A Glimpse into Trivia Bowl Buzzer
Trivia Bowl Buzzer is perfect for any fast-paced, Jeopardy!-style trivia competition (many such competitions are called Scholars’ Bowl, Quiz Bowl, or Academic Bowl). Players use separate devices to buzz into the Game Host’s device. Upon buzzing, the Player’s device sounds and vibrates, and the Game Host’s device indicates which Player has buzzed in, while preventing all other Players from buzzing in.
This app uses Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) capabilities to connect multiple iOS devices (which act as buzzers) to a central hub, eliminating the need for wired buzzer systems.
THEREFORE, Trivia Bowl Buzzer is compatible only with the following devices:
- iPhone 4S and more recent
- iPod Touch 5 and more recent
- iPad 3 and more recent
- iPad Mini (all models)
- iPad Pro (all models)
Note that devices running Version 1.0 will not be compatible with devices running Version 2.0 as a result of the added functionality in Version 2.0. It is therefore necessary that all devices update to the newest version of Trivia Bowl Buzzer.

This app seems to work very well although to host a game you have to upgrade. Players can use the free app. We’ve had a couple of instances that the players were disconnected but it was easy enough to reconnect. The time and score functions are great in the host upgrade and we look forward to a few tweaks that will add to the value of the app for any quizbowl type event or game.
We recommend this app for anyone part of, or running, a trivia group. It works just as described.

We have used this app for our academic bowl teams practices for several years. We have purchased the host version for three different devices (my iPhone, a school iPad, and a substitutes iPhone). All of a sudden the app will not open. When we try it flashes open and closes immediately. We went to the App Store and reloaded it, but it wants us to purchase the host version again. How can we use this app without purchasing it again?
Seems pretty good! We bought host version and so far so good!
Good for scholars bowl competitions, but we wouldn’t say that we’re blown away.
Love the app. It’s only annoying that it forces you to review it and asks every time you open the app.
Preliminary thoughts: Awesome how it notifies you who buzzed in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as grant points or subtract points. Dislike that it required us to provide a review before continuing to use the app. (Purchased app for the host version)
This seems like a nice tool – but if you are the host and your screen goes to sleep the connection is broken and all players must reconnect. This seems like something g that should be addressed.
We just downloaded and paid for the host version of the buzzer app. We are a classroom teacher and really hoping to be able to display the buzzer through our Apple TV in the horizontal mode. The app will currently only display portrait, which doesnt allow for students to see clearly. Is there any way this could be updated? We are using this for jeopardy style games, and the buzzer is essential for our competitive class as they want to be able to clearly see who buzzed in first before running out of time to answer.
The game was fickle and only allowed some students access. If one closed out of the app or let their screen go to sleep, they were removed from the game. Great idea but a lot of bugs that need to be fixed.
Tried to use this for quiz bowl practice, but some phones didnt work and couldnt find host, if it could find the host, it couldnt press continue. DONT BUY THIS APP.
10 minutes of troubleshooting and still couldnt get this to work for 2 teams.
We paid for the game host feature but the app had lots of bugs. 1) the connection dropped for some players occasionally and to add them back, the whole game needs to restart and everyone need to reconnect. The app should remember all the players and their scores and allow players to reconnect if disconnected. 2) the connection should not disconnect if the screen sleeps. Specially for game host, it should remember last setting and continue rather that restart the game. If the above two issues are resolved, then it would be an excellent app for jeopardy or other group games.
Purchased the host version to use in our classroom. Once we set up a game, there is no actual discoverable game. We cannot see any teams, and the teams cannot see any discoverable games. App seems unresponsive. Very frustrated with this app and we want our money back.
We tried to use this product several times. It never worked with over 6 individuals. Every time your phone monitor hibernates for being idle for one minute you lose the whole game. Too many challenges to be efficient or worthwhile.
It spoilt our game night!!! We all left the games frustrated.
We paid for the host and we created a host. When the players select the host, the host is unable to see any of the players. This app is completely unusable even after paying. We need. A full refund!!!
We bought host vet in one of our iPhones and hosted a game, when we Try to join as a player from our other iPhone under Find host screen the game comes by default selected and the continue button is grayed out/not active to click. Now a we have paired for this app but not able to use it.
We can see the host, but its not letting us connect by pressing continue.
Nice idea but it constantly drops players. It freezes and needs to be reset. Save time and look elsewhere.
Purchased the ability to host and it would not connect to the other players. All phones being used were current iPhone Pro models.

We tried to use this with 4 devices (one host, 3 players). One of the players has a greater out button when trying to select the game host. Essentially we just burned $2.99+tax. We want a refund.
This app didn’t work! We bought the host function but there was no way to actually use it! The instructions said to start by creating a game name, but there was not an option to even do that. Very dissatisfied – this app literally just stole our money. Shouldn’t even be approved.
Just what we were looking for. Was a bit uncertain when we saw the low marks for version 2.0, but all those problems seem to be fixed in the newer one. The bluetooth connection makes everything so easy (no need for wifi!!!). Great for any trivia night or anything like that!

We used this app to create buzzers for a game at a staff retreat. There are no setup instructions, which was the only downside, but it was so easy it didn’t matter. Designate all devices as peripheral except one, make sure all devices have Bluetooth turned on, and as soon a you set one device as central, you’ll be able to see the other devices in the area.
Great app for doing quizbowl competitions….. Works flawlessly and easy to set up and run!
