Texas Moon – Card Game Review

Texas Moon is a Card/Casino game from Mike Emery, first launched in 11th August 2014.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 34+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Texas Moon Stand Out

Howdy, and welcome to Shoot the Moon! Moon is a trick-taking game similar to Spades or Bridge (or Texas 42), but is played with only 3 players. Each player guesses (bids) how many tricks they can win, and the opposing players attempt to prevent them from making it.

General Rules:
1: After drawing tiles, each player places their bid. The highest bidder sets which tiles act as trumps…a special kind of suit that beats any other kind of tile.

  1. The leading player may set down any tile he/she wishes. If a non-trump is played, the leading tile is highest number on the tile. Doubles are considered the highest tile of any suit. The rest of the players MUST follow suit if they can. If they do not possess any matching tiles, then they can play a trump. Otherwise, they will automatically lose the trick.

  2. A player may wish to “Shoot the Moon” with a bid of 21. They must win all the tricks in order to make this bid. Depending on the House Rules, a bid of 21 will end all bidding.

  3. If the winning bidder fails to make their bid, their bid will be subtracted from their overall score.

This Card game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

This is a greatTexas Moon app and we dont understand why there are so many negative comments. It works fine and follows the rules of Texas Moon. We love playing it.

Is this app available for android? We really am enjoying it thank you.

Really needs improvements. Especially when playing multiplayer.

Dont waste your time. App glitches and wont connect with other players.

Obviously the developers dont know how to play the game defensively. When you win the bid the defensive players do really dumb things like keeping the double blank while discarding the double six. And the dont know how to count cards which most players can do and a computer should have no problem doing. Hard to lose when the defense makes so many mistakes.

Please fix this junk. It freezes every single time us and our brother link up and play.

Some of the dominoes disappeared when the trick is over. Try to change names and keyboard will stay on the screen. Cannot play anymore unless we can get it out of the cloud and reload it . Works fine on our we pad? Also wont keep track of wins and losses . Cannot put names in because keyboard stayed op on the screen.

Unfortunately, we cannot get multiplayer to work at all. Once in a while another person can join one of our games, but they then get disconnected or the app sits at waiting to pick seats. The only option at that point is to quit the game. Tried on three different iPhones.

After playing 39 games with this Moon app, and years of playing Moon in Texas, we can assure you that this is a good app that is worth buying.

Enjoy playing the game, but this is not true Texas Moon. True rules (per every domino hall we played) follow us must lead with DOUBLE BLANK. Low bid is 5 not 4, that only for beginners. If you bid 5 (are whatever) and you make 6 are 7 you get ALL THE POINTS, not just your bid points. The game is 21 points to win but ONLY 21 in the hole, NO MORE. Also we don't see where you can double shout. We guess that would be Vegas rules.

Has glitches and isn't made according to the correct rules of moon. We only paid this much because we love moon. If you don't love it, don't buy this app.

We love the new game! Shoot the Moon has a great scoreboard feature so you can see a tally of wins and losses. It's a fun, fast-paced game, and challenging, too! Great job.

Defensive play needs help in two areas. When discarding they throw high doubles and save double Ace and Blank. Appears to be no intelligence at all. Next, if a defender has two trump, say the 4-6 and 4-2 he will always trump in with the highest leaving the other one useless. Also, once a player has all remaining tricks he should be able to "claim".

Can't play with friends that play on iPads cause theirs is "hd".

We'd like to see the "Shoot Creepers" option in the bidding: bidder takes no tricks. This bid can be overridden only by Shooting high (to take all tricks). If successful, bidder scores the same as if he'd shot high instead of low.

We're a big fan of the Texas 42 app, and this game is just as fun. Moon has helped us improve our bidding and the play is fast-paced but easy to follow. Great graphics and excellent AI. It's been a great way to pass the time over the holidays.

Absolutely love the look and feel of this app. It's a much quicker pace than 42 and you can play a full game in just a few minutes. Can't wait for multiplayer to come out.

We love playing the Texas 42 game, and we can tell we will fall in love with this game just the same. Thank you.
