio wont play if the phone is silent. These two issues can be easily fixed by the developer. Just set the AVAudioSession category to .
We wish there was a straight forward narration option. The jokes are not great and there are so many of them it feels like it takes way longer than it should.
As another review pointed out, the app defeats itself when our eyes are closed and the narration shuts off because our phone auto locks after 2 minutes. Downloaded this while explaining the game to a new group, hit play and it stopped while the fists were on the table. Didnt know why till we just read the other review. Either fix it so the auto lock wont activate or give a warning dialogue to adjust auto lock settings. Will gladly rate 5 stars if you can fix this Love the game by the way!!!
Downloaded yesterday to use with the game for the first time, but none of the narrations for any amount of players is working!
We thought this would do a the explaining for us it but the audio did not even work on it.
This app hasnt been updated in 3 years, and it is currently broken. It doesnt work properly because the app stops playing the audio when your phones display auto-locks! So right while all of your eyes are closed, the app stops working! We emailed the developers several times, and they have ignored all of our emails! Fix this app! We are reporting this app to Apple.
The app only has one purpose, and that’s to narrate the "night phase" of the game. It doesn’t work.
No audio despite messing with settings and researching causes for an hour. Completely frustrated and annoyed.
Narration will pay but only on our AirPods not our phone speaker. Sound works fine when we play the video tutorial.
The audio instructions simply dont play. The link to YouTube works so the app is just a partially functioning link to YouTube as far as we can tell.
This app is currently a mess. It stops playing audio when your phone auto locks and others have reported it uses the notification volume rather than music volume.
We love the game and have played it with other people and think that the narration piece is great and really adds to it. Unfortunately, both our husband and we have tried downloading the app on our iPhones and the narrarations dont play when we press the play buttons. Really disappointed. Would love to hear it working!
Love the board game, but the app is broken.
You have to turn on notification sounds to play the audio. Why couldnt they just program it as music instead of a game sound effect?
The narration in the app is extremely and ultimately and even positively long and overly verbose! Im also sure it is extremely and ultimately and even positively long and overly verbose. Did you see what we did there? Didnt like it? Dont use this app… Because Wil does it throughout the entire narration. Repeating things over and over and telling jokes that are not funny and take away from the gameplay. Please just stick to the script and get rid off the stupid fluff. Also, please add a pause button. If we need to pause, all we can do is press stop and, when playing again, the narration just starts over from the beginning.
The app currently does nothing.
We’ve checked all settings for phone and its making noise w songs, etc. But not this app.
Narrator says a lot of stuff that isn’t important to the games mechanics, ends up being quicker to just do it yourself.
The only thing that does work is the video link to YouTube. All the audio doesnt play, we’ve toggled all of our audio settings and nothing happens.
The app isnt currently playing any sound. Two of us downloaded the app, and no sound wOuld play. Went to report the issue, and was instead directed to the website where we could purchase the game. The game itself is fantastic.
We used the app narration a total of ONE time. It was so long and unfunny that it would have been painful to use it again. We love Wil and love the game but please – give us a version that we can use every time we play! Dont forget, everyone has their eyes closed and a closed fist extended toward the center of the play area for the entire time the narration is running. This overly-long narration actually makes it more likely that someone will mess up and open their eyes or just get tired of holding their fist out and screw up. Too bad – it was a cute idea.
Love the game but no sound plays. Friend worked on his but he has an android.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the audio still doesnt work for the narration.
We downloaded the app today and was testing it out and can’t seem to get the narration to play. It recognizes our click and acts like it is but no sounds. All the other links in the app work. Just no game narration.
If the audio won’t play then try turning off silence/vibrate on your phone. Every other app audio works just fun with silence/vibrate on for us, except this app. Beyond that 5/5 stars for Wil Wheaton voiceover, they’re hilarious and also not the same every time.
