With the village’s crops withering untended in the fields and its people heading mindlessly toward oblivion, the one person unaffected by Morg’s influence, a young woman named Xobia, enters the keep to find the source of Morg’s power and put an end to the misery that has been unleashed on the hapless village.

Find out what gamers are saying about Tainted Keep:
We’re enjoying this game, and we’re quite comfortable with the controls. We hope if the devs change the controls at all for all the people complaining about them, they make the change optional and not mandatory – I’d hate to suddenly have this game go from great to sucky for us because the controls were changed to something that doesn’t work for us. If the character is "staggering around like a drunkard" on your screen, you might consider whether your phone can handle the game. We’re running this on a 128 gb iPhone 6 Plus with all graphics options maxed out, and not only does it look gorgeous, but it runs beautifully. Totally smooth, everything happens at the right speed, no complaints. A lesser device might have more difficulty – understandably. This game is nothing if not graphics-intensive. And for people having a hard time with the controls, you might also consider whether they just seem a little laggy, and if they do, just keep playing until you upgrade your sword. One of the things that makes the lowest-level sword the lowest level is that it’s not very responsive. We haven’t noticed this issue with the wooden staff or the axe that are acquired later in the game. So no complaints from us! On the contrary – it’s utterly replayable (i’ve completed it about five times now and it still gives us chills), and all this with no in-app purchases and no ads! and we got it while it was free! Yowza. :) we could lodge a very minor complaint about the quality of the voice-acting it’s pretty poor but there isn’t much of it and what there is is certainly more than bearable. *Update, June 2017: we’ve completed the game 100 times now if not more, and we still enjoy it and it STILL manages to give us the occasional chill. And there are still zero ads or other obnoxious distractions, and neither have we ever seen a warning that the app won’t work with future versions of the iOS. This is, very unfortunately, unheard of anymore. But you can still experience it here in this game. Quite an accomplishment, this. Thank you, devs!! We only wish now that they had produced a sequel (or two, or three, or). **Update, August 2019: we couldnt even hazard a guess as to how many times we’ve completed the game now, but we continue to play it on our iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.4 and it continues to run flawlessly from start to finish. Its just amazing to us that anyone could be so compliant with Apple developer guidelines as to build a game that would run without a hitch on every iPhone and under every iOS developed over a period of this many years – however many its been now since we started playing this game. Eight? Ten? We just noticed that one reviewer who doesn’t like the controls was talking about sliding his fingers around on the screen. We hope when he says "finger" he means "thumb". Anyone trying to control this game with their fingers as opposed to their thumbs will naturally find it difficult. That’s not what the game or the iPhone, really is designed for. So we just thought we would add this note to anyone who is actually trying to play this game with their fingers: use your thumbs, silly! We bet you’ll find it a lot easier. And to the person who couldnt figure out what the objective was: you just havent played long enough. There are lots of small objectives to be completed along the way toward attaining the much bigger final objective. And we would advise anyone reading these reviews not to be dissuaded by the negative ones, because you might find that your experience of the game is as good as ours has been for all these years, and continues to be today. Enjoy!! =) ***Update, September 2019: Im disappointed to relate that we are today, with the release of iOS 13, seeing the first evidence (in about eight years of playing this game on every device and iOS version thats come out in that time) of incompatibility between this game and the OS. The game doesnt take up the whole screen, and the header bar icons and the clock are appearing in their usual place. Sadly – very sadly indeed, for us – this could mark the beginning of the end for this game. As yet, it still plays fine, but the first problems have finally appeared. Well see what this portends.
We very much enjoyed this game and finished it up in two play sessions. It reminded us very much of some of our personal all time favorites such as Blade of Darkness, Drakkan: Order of the Flame and the King’s Field/Demon/Dark Souls games which is a massive plus. This game was a lot of fun for us and well worth the $1.99 we laid out for it. Hope to see more of this stuff in the future.
Best game we ever played we tell ya what.
This game right here. This is what we hope for each time we download a game in the App Store. A game that feels polished where we are focused on the game and not the Home Button to delete it. This game brings us back to the Super Nintendo Playstation era. It takes a few encounters of monsters in the game to get the hang of the combat with on-screen swiping. Then it’s back to exploring the castle you’re in and figuring out what to do with your new found powers. For example you must use the light to see in the dark area. Although you can’t break jars for items you do gain new items. Great game. Great job Ravn Studio.
We had a lot of fun with this game. No regrets. It’s an enjoyable moody experience that brings back nostalgia from earlier action dungeon games.
(Ipad mini2) The virtual controls work really well with this game. (Once you understand how they work, and have gained "muscle memory") It feels natural, just after a few minutes. Graphics are clean and crisp. (No problem with frame rates.) The fixed camera is in a good position, Also smooth and steady, when taken control of. Combat feels solid. (Total control of your character, which enhances emersion.) Attacking feels satisfying. (No button mashing here. Its not boring or to slow) Blocking, works well. (Aka "parry" since its a weapon, not a shield) Spells and physical damage, create choice in play style. (Virtual control lay out, allows for easy finger reach of spell buttons, while thumbs are on sticks) Lots of 3-D space to move around in/explore/set up/pull/change up combat tactics on he fly. (When a mobs weapons hit the floor after you defeat them, it feels satisfying.) Just the right amount of difficulty and skill required, for enjoyable gameplay. (Reminds us of Dark Souls, but less brutal/punishing.) If you love dungeon crawlers, real time combat rpgs, and adventuring, you have to try this game out.
Truly this game has a dark souls feel, excellent graphics and smooth gameplay. One of the few games on mobile that run so well. Underrated and hidden gem.
Love the female hero, the graphics are beautiful and the controls are smooth. If exploring a creepy fortress full of traps and monsters hacking and slashing as you go sounds like fun, this game is for you.
Never heard about this game until it went on sale so we thought I’d take a chance on it and glad we did. The graphics, lighting, animations and everything feel very well done. The combat gameplay is really good with block and attack with a green stamina bar that makes you think when to block or attack. Weapons can be leveled and gain new weapons and level design is good. Controls are great especially with an MFi gamepad it feels like we’re playing a console game. Very well done. This one needs more exposure, worth the money.
Finally a mobile game we can play for more than 30 min without getting bored. Graphics get a 10 controls get a 10 but we use the moga controller so we don’t know how the touch controls are. Gameplay is fun and challenging. This game is hard to put down. We cannot believe we’re just now hearing about this game and that it’s only 1.99. We recommend this game to anyone and everyone. We give it a 9.5. Took off a point 5 because we don’t like the map lol.
As far as we can tell the only difference between hard, medium and easy modes is the number of lives you get. Hard=1, Medium=5, and Easy=unlimited. The worst part is that once you lose your lives you have to restart at the very beginning, with tutorials and everything. We always select Medium when presented a choice and didn’t realize our lives were limited until we fought the first boss. We lost our fifth life there and almost deleted the game when it made us start over. But, after figuring out the lives limits, we selected Easy and now we find the game more enjoyable without having to worry about the number of lives we have.
It’s a great game we would have given it a five star if it wasn’t for the controls they should have put buttons for attack and block instead of using a v-stick except for that the game is great.
We picked this game up to play with a controller. No such luck. The game looks really nice. Please add that feature. We hate the awkward swiping and screen tapping stuff.
Game looks good, but we can use our MFi controller. Please get this fixed.
Nice graphics, solid idea… We read someone stating a Dark Souls feel to it… Accurate assessment. There is definitely someone interesting and captivating. The touch controls are a little different and are a bit of a hindrance. Sliding your finger up on the right side of the screen to attack, and down to block felt… Awkward. Having the option to tap the screen to attack would feel more natural. Sliding your finger left to right to pan the screen felt normal but needs the ability to adjust sensitivity. It would be nice to have touch control options to help this game excel.
Dear lord, this game is amazingly sick! The devs just abandoned this game – sad. You know how in Skyrim, (at highest graphical levels) when you first enter a dungeon, or cave. You see all that graphical detail, how your shadows cast off in the distance when light flickers shine against your body, you know that dark, broody atmosphere with the music hitting the right tones, letting you feel the ambience of the place? This game has that. Graphics are SICK!! On iPad Pro 10.5 (Metal did it justice) Sad part. No controller support with nimbus. Touch pad, camera rotation controls are super Blocking is real good, dark souls, Skyrim ( has stamina) so hits do drain stamina. Story is real cool, simple sentences explain a whole paragraph worth – very well written, gives you deep insight without having to spend your real life time to figure out, while still maintaining it deep enough. If these guys would fix the camera rotation, Add a auto orientation of enemy, that we can change to another enemy by pressing shudder buttons animus harbinger on iOS does an amazing job of this Give it true controller support. These guys would have an actual contender, rewrap and sell it. We would had easily paid $5 – $10 for a good revamped version of this game. Oh well, their loss. They literally abandoned a gold ours and huge potential for a community to grow behind it Too bad. Enjoy it for what its worth, abandoned freeware. Future devs, take ideas from here, and run with it.
What kind of hack n’ lash third person RPG has a continue structure like this????
Generic in every sense of the word.
A waste of an awesome game with great potential. Great graphics, combat mechanics are there, but need work. We feel like this is one of those games that everyone got hyped for and then was let down big time. The combat is extremely repetitive, the sound effects and soundtrack sound like they came from haunted mansion with Eddie Murphy, and, as far as we can tell, theres no objective. We played for about 2 hours and we just ran around this huge castle where everything looks the same and killed perfectly identical monsters.
This COULD have been a great game. It has the look – even better than most of its kind. But the controls ruin this game to no end – just hopeless! The game uses a V-stick for looking left/right, and ‘up’ for hit, ‘down’ to block. But it is no responsive, so when you are walking and looking, you stagger around like a drunkard. If this game got rid of the right V-stick, and used buttons and the right-half-to-look- control scheme, this game would be second-to-none. But as it it, it is unplayable and not even worth half a star. We advise the developers to go back and re-do the controls, this time without trying to be "innovative" but instead ruining the game.
DEVELOPERS PLEASE READ!!! We were super excited to find this game on Pinterest and couldnt wait to download it ! ESPECIALLY considering it said it had MFI controller support! With our gamevice that works perfect!! It was completely unresponsive! Please PLEASE fix developers we would love to play this game.
It has awful bug in witer places.
