Community Insight:
We loved playing through the first time, but was really mad when we died and found out you loose all your cards and start all over. The learning curve was big mainly because we had to guess how to select something or move the game forward. Card games like this should allow you to build and keep your own deck.
Ive been playing this on and off for over a year and still keep coming back. We recently won runs with all 4 base characters on we+70 (just in time for the new 5th character). We love how each characters plays so differently. The amount of depth and freedom in building your deck is incredible, and the Instability system is such a smart way to customize the challenge. Honestly feels like a steal for the price. Easily one of the best deckbuilders out there.
This is a fantastic and unique roguelite deckbuilder.
Its a lot of fun, and visually impressive. The information overload at the start is frustrating for a while though. Theres also a lot of relics taking up space that have useless effects like gain 20 block on your 4th turn every battle. Definitely need to remove or just tighten them up. Note to dev: Also we end up purging cards when we meant to play them, and vice versa. It happens more when theres only one enemy, so an option to play a card by flinging it to the left when theres only 1 enemy would be great.
The cards do the play animation when you just tap on them. How much damage an enemy will do is displayed via circle, and how much energy they have is depicted on a sword. We don't really know how to say it. This is a good game, but it gives us a headache, especially if we're swapping between this, Slay the Spire, and Dawncaster.
Only thing we ask that you guys add is more dev support packs, genuinely would buy a pack that doesnt have any card backs or anything just to support the devs because you guys made an absolute banger.
On iPhone 11, this game displays with black bars on the left, preventing a full-screen experience. This is a major annoyance, particularly for players with OCD. Is there a fix in development.
We like the game, and we think it has a ton of potential, but we find it to be very frustrating because the mobile experience often causes cards to accidentally trigger when Im just trying to read them. We feel like there should be an option to adjust the activation of cards so double tapping them doesnt activate, and instead dragging them to the appropriate target does (for self-targeting cards just use the top of the screen); this is basically how StS handles it and Ive put hundreds of hours into that game on mobile with almost no accidental activation. Ive put maybe 5 hours on this game and we accidentally activate cards at least twice a run, which is really annoying. We would love to play this game more and update our review if this one issue was addressed.
Excellent optimization, phenomenal developer, great game. We rank this alongside Slay the Spire, Dawncaster, and Monster Train as one of the best roguelike deckbuilders available on the AppStore. Well worth the price tag.
Likely would be fun for hardcore CCG/TCG players but we found it so clumsy that we barely finished the first round of combat. The game mechanics and the UI are inelegant at best and at worst they are insensible. The devs obviously care about the game so we mean no disrespect – we wonder if maybe their expertise is in card games and not in mobile games.
This game takes our favorite genre and fixes the only thing we dislike about rogue-likes: The ability to plan and build a deck that can also be tuned when you come across enemies that are weak to your chosen build. There are still enough RNG elements to make every run unique and fun, and the class mechanics are fun. Note to devs: Im playing on a large version iPad and sometimes some text gets cut off on the far right of the screen. Not a show stopper, just a small detail.
Heard of this game from Dawncaster, and let us say their recommendation did NOT disappoint. The animations are great, building your deck is very much in your control and less rng oriented, and the class playstyles are very fun to play and experiment with. Im always on the lookout for great deck builders, as many are free to play and the ones that arent are usually smaller in scope or horrible balanced, games like Vault of the Void and Dawncaster really are the height of premium deck building experiences, definitely will support further to see what content and updates they add if any, for $7 the asking price is more than fair, you can tell there was a lot of work put into this.
This game is awesome. Our only complaint is that the tiering system isnt as gradual as Slay the Spire and Monster Train. But as a whole Vault of the Void is on par with those games as far as graphics (superior), gameplay, synergies, strategies, breadth, and depth. Great job to the creator.
Slay the Spire walked, so Vault of the Void could run. Highly recommend.
Good game, but ran into a strange bug. Skills were working fine, but now no matter what we do we cant get any to work on any character. Not sure what happened, but trying to play the game without being able to use a characters skill makes the game less enjoyable. If that bug is fixed, though, definitely a 5 star game.
Is there any possible way youd be willing to make this game accessible to low vision or blind users. We assumed that this game would be accessible like Dawncaster. We enjoy rogue, like deck, builder games, if they are accessible.
Continuing on from the title, from all the positive reviews, we thought okay, Ive gotta know if they paid for their reviews Nope, its legit. This game is [expletive deleted] AWESOME!! If youve ever played Slay the Spire, its kind of like that, with WAY BETTER mechanics in our opinion. We love it.. Honestly. 5 stars all day.
Im really enjoying the game. Better than slay the spire for sure. Characters are really different from each other. A lot of variance through each play through. No in app purchases Wouldnt hurt to add more things too unlock even though they mostly cosmetic.
We bought VAULT OF THE VOID FOR APPLE. We have a problem in terms of synchronization problems when it is through the Apple cloud. Has anyone had the same problem? Also with the keyboard of our iPad m4 the keyboard gives problems only with that game. When one uses the trackpad it does not respond to commands, it is only in that game.
Problem is the text is so microscopic in size we cant read any of the details needed to play the game!! What a bummer.
We bought this game solely because we just happen to see it in the top paid Card games in the AppStore, not knowing anything about it. The end result, Wow! Will update with full review within a week of this post.
If youre a fan of slay the spire, buy this. Its different, and its VERY polished. Has a 9/10 on steam. Just freakin buy it.
Things Ive appreciated so far: Solid and diverse puzzle dynamics in enemy setups. Ability to plan deck archetype by virtue of being able to see card rewards in advance of choosing enemy encounters. we consider reactive blocking a substantial improvement over the traditional preemptive style. Design clearly prioritizes UI. Map movement is somewhat nuanced over the traditional tree structure, but selection UI makes the consequences of your choice quite clear. Readability is quite good for our aging vision on our iPhone 13 Pro. Given other peoples comments, perhaps theres a flaw in the scaling for higher res phones? Ive only played the bleed/combo archetype so far, which is solid, but we can see the developer put some thought into organically branching specializations. Upgrades, rather than being an integer increment, are a one-time revamp of the card. The changes can be quite substantive in terms of utility.
