What Makes Troll Patrol Stand Out
"A Troll's Tale – Troll Patrol" is a puzzle game which combines the tile-matching and RPG genres by offering a unique experience: Play as the last defender of the threatened troll den where vicious village people and heroes from far away castles and kingdoms knock down your door.
Stand firm, take whatever weapon is close and fight them off to get your family and friends to safety. Protect what is rightfully yours, your home, your heritage. They come for blood, for revenge, to still their blood thirst. But you won't allow it.
More and more enemies pour through the broken door and by connecting them to sword tiles you can fight them off. Once you get hit you can connect potions to heal your wounds or connect shields to improve your armor. Connecting gold might lead to new treasures that help you defend what is yours and keep their filthy hands of your stuff.

Community Insight:
It is not just a faithful reproduction of our old all-time favorite game, Dungeon Raid, but it is quite rather a love letter to the game with many expanded features beyond the original! We were trying to decide between this app and a Chinese knock off. This app lets you play a lite version of the full game for free. Its charm and mechanics got us hooked. We bought the full version without hesitation.
So we started our second run clicking a no peasant challenge no knowing what it is. We die instantly over and over with no hope of success and no way to remove it without paying money to remove it. So basically we cant play the game and dont have the desire to pay for a game that does give us the ability to restart without paying them.
You need to replenish your health, but the game cheats and never gives you enough potions or places potions to where they cannot be selected in threes or more. Everything else you can match 3 or more, just the potions you cant. Its absolutely ridiculous and probably designed this way. Not only that, you destroy the peasants and like 10 of them appear on the screen making for a AI cheating fest where they attack you and there is no way to recover. We think we last less than 25-30 seconds until Im dead. Such promise and a stolen idea from the developer who created Dungeon Raid, which is FAR superior in every way, at least that game gave you a chance. This game, doesnt. Its not fun if you have to keep restarting after every 30 seconds or so. Thankfully this was free and you can buy it if you want. Our recommendation, dont buy it. Its not worth the hassle or frustration. The developer make this game so far from fun and he caused the AI to cheat that you will throw your iPad clear across the room. Waste of a download, but thankfully not real money. Glad he lets you try it out first. He gets his one star from that.
But have to let everyone know!! This is Dungeon Raid, people!! The all-time best match-3, roguelike, rpg, bare-bones, with a sense of humor, chillest, most strategic, best iOS game of all time and we have spent years trying to find any old phone of ours that is still working and has it installed bc we miss it so! Troll Patrol has everything DR had, plus more metagame stuff like choosing long term quest types or permanent stat ups through cave decor. Instead of the DR randomized opening origin story theres now randomized interstitial events that often give you choices that seriously help or hurt you for at least a wave. Devs, thank you. Its obviously you were fans of DR too, and youve given us an all time fave back, but new and improved! You really made it your own, while keeping everything that made DR so great. (The one thing we can say we preferred in the OG were the graphics. DR had this polished, simple look to the tiles that wasnt isometric or retro or anime or 3D but really its own, and youve alllllllmost captured it but it feels a little too hand drawn for our personal taste. We like the character descriptions being hand drawn though!) we only had to play this for like, a day, before we bought the No-Ads bc we know Im going to be playing this for literally literally years, just like DR. Also: if you stop updating this game and disappear, us and all the fellow DR-heads will be forced to hunt you down like puny unarmed goblins and give you a strongly worded letter. Thank you.
Happily paid for this. Great game, so nice to have dungeon raid esque gameplay back in our life! This is deeper too! Our one and only complaint is we cant stand how every time we do an attack or kill an enemy, those floating words of sneak attack or hp leeched etc appear. It just crowds the screen and gets in the way of seeing the board turn after turn. Is there a way to turn those floating words off? Otherwise 5 stars.
We absolutely love this game… Maybe a little too much (its eating our life!). Ive always preferred this kind matching game, the kind where you draw a line to connect as many matching items as possible rather than switching items in standard match-3 style. We like how much more control and strategy this kind of game gives you because things dont just happen via explosions and random matches like they do In all the zillions of match-3s. That said, since we know we really like this type of game, we have sought out and at least tried pretty much all of them. Our previous favorite was Good Knight Story. But sadly, we reached the end of the game ages ago and it seems unlikely theyre ever going to expand it. It also includes RPG elements, but in a different way. Some other games with different themes are really good, but eventually the puzzles become (at least for us) impossible to complete without spending actual cash. Troll Patrol is just the Holy Grail as far as Im concerned. There is only one REQUEST we WOULD MAKE OF THE DEVELOPER, and its a do this more, please not a fix this, dammit. Every once it a while between waves of attackers, or maybe its when you level up, these cards will pop up, and you pick one to reveal a scenario a troll might encounter while defending its cave from marauding humans. Then you click on a choice of response. Based on that response, theres a reward, a penalty, or nothing happens. We really like these! We think they add a lot to the rpg/dungeon delving atmosphere of the game. Personally, we wish they popped up at EVERY new wave or level up. We think it would make the game even more interesting. And if some people dont like the randomness it adds to the game, maybe it could be an preference you can turn on/off. Oh! And last but definitely not least, Troll Patrol is really-and-truly free (THANK YOU!!). Its ad-supported in a very user-friendly way where ads dont interrupt you in the middle of a game. You also have the option of watching a couple of ads to get extra things, but you do NOT have to watch adds just to have a chance of success. Finally, you can also pay $1.99 to remove ads entirely. DO IT! The developer deserves the money and the pat on the back! GREAT JOB WITH TROLL PATROL.
We were obsessed with Dungeon Raid and while Troll Patrol lacks the cool groaning skulls from DR, it more than makes up for it with engaging/addictive gameplay, silliness and tons of extras that DR never had. Thanks a lot for bringing an old favorite to light.
Its enjoyable to a point, but we cant seem to get past wave 2 or 3 no matter what we do, so even though its fun its starting to get frustrating. Our character just isnt strong enough and good matches dont come up. Also we finally found a blueprint but then it disappeared. We assume it doesnt save things like that unless you make it past wave 5, which we cant seem to do. We dont know what Im missing. We like the idea of this game but it seems way too hard. Ive read tutorials and online help and that didnt really help that much. We dont see how other players are getting so far in the game. Ill give it time for maybe a rebalancing. Maybe this game just isnt for casual gamers. Im good at other match games though. Just not this one.
The game is constantly registering that Ive removed our finger from the screen even when we havent, thus constantly cutting chains short. Frustrating to say the least. IPad Pro 12.
Definitely reminds us of the masterful classic Dungeon Raid but since it looks like that will never be updated to be playable again this fills a void that Ive had in our life for years. We havent seen any ads yet, which is refreshing since most app developers seem more concerned about making money than making a good game, but Im happy to pay a measly $2 to support this developer for making for such a great game. Id recommend adding ads after each wave or something, we think that would be fair and we doubt most people would complain.
^ title If you loved DR, you will enjoy this game. Huge props for making it see light man.
Even better than the long lost beloved Dungeon Raid? Smooth, clever and seemingly even more RPG elements than its obvious inspiration, well done! Ads only after your inevitable defeat, but we quickly paid to remove those. Pretty excited to start unlocking stuff.
