Strategery Reviews

We purchased this game when our 3gs was new. Still playing it several phones later, thanks for keeping it updated.

Great, addictive game that has been on our iPad forever! One request, it would be cool to see which color AI wins the game on matches that we lose. In other words, see the AIs duke it out till the game is finished.

This is one of the only iOS games we play. We’ve had it for years and never get tired of it.

One of the best strategy games. A lot if replays with different settings. Many online players for more intense plays. We also used this game to teach some concepts of geopolitics and strategies. You might want to add some functions from A similar game "Warlands" such as 1) automatic deployment when the game is ending; 2) fortifying and relocating existing army to other adjacent tiles.

This is the longest played iOS game we have that we keep coming back to.

This game is old but remains a favorite. We play the hard level, not brutal, and while it has gotten a little easier over the years, it still poses very difficult challenges and presents boards that may be impossible to defeat. The game can be played quickly and the maps can be scaled to mobile phone or iPad size. Im really impressed with this game. No matter how many years go by, it remains a favorite. It produces an endless array of maps and combinations. Its an outstanding game. The challenges to the game reveal themselves over time. Maximizing your placement of dots to try to defeat the board in the shortest time possible is not a game function, but the type of challenge you can add yourself.

This game is one of our all-time favorites. We have played thousands of games, and we love it. After a break due to working from home and changes in lifestyle we have come back to play more and am so sad that the app does not open on our iPad anymore. We are not sure why but there are no updates for the app, and it just closes itself immediately upon opening. Restarting our iPad did not fix it. We are very sad as we may lose our game history if we have to delete it and reinstall it. :(

Rediscovering this while at home for awhile. Still super fun, would love an update but. It complaining. Good for our kids aged 6 & 8. They got real strategic on us and now surrender to each other after amassing forces to combine and crush us.

The multiplayer server has been unreachable for weeks, but now its back!

This is one of our all time favorite games. Im grateful that it exists.

This was our go-to game to kill a few minutes. We’ve been playing it for what seems like over a decade now. Great game, that alas does not seem compatible with iOS 14.2.

Yes 64bit support!!! Love this game. Played it for years.

After nearly a decade, this game continues to be among the best games for iOS. The beauty of the game lies in its simplicity and subtle strategy. An absolute must have.

Hello. We were first introduced to this game by our father a long time ago, and we’ve come to love it today. Its still a well-built game. Only suggestion we might have is to potentially update the UI a bit, and to have the game screen fit the iPhone X and above. Cheers.

The most subtle/interesting setups may be with coalitions, which is how we always play it. Give yourself a large board with 2 out of 5 colors, set to brutal and strategies naturally evolve such as buffer state, the enemy of our enemy is our friend, complicated lines of supply, sacrificial tactics, and curious dilemmas. Assign yourself a victory condition that both your microstates must survive, and its harder. How to play where 3 or more colors contact is often difficult, and chess terms like zwischenzug or similar restraint suggest themselves. Go qualities like efficiency, number of points of contact, and shape are also in the air.

Dont believe the comments about the levels being all about ridiculously impossible dice rolls – that was clearly from a person who tried jumping to the brutal level before he had a grasp of the subtleties of the game. We only play in the brutal level and it is a true challenge (I win 60-70%), but you have to know what youre doing. We suggest mastering each level before moving up – and disregarding comments of ignorance. It took about 80 hours to work up to brutal for us, and has kept our interest for 7 or 8 years now. We do agree, however, about having to occasionally tap many times to eliminate the last one or two pieces (which is usually the result of poor planning on the players part, but we accept it as a kind of punishment for not getting the end moves just right, driving our challenge right up to the last move), and that there could be an easy fix, but we find it hysterical that the complaint is coming from a screen name with … Real Zen… In it. We play this game every time we have to wait for something (Drs. Offices, on long flights, etc.) and it is a perfect challenge for us. We highly recommend it. November 2020 Update: This game doesnt appear to be compatible with IOS 14 – it just wont open since we upgraded our IOS.

We love this game, and have played it for many years. In the past month or so, it stopped working on our iPhone XS. The app refuses to open, or opens and immediately quits, Im not sure which. It still works on our new iPad Air.

What a fantastic game! This app got awards back in the iPhone 2.0 days and we would give it 5 stars today. We didn’t realize the app was only 14.7mb large – great job dev team! Sure the app has some issues now with iphone x screens or online not working, but the core single player experience is still amazing.

This is our go-to mindless game on our iPad mini. We never stop playing it….

This was the very first game we played on iOS. We’ve played it at least a few times a week ever since.

Great little game. Simple, quick risk like game, especially when auto army placement is turned on. We have no problems with the game and can easily beat it on brutal, if we pick a good map.

Im not sure what these bad reviews are talking about. If you read the game rules and understand the game mechanics youll realize that it tells you how your armies are placed. If you dont like it theres an option to place them where youd like them. Hands down one of the best time killers out there. If we run out of space on our phone o keep this app as our last game because it doesnt get old. Its like a board game that you go back to because its solid.

This is one of our favorite games of all time, and the game we play more than any other. It hasnt been updated in five years, and we really wish theyd make small tweaks or an overall update. Id definitely pay for it. Like if they had a faster gameplay in terms of speed, or auto fill armies.

We’ve been playing this game, nearly daily, since 2010. Was worried I’d have to find a new game when iOS 11 shipped. Would love to see a new, bigger, map size for the big iPad Pro.

Good strategy game. Fast to play if needed. Fun to toggle settings like size and full/empty starting map and experiment with different game setups that way. Fun to try to figure out the AIs and predict their moves. Fun to conquer the world Risk-styles. Fun to play on randomly generated maps that are always different and almost always interesting in some unique way. The one problem is that your starting position largely controls whether or not you have a shot at winning this game. But even then, it is often fun to give yourself an inferior starting position and see if you can still win. All in all, awesome game, well worth downloading.

We’ve been playing this game for many years. It has a high level of replay ability. Highly recommend.

The game is fun, but not challenging. Once you understand how the AI thinks you can will all of the games easily even in brutal mode with odds against you. We wish if you can add a world mode with continents and countries like in some popular game. Part 2 maybe?

Fantastic turn-based, Risk-like game. Dov’s updated it to 64-bit, so it will continue to live when iOS 11 arrives. We’ve spent many hours playing this game and am happy to see we will be able to for hours to come.

A great game that we’ve kept on our phone for years. We were afraid we were going to loose it when iOS 11 came along. Thanks for the update.

This was one of first games on our first iPhone. 11 years! Ignore the newbies who dont take the time to learn this game – theres subtlety and style involved in mastery, but the turn-based play lets you spend from a few seconds to a few hours. Waiting rooms, queues, bored, mastering a single map – you can do it all. Ill be playing this for another decade yet to come.

It’s a fantastically simple and entertaining app. It happened to be one of the first ones we downloaded when we got an Apple device years ago, and it’s the first one we’ve downloaded on any Apple devices since. We also will play it while watching shows.

Instant replay is not working anymore. We use the latest app and iOS versions. Thank you for the great game.

One of the few games that is always a joy to play. The games are the right length, and the gameplay is great. Thanks for creating it! Update: we still enjoy playing years laterthank you so much for keeping your app updated!

We’ve been playing this game for years. Its wonderful. Wish they would make another version. Perhaps allowing you to transfer dots from one area to another during the game play.

We really enjoy the game, but theres a bug that can destroy games. If you get interrupted in the middle of placing armies & the screen locks, then all the armies that youve placed will be gone & all youll be left with are the unplaced armies. So instead of having 30 armies, you can be left with 5.

We’ve played this game continuously since we first bought it in 2010. Turns can be completed very quickly, making this our go-to game during commercial breaks, waiting in line, etc. I. Still. Love. This. Game.

Solid fun game of risk. Only thing wrong imo is the starting placement of territory in land grab mode. Being able to change location to make more balanced would make it 5 star for sure.

This is definitely a fun game but is super buggy in Online Battles. Please fix!

Been playing this game for years. It disappeared for a while but is back. We are having an issue with it crashing when we finish a map. Please fix. No crashes would be 5 stars.

See the one star review by the Real Zen Boy.

… In the abstract battle genre, compared to the Euro strategy board and card games that have been ported to the iPhone / iPad. This "Strategery" game suffers from the same problem that plagues Risk and Monopoly (only worse in this case), and that is: once an opponent captures about 60% of the land tiles & armies, you can kiss your victory goodbye. You’re going to slowly get steamrolled. Sure, you can continue to play the game, but you realize, far in advance, it’s pretty much over… The same goes if you’re ahead… In that case, you’ll crush your opponents in what feels like a shallow victory – because you knew you were going to win 5 minutes into the game! Even adjusting the options to "land grab mode" and/or "random army placement" doesn’t solve the problem. Choosing to manually place your bonus armies does help you gain a little more control; but it hardly feels worth the effort. We’re a little disappointed by the fact that the developer of this app didn’t address the problem of what is basically, luck-based attrition as the dominating factor in the outcome of this game (including the random, initial army placement)… And didn’t bother to introduce more mitigating factors. There is NO excuse for this, because this problem and it’s need for correction are in "chapter 1" of any guidebook on game design. *** If the reader is interested in a quality strategy game, we would point you in the direction of the famous European game designers. In the abstract battle genre, Knizia’s: Tigris & Euphrates (deepest), Samurai (deep), Kingdoms (lighter), and Battleline (lighter) come to mind as strong picks. Also, we would suggest "Web of Power" (moderate) and also "Fealty" (moderate) as fine strategy games as well.

After placing most of your armies, switching to another app then back to Strategery, your recently placed armies are gone and not recoverable. This isnt game breaking as long as you finish your move before app switching. Still annoying.

As the game gets harder, the strategy doesn’t get better. The dice are just weighted against the user. No fun. We have run simulations that demonstrate the computer attacks or defends in a sequence of moves that have less than a 2% probability and yet this happens repeatedly. It must be too difficult to program strategy, so the developer just skews the probabilities in the computer’s favor.

Online matches suddenly stopped working.

This wonderful game still doesnt support the iPhone X or XS or other modern phones. Please please update!

This app is no longer supported multiplier is no longer supported.

This game has a serious bug that the devs won’t fix. As another reviewer has described, the game loses track of finished games and you’ll find yourself prompted to resume playing a map that’s already been completed. So, you’ve won (or lost) a game, but when you go to start another, you find that your progress has been undone (except for your win or loss, which was tallied), and you gave to finish the "saved" game from some earlier state ir else dump the game for a loss. Effectively, the computer player is taking a mulligan, since resuming the zombie game gives a whole new sequence of random outcomes, which sometimes leads to a reversal of what you thought was a resolved outcome. We’ve had wins turn into double losses because of this bug, and we want it fixed. One star until it gets squashed by these lazy devs.

App no longer works. Just a black screen.
