What Makes The Queen's Gambit Chess Stand Out

Available exclusively for Netflix members.

Welcome to Beth Harmon's world. Take chess lessons, play puzzles and matches, or compete against friends online in this stunning love letter to the show.

From beginners to chess masters, this immersive chess experience pays homage to the award-winning drama and has something for everyone.

MAP YOUR CHESS PROGRESSION

• A beautifully rendered map of Beth's local haunts will act as your central hub throughout the game.

• Play custom games on 3D or 2D chess boards, track weekly game goals to earn rewards, learn your and friends' stats, access a chess lesson library and more through this central map.

SEE CHESS LIKE BETH

• Take advantage of the game's unique "Beth Vision" feature to visualize your next move or see threats on the board, just like Beth in the show.

LEARN TO PLAY CHESS IN MULTIPLAYER MODE OR SOLO

• Play chess matches with friends or play against sophisticated AI that replicates the playing level and style of your favorite characters.

• Multiplayer modes include: multiplayer online matchmaking, multiplayer online invite a friend, or in-person pass & play with a friend.

MEET UP WITH OLD FRIENDS AND FAMILIAR FACES

• Learn chess with Mr. Shaibel, engage in chess matches with Borgov or challenge Beth to matches in the park. Checkmate.

LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF CHESS

• Are you a beginner, or just need a lingo refresher? Use the in-game glossary to learn new terms or track ones you've already learned.

• Track everything from move evaluations (book, blunder, mistake) to general terms (checkmate, ranks, files) and advanced terms (fianchetto, pins, fork) as you play.

FUN WAYS TO PLAY, LEARN CHESS AND LEVEL UP

• Pick a skill level and take chess lessons at a pace that's right for you. Players are able to pick from three different levels of increasing difficulty (novice, intermediate, advanced).

• Make a mistake? Try again by taking advantage of the "undo" feature in the game. You can also analyze your moves by pressing the "review" button to learn from mistakes, improve your movements and take advantage of missed opportunities.

• Collect custom postcards and earn unique rewards for your profile to show off to your friends.

• Complete a variety of puzzles to gain the skills you need to play like a master of chess.

  • Created by Rockwater Games, a Ripstone Studio.

This Strategy game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

The app consistently has trouble connecting to the server, and there is zero support from the developer. We really like the game, but not being able to use the online features is very frustrating.

Updated: The graphics are beautiful and Ive learned a lot. That said, there is room for improvement, and we are reducing our rating from 4 to 3 after completing all the puzzles, for the following reasons: First, one can get stuck in a puzzle indefinitely if they dont figure it out. Additionally, practice games let you reverse and try different moves up until you lose, but then the game ends so quickly one doesnt have time to see/understand why they lost if it wasnt obvious. Character comment bubbles appear too frequently, often lingering and obstructing ones view of the board and slowing down play (turning off emotes in settings it doesnt appear to do anything, at least not on our iPhone 16). Most bothersome is that sometimes, esp. When playing Mr. Shaibel, we will be one move from what appears an inevitable win, but the game suddenly ends and says you lost with no explanation. In these instances, we have not timed out and typically the opposing AI only has their king left or at least very few pieces, so it isnt that they snuck up on our king or something. Our thinking is that these might be accidental draws, e.g. We placed a piece wrong when going for check mate, but the game response is you lost instead of draw. Lastly, very recently, when we log into the app, as well as every time we try to play someone online, we get an error message saying that something went wrong and to check our internet connection when our internet connection is fine, or, that there was a problem connecting to the server. Because of this, we have been unable to try the play online feature, which is disappointing, since we have completed all the puzzles. This leaves playing with the AIs as our only option. The AI games are still fun, but right now, none of them are a great match for our current skill level, being either too difficult or too easy, depending on the character and skill setting.

Very enjoyable way to spend time.

This app has allowed us to learn so much as a new chess player.

We enjoy playing chess. Since we were teenager this is what we were looking for. Never imagined Netflix would provide such a great game this way on Netflix though never would come up a game like this.

This game helped us a lot to regain our talent of playing chess, we love playing this game anytime we can. Chess is a wonderful sport, we personally watched the Queens Gambit and we love it. Chess can also be beautiful. Its an entire world of just 64 squares Beth Harmon. We have been playing chess since we were 4 years old but when we turned 11 is when we stared dedicating our life to chess Thank you so much.

This game was designed very well and we love how you learn to play chess if you have never learned or just do not play as much.

Love the way that the game continuously teaches you and keeps it entertaining, the effort in the animations and everything is on point.

We are thoroughly enjoying the game, which alone makes Netflix worth the subscription. We are doing it from scratch, because we never took real lessons.

This is a very good chess app! We love the lessons, only the better chess apps go to that length. Its improved our game a lot over a short period of time and did it in a fun way. Great job on the game Netflix.

Love this for a while and our 6 year old learned to play w the app. A couple of weeks ago, it would not open anymore. Delete and download again, still not work. Dang. It was good while it lasted.

We just bought this app but every time we opened it up it crashes and then we go back to our Home Screen. We want to give this app a try and avoid a refund we need help. Our wife has the Netflix account if thats helpful.

Update: broken again we dont need all the animation, but the feedback in AI games is great. Much more clinical and gamified, but similar to what you get from Dr. Wolf. The 3D boards are a cool concept, but too fiddly on our small screen.

Great game but it crashes every time we try to launch it. This started happening iOS 18.4 beta.

Just recently getting back into chess and is a lot more interactive than Chess.com.

We think they are doing really good with this game on teaching you how to use each move and each piece to your advantage.

We love the show, was great to play the game.

El juego us encant, ya yo us vi la seria de tambo to de dama y fue increble pero el juego est mejor, te ensea arjedrez y al mismo tiempo te dice de la historia de la chico prodigio.

We just ate a couple thc gummys and went to town relearning to play chess.

We clicked our account to play and it took us back to our home menu kinda disappointed us but its alright.

Great game but the colors and shapes are atrocious especially if u have a color blindness. Also the labels overlap on the board.

Awesome learning thank you so much.

Very elaborate and enjoyable way to play and learn chess.

Its been years since we played chess. This was a fun way to remember.

This game does a fantastic job teaching new players how to play the game and how to bet better.

We loved the show and thought what a cool way to for someone to learn.

This is such a great game our daughter has been asking us to teach her how play and this game has been so good to do so thanks.

Absolutely love this game! The lessons are really helping improve how we play.

Its something that could help us a little bit in chess Im not to good at it.

Ill learn more here than anywhere else, its so helpful and really does teach you.

We feel like Im learning from the best in a cool Queens Gambit vibe.

It is refreshing to be taught chess skills with the chess terminology and not having to pay for it. Thank you.

This game seems to be the perfect way to learn from scratch. Thank you for also making it visually pleasing.

We have been playing chess all our life and loved the series.

If you love Queens Gambit and want to learn to play chess, this is a great game to start with.

We were playing another chess game and this is literally 100 times better we like the educational aspect Im a millennial and we used to read books on how to play chess better but can never improve the way that this game can teach us.

Bring this game to steam, its probably going to be more comfortable playing with the mouse. Unless you have an iPad. Also, we think there should be an option of hints like chess.com Overall Im impressed with the game & we loved the series.

Great graphics and content as Im learning a lot.

Love the multiple ways of leaning how to play chess. The lessons are in bite size portions and presented in a fun way. The integration with the series makes it lively. Big fan of this app.

We love the show and this is a very fun way to learn chess. Im new to the game and getting the hang of it.

This a very good game especially how you take through the whole season while Teaching.

Very good app, includes cosmetics, lessons, games versus different AI opponents, and online play. Aesthetics and material are both satisfying.

Graphics and tests are well done. We have had a hard time clicking and moving spaces sometimes.

We knew most of the moves of each player all our life but had no understanding of the game and its strategies. Our 27 year old son has played chess for years but we dont play him as we always lose. Watching Queens Gambit several times we realized that playing well takes study, practice, keen observation along with a memory for strategy. Your app is a good start for us to begin. At 77 years old, Im really enjoying the process. Also, the graphics and building blocks for learning the game are super.

We are excited to be in the tv show world and learn how to play chess.

Im learning chess at our own pace. The lessons are encouraging and soon we will be ready to win against our chess-playing friends.

We love the game but we wish it would explain why we made a right to wrong move so we can see as Im learning.

The story and games are very motivating to sharpen our chess skills.

We swear its very entertained and they trying to explain you in a simple way.

We love chess, and wanted to become better, we dont have time to set aside to learn with others, but this app teaches you in such a fun way! Plus we loved the queens gambit.
