The Wanderer: – Puzzle Game Review
![]()
The Wanderer: is a Puzzle/Adventure game from ARTE France Apps, first launched in 20th November 2019.
It’s rated 9+ and currently has 10+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes The Wanderer: Stand Out
A fresh look at the myth of Frankenstein
Play as the Creature, a wanderer without memory or past, a virgin spirit in a completely fabricated body. To forge the destiny of this artificial being who is ignorant of both Good and Evil, you will have to explore the vast world and experience joy and sorrow.
Dr. Frankenstein's founding myth is once again revealed in all its glory through the innocent eyes of his creature. A thousand miles from the horror stories, here is a sensitive wander in the shoes of a pop icon.
A breathtaking artistic direction
Imbued with a dark romanticism, the game's universe draws its astonishing beauty from 19th century paintings. Through evolving landscapes, the boundary between reality and fiction fades and the novel comes to life. Powerful and original, the soundtrack highlights the Creature's feelings of wanderlust.
Explore your emotions and write your story
One choice after another, feel your way towards your destiny. Confronted with humans, you will no longer be able to escape the question of your origins. Who gave you life? This introspective quest will take you on an adventure across Europe. Bitter or pleasant, your experiences will bring you closer to the truth. Will you be ready to face it?
The Wanderer: Frankenstein's Creature is the new video game from La Belle Games, co-produced and published by ARTE, the cultural European TV and digital channel.
Features:
• Rediscover a pop culture icon through 18 paintings, in a point & click narrative game
• Your actions will shape the end of your story, choose carefully
• Landscapes evolve according to the creature's emotions
• A unique atmosphere thanks to a staggering soundtrack
This Puzzle game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
We didnt experience any bugs, music is beautiful and goes perfectly with the story. Great game.
This is a beautiful game so far. We have gotten to COLLIS. This game focuses on the Creature (who we have chosen to call Wanderer), who searches for a refuge. It could be a bit difficult to play on mobile, but you get the hang of it. When playing, you have to make sure you have finished the chapter (you can tell this when words appear, naming the chapter). If you havent finished the chapter, it restarts. Most chapters take 10-30 minutes to finish. We have read other reviews, claiming that they have been stuck in the cottage in the chapter FAMILIA. We report that we have not experienced this, leading us to believe that the developers have fixed it. We would definitely recommend this game if you are prepared to sit and play for half-an-hour, more if you want to play more than one chapter.
We just downloaded this game and its so beautiful and addicting! Theres just one problem, right when we get to the part where Im in Dr. Frankensteins house.. We crash when we go to view whatever is on his desk. Then we have to redo the whole segment and view everything else in the house before we can try to click on it again. Our phone can definitely handle the game (its an iPhone 11) so Im not sure why its doing this. We cant progress the story because of it.
Beautiful game, a couple of glitches but over all it was a nice experience.
This game is beautiful, the art, music, and story are wonderful. It is immersive, basically an interactive story but your consequences lead to one of at least 4 endings. Its very slow, but that is on purpose. Its meant to set the mood. One hint in a puzzle that is hard, in the lab you should click on words as you are reading the various books, then read Elizabeths letter to lead you to the book that is important.
This story is so touching! The music and colors were incredible. Totally would recommend.
The whole story is beautifully done. There is nothing hard about this game. Patience and click everything. Playing back through what we missed and changing the course of our decisions. Looking forward to more from this developer! We need more non-linear games like this.
Game is amazing and beautiful but it kicks us out right after the chapter where the villagers turn on you early in the game. The app is up to date and we are running the newest version of iOS 12 on our 6+. The game says it should work on our phone.
Beautifully done, amazing music, great story. Bummer part is it locks up in random places and requires you to redo an entire chapter once you restart. Also had many instances of the game slowing to a crawl and also requiring a restart. Incredibly unstable game for being the current #1 in puzzle category.
This game is absolutely beautiful and we are genuinely upset that we cannot continue to play it unless we start over on the same (very long) chapter for the third time. The game keeps glitching out, first in spring when talking to the family, then in winter after chopping wood. The chapters take at least 20 minutes to get through as there are many dialogue lines and animations and tasks for each, and the game does not save until you get through the whole thing. It is too frustrating to sit through everything yet again and we suspect if we did try to do that it would just glitch out on us again. Such a shame we really love the game itself but due to the bugs it was a complete waste of money.
Wonderful game with beautiful landscapes and moving music. However, game continually freezes at the end of Familia chapter. (3 attempts – there isnt going to be a fourth because to get to that part of the game is quite time consuming). We made sure to have ample space on our phone and restarted it in hopes of fixing this. Nothing worked. Very disappointed as we spent money on this.
The game runs well now the part we previously would crash on no longer does this. Thank you very much.
Thank you for fixing the issue! This game is beautiful and we love that we can play it over and over again and we can change the path the character takes. Wonderful game.
Game was crashing but the dev quickly fixed it. Really beautiful story so far and psychologically interesting. Very curious how it ends.
Really enjoy the graphics, reminds us of a painting.
The game is beautifully crafted, that being said Ive had to play a chapter several times (the familia) because it freezes right after winter. The game doesnt save until you complete the chapter which takes what seems like twenty minutes. This is obviously quite frustrating as we purchased this game. Im afraid we dont have the tenacity to complete it after the third time Ive had to start over so we cannot give the game five stars tho the artists and sound engineers definitely deserve it. If the game was more user friendly and less buggy it would be completely worth paying money for. As for now Id say wait until the issues are fixed before purchasing.
We love this game, the art is beautiful and the story is as magnificent as ever. Our only real criticisms are that sometimes its hard to know where precisely to move, and that we cant find the soundtrack anywhere, we really love that and would be willing to purchase it if we could find it somewhere.
Im a sucker for misunderstood monsters, so a game featuring Frankensteins creature instantly hooked us. Beautiful art and music, with simple gameplay that stays out of the storys way. Highly recommended.
So far the game is very enjoyable. The way the story unfolds is beautifully told. However, in the beginning we were confused on what we needed to do to progress in the story. So a little direction would have been great, we did figure it out in the end. Although through trial and error for about 20 minutes we got the jest of it. We have came across a few glitches in the game some that was not so bad. But near setting out to the end of the world island is when it all the aggravation began. The game would just glitch and kick us out, but was it so bad at the beginning, but every time we got to the Scripturam Chapter and make it into the house and getting ready to click on something it kicks us out of the game and we have to begin the chapter all over. We have gave it over 7 chances and can not progress any further.
Thus far, our experience with The Wanderer has been nothing short of ethereal and magnificent. The characterization of Frankensteins creature is just as pure and heartfelt as displayed within the literary classic it hails from. On top of that, the games animation and overall design are a treat to witness, and has some of the highest quality Ive ever seen within App Store. The storytelling and pacing is quick but readily addictive; once we started the story, we were too enthralled able to stop playing until we reached an unfortunate game crash once we reached Victors shack after Amphitrite spurned the Wanderers feelings. We saw that another player within the reviews experienced the same crash as we did. While we operated on different platforms (they operated from an IPad Pro), we personally operate the game from an IPhone X under iOS 13.3 and experienced the same problem. We hope our software information was also an aid in helping fix this bug. We truly adore your rendition of this classic gothic piece, and firmly believe you do the Creatures narrative justice with your App. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful game with a great storyline and controls. But game keeps crashing at the beach cliff house. We have the game installed on iPad w/ everything updated and refreshed…… Still after trying everything cannot continue past this point….. Please fix.
An artistic masterpiece, thank you developers for a great experience well worth it in our opinion. Please continue to innovate.
We hesitate to even call this a game. It is part game, part interactive story. It is beautifully rendered and utterly moving. Really a masterpiece. We do not understand why it isnt an Apple favorite. We loved every minute.
First off, this game is visually lovely and the degree of choice is a welcome addition. Our only complaint is the crashing: Ive replayed Homine five times only to have the game crash just as The Wanderer is escaping the village and disappearing into the forest (playing on iOS 12.4.4 on our trusty 6s). Team, youve created a surreal, heartfelt gem please debug it so you can rake in those well-deserved 5 stars.
The artwork is beautiful and the story is great. However, we cant get past the house on the beach/cabin. The game keeps crashing. Its seems that a few others are having issues as well, hopefully its fixed soon. Would love to finish this game.
Hello, we love your game, its beautiful and a refreshing take on Frankenstein. However after the scene where the villagers chase us out of the village the sound of the loading screen comes on but not the symbol, then it kicks us out and we have to start that scene all over again. Can you please explain why this is happening? Thank you. (our IPad is an IPad air if that may have anything to do with it).
We love this interactive story, but we cant get past the part where we look through his lab on the beach before it kicks us out to our home screen every time. Would love to keep reading.
We love this game! The only thing is that after we reach the end of Homines the game crashes and we have to restart resulting in us not being able to reach the next scene… Could you please fix this.
This is such a beautiful game and we were fully immersed but the game keeps shutting down when we reach scripturam stage. Please fix this otherwise Ill need a refund.
This game is visually stunning. Its score is breathtaking. But unfortunately we hit a game breaking bug that wont let us solve the door puzzle in Originem. :( Looking forward to future fixes.
This game is absolutely beautiful and the storyline is interesting, but there are still many bugs that need to be fixed. It is constantly glitching, and a lot of times even crashes. The glitches are fixable by restarting the game, but it doesnt save automatically so you have to start over whichever part you were on! We are quite annoyed paying for this when Im unable to even finish the game due to it crashing whenever we try to move on to the next part. Definitely not worth $5.00 if this is happening to everyone.
