Fixed a build problem with Zagor’s Maze

Warlock of Firetop Mountain Reviews

Update: Reported problem. Received very responsive email from Neil. Problem fixed and update sent in just one day. Great support. Update star ratings back to 5 for this supurb game. Game frashes going into maze. Sent report. Cleared all memory. No help. This is incredible game whe works. Started after update from yesterday, though we never reached this far before so dont know if that is cause. Once fix il update this very special game to 5 stars. It is brilliant!

Look great but we haven’t landed a hit yet. In this game you don’t attack a space occupied by the opponent, instead you attack a space you think the opponent will go. Sound confusing? It is.

Back in the day with so few choices for solo roleplay, adventure books seemed like a way to experience an RPG when there was no D&D game happening. Today there are so many better solo options to scratch the RPG itch, so why play a trial and error adventure game with somewhat random combat? Nostalgia perhaps, but replaying the same adventure over and over trying to remember the right moves is exactly the downside of those adventure books that modern tech should be used to overcome, not enshrine. Game books were tiresome then, and now it is no different, except for the fact that there are so many way better game choices out there. Cool graphics cannot hide very mediocre gameplay. Time better spent elsewhere.

We would give this game 5 stars – but it crashes on load with iPad OS 13. Please update, or stop selling it!

Tapping to continue fails occasionally… Which means you cannot continue… Which means the game is unplayable.

Was 5 stars, but your last patch broke Tap to Continue, so it does not work half the time. This makes the game unplayable, and, thus 1 Star. Fix the problem and dont patch in additional problems, and the review will go back to 5 stars.

The game itself is excellent. We ended up buying the "complete" pack which was $7 to unlock all the characters. But whenever we select Wilhelm the game crashes to home screen. Also, there are multiple graphics and interface issues. We contacted the developer and have gotten no response. Great job on the game but it needs to be supported better. Crashes like that should be absent especially in a great game like this. Fix it for 5 stars you Aussie maniacs.

Seriously? "It is upside down no matter how many times we flip our iPad". All you have to do is flip it once. It’s not upside down just because the button isn’t where you want it to be. Are you guys serious? Also to those complaining about in app purchases, it says more DLC/characters can be bought right in the title. What the heck is wrong with you guys? Anyways… Great game without auto-rotate. And those that cried about it should update their reviews now that it has been added.

By no means am we a D&D know it all, nor am we a crazed table top game person, but let us tell you that if you like any sort if rpg, D&D, diablo-esk game, fantasy in any degree, this is for you. We never heard of the original warlock of firetop mountain, but holy balls this game is fun and challenging enough to make you come back for more. We think there are about 11? Playable characters, each with their own playstyle. There’s a fair amount of pictures which can be seen in both the original black and white art work or with color. Both amazing in their own right, which bring more life to the game. Without a doubt, first app we purchase which doesn’t make us feel like we wasted our money. Worth every single penny. Our only complaint is that we want more of this world.

Seriously, we’ve played tabletop RPGs for over 35 years, and this is the closest to that experience you’ll find on mobile. Get this.

This is one of the best games we have ever played and is a lot of fun. We enjoy playing the game with the different playable characters.

We had forgotten about game books till we started playing games on iOS. We started reading about them because of all the games out on the AppStore based on them. We used to read them as kid but had forgotten we ever did. We tried playing Sorcery! But couldn’t get into it. We also tried playing some of the digital table top games on here also because we also played as kid, we were a huge D&D geek, but we couldn’t get into them either. We figured we out grew all of it completely even though we still play video games and love rpg’s and fantasy games, books, and movies. We haven’t gotten back into tabletop gaming, though. So we tried to give the genre another shot because of our love of fantasy pop culture and because of the great reviews this game has received and Bam! It hit us! We were transported back to our childhood days playing D&D and reading these game books. This game melds the 2 styles perfectly and gives us that nostalgic feeling of playing D&D with our friends in our room or alone reading these game books. The power of choice and consequences in an incredible beautiful fantasy world in our hand is perfectly implemented here. It’s so much fun we highly recommend this game. We’re even going to revisit Sorcery! & give it another shot.

Update: screen orientation issue fixed, rating raised :) Not quite perfect but very nice indeed. So far, so fun. We think it’s distinct enough from Inkle’s offerings, and we’re not going to complain about more entries in one of our favourite genres. Looks great on the larger iPad (but a minor issue, at the end). However, now that you have this game engine working, and played it safe by recycling yet again an ancient gamebook, how about using it for some new, original content? (and of course the same holds true for Inkle as well) I’d very much support that! With our wallet! One star docked for not auto sensing orientation… We understand that portrait mode is not an option since it changes the whole aspect ratio & layout, but come on, at least flip your game the right side up… Many people use non-rotatable cases, how is that supposed to work? (Er, well… We had to fold over the cover completely and prop the whole thing up against something else on the table, awkward)

Tried Sorcery series and this game; just felt long and drawn out with a ton of reading and random guessing instead of strategy. Combat in this game felt like a drawn out game of chess and just wasn’t fun for us. Also seemed to lack a plot we could connect with. App deleted. Guess it’s just not our cup of tea.

It really suffers due to not having multiple game saves. Maybe they will fix this so you can play different characters without having to delete a game just to try another character.

The miniatures was a cool addition, but the game play is very disappointing. First off, a lot of times the choices you’re given don’t provide enough information to make an informed decision. Finding the best choice feels random, and it feels like you just get randomly punished instead of being able to make smart decisions. Secondly, we wanted to like the combat, but it’s really not fun and just about learning whatever random pattern the monsters have by continuously restarting the fight to learn the pattern, or face running out of health before too long. Overall, the game is disappointing.

We really like the look, the models, and the story. The combat however is lacking. You alternate move/attack with all enemy units on a small grid separate from story environment. They attack or move in a pattern and you attack or move to take advantage or avoid the attack pattern. It’s a boring dance like puzzle. We wanted it to be so much more. Worth a try; you might like it.

Just try and take on two enemies, they dodge all your attacks.

Excellent game. Tin Man Games raised the bar with this one. They know story telling and this is a great adaptation of the original gamebook. The graphicsespecially the way rooms fall into viewand the use of ‘miniatures’ is a nice touch without being gimmicky. Well done. Add auto rotation so we don’t have to relearn right and left ;-) we understand the gripes about save points, but this gamebook implements them in a smart manner consistent with old-school game mechanics. Games used to have consequences. Complaining about having to replay a small portion of the game? We don’t get thatyou’re playing a game!

Deserve 5 stars Battle is enjoyable Bought the complete pack, large roster of character Hopefully they will add Screen rotation in landscape mode Portrait mode More story and char for complete pack buyer Maybe a discount for upcoming same title on your old game-book engine.

This is the kind of game we’ve been waiting for all our life. It’s really really good. Please fix the rotation problem. Not sure why it does this.

Very impressed with the direction of an old 80’s game book classic… We first fell in love with the series when we read Deathtrap Dungeon and later visited Firetop Mountain. The new visual 3D map while reading the text makes it seem like playing an old tabletop rpg and really immerses you in the Fighting Fantasy world. The old art and the new characters you choose from help catapult this app into an instant classic! We can’t wait until they decide to make Deathtrap Dungeon in this format.

Update: it’s all fixed so we can’t complain. Now we’ll finally. Be able really play the game. Thank you devs for the quick fix! We play on an iPad Pro so it’s very awkward being forced to play upside down. Otherwise, happy with the game :)

All the people griping about auto-rotate make us laugh. We find the game very enjoyable and we like how the story is different for each character. Hope to see other games like this.

It is a pretty fun strategy game. The reading and photos are fun, as well as the many options. Auto rotate would be nice and we assume that we will see it soon.

Some grammar mistakes and annoyed that there’s no auto-rotate (which we hope they update soon ’cause that’s pretty basic), but we’ve enjoyed the ten minutes we’ve spent with it so far. Will update soon. Tin Man, please add auto-rotate!

Game seems good so far! Please allow auto rotate or at least flip the current alignment as it is opposite for us right handers that like the iPad home button on the right when in landscape mode. Hope that’s an easy fix that comes soon!

No other complaints but it’s a pain in the butt to play becasue it’s upside down and does not readjust no matter how we turn our ipad.

We love the idea of this game. It’s exactly like playing a tabletop RPG. The graphics and sound effects are quite good. All of that being said, the game makes use of our least favorite video game mechanic: the save point. This means that when you die, your character respawns at the last save point. This leads to repeating challenges you have already passed successfully. Our hatred for save points is actually strong enough that we ended up deleting the game.

Love the concept of a tabletop RPG that’s turned based. Graphics are beautiful and thought the use of miniatures was clever. However, the save points are far and few in between to the point that the frustration out weighed the fun for us. We like a good challenge, but some of the insta-kills with no chance seemed unnecessary.

Great idea, less than stellar implementation. We loved this book as a kid, and making it come alive with beautiful graphics and sound is wonderful. However, the repetitiveness due to the save points is ghastly, and the lack of auto rotate a glaring omission. Such a missed opportunity..

This is a great game but out of frustration, we stopped playing. No auto rotate. Fix for five stars.

Game would be good if you did not spend an hour to then die and have to do this boring crap over again. We are unable to do it a third time, too bad could of been good. Now, we hate this game with a passion.

Ok so save points in a mobile game is something we would expect students to do in a free app but a $5 app. Be real here. Then no auto rotate. You do know that most case flip like a book in the US right? Which mean the game is locked upside down. Again student free app mistake not $5 app mistake. Fix these issues and we will reevaluate this but as or now this is a 1 star app at a 5 star app price.

Buying the game does not grant you access to all the content. They want more money for that….. The gameplay is buggy and repetitive. Don’t waste your money!
