We love Downwordly and Sparrows but this is the original version of the concept we think? We like the tiles on a table with the coffee aesthetic, and despite a few words not counting here and there Im glad theres a mode with no timer. Also, we havent seen a letter Z at all. Which we suppose we dont really miss haha. This is a must-have for word game likers.
Love this game! Needs a few enhancements.
Absolutely our favorite game – can be lighting-fast and energizing or can be freestyle and we can take all day to brainstorm the highest-scoring answers. Challenging but not impossible. Great for keeping your brain flexible and training it to see connections quickly.
This game is a must-play. If you love word games, then youll no doubt really like this one.
Used to be able to delete portion of word by tapping on letter where delete began…. Now have to delete every letter in exact reverse order…. Eats up time… We refuse to play now since the update.
Very nice game thats well polished. The 30 second timer is perfect for this game and can add to it with words entered and it gives the game feel of being fun and not hectic. One gripe is that your left hanging when words can’t be made any longer. Be nice for a games over popup. Overall a very well made game that is worth the price. We tried the lite version to convince us to buy. Recommend getting this game. Nice work/game Cerebral Gardens!
The pacing is JUST right (and can be adjusted)… You have more than enough time to put together complex words and as you get near the bottom of the pile then it’s time for some strategic thinking. Should you go for a big points word that will leave an extra tile or two? Or should you do two or three smaller words to finish it off completely and grab the bonus? A lot like WordPop! In this respect. Graphics and sounds are top notch and the achievements you win are great. We have ’em all (Wurdle, Lexic, Wordsworth, Smashword, etc) and this is easily up there with ANY of the top word games. Grab it as you won’t be disappointed… A very satisfying word game ;-)
Beautiful app, addicting, great fun! … Buy it!
We own many word games on our phone. And we’ve been playing and enjoying this game more than others, even more than Scrabble and Wordjong. The game play is nicely designed with a clean interface. And the graphics are elegant and tasteful, cleverly avoiding cheesy and distracting graphic effects. But the developer should improve this game further with continuous updates. Please add more varieties in the types of backgrounds and the coffe mug submit button: it’s kinda boring just to play in one graphic setting all the time! And add more types of special tiles.
Could you please add more levels? We don’t mind paying. Only 8 levels goes too fast. Thank u.
We think the gameplay is pretty clear from the thorough description (think WordJong without the Mahjong style limitations), so we just want to list a few unique pros and cons for feedback. Pros: – Fantastic theme. Beautiful and clean. One of the reasons we took the leap and downloaded this one. – Sounds. Theres no music, but subtle, appropriate sound effects have not been neglected. – Thorough tutorial. – Game modes. Its great to see an untimed mode (in addition to three different timed modes). – Special tiles (helpful & harmful). – Intuitive deselect method. – Different score values for different letters. Concerns: – What happens when there are no vowels left on the board? We’ve run into this issue a couple of times already (while playing in freestyle mode). We understand if its a part of the strategy to not end up in this situation, but the consequences need to be more clear when it does happen. When it happened to us, we had to randomly try all-consonant combinations until we used up all our lives. Is there a prompt when no further words can be made? – During some times when we’ve run out of vowels, we managed to continue by using the words ST and PH. Does this mean that abbreviations are accepted? Im not sure what words these are otherwise. Despite our concerns, we would still recommend Wordology to fans of word games (no matter how many you currently have!). We would like to see these concerns addressed quickly because it can be frustrating to end up staring at an unusable board with no idea what to do next (Ill be back to add another star and amend our review once this gets sorted out). This is otherwise an enjoyable and remarkably complete game (graphics, sounds, modes, score tracking). These developers did a great job implementing their idea. We cant get over how eye-catching the interface is.
First off, we wish some people would try a few different things before complaining on here. We see complaints for items that do what that the person wants in the game, they are just doing it wrong or not paying attention. Read the how to play section, there are little tips and info that is helpful. The the time bar does turn red when time is running low, and it is plenty big on our phone screen, and easy to notice while attempting to create a word. To backspace you don’t have to touch every letter in backwards order, just touch the first letter of the word or the letter you want to back up to if correcting something. Stop trying to make the game easier, shuffle or restacking the tiles makes it so you can almost always complete each level. The point is to carefully make words so you end up with letters you can create words with, this is one place the peek button comes in handy, you can look to see where a vowel is on the next level if you have all consonants or a consonant if you have too many vowels, also if you are making a long word and only missing one letter, you can peek to see if the letter is available on the next level and make a word accordingly to expose the wanted letter. We find the peek button very useful and we like the challenge this game presents, we don’t want featured that make it easy to finish every level. That takes away the thinking ahead aspect. We are disappointed that we still had a limited number of levels, we figured by paying we could play until we died or at least like 20 levels. Also it is annoying when you have 20 lives and 4 tiles that don’t make a word and you haven’t leveled up, you have to use up all the lives until you can end the game and save your score and start a new one. It would be nice if the game was aware that more words were not available and said the level is incomplete, no further valid word combinations can be made. We like that curse words/dirty words are allowed, not because we like making them, but when they could be the highest scoring word available, or the only word left, it is good the word is accepted, a lot of word games seem to not allow then or are not on word lists when unscrambling letter to make words. We haven’t noticed and proper nouns being accepted except in a case where the word can also just be a regular noun in another context. We haven’t found a word it didn’t accept so far that we know is a real word. We expected better for the money because of the limited number of levels, this seems like it should be the $.99 version or the lite version, not $2 and if a newer paid version had the added levels we would probably pay a little more.
Where to start? First it accepts some proper names and refuses others. Also when you have no words left to spell you cant end the game you have to use all your turns by trying to spell words you know are not there. You have to either do that or quit the game and start anew Ugh! And it accepts some name of places and refuses others. Its okay but not for $2. Stick to Scrabble.
Fun game, but if you run out of words to spell before the end of your level, you’re screwed. You have to go through the tedious process of killing each of your "lives" just to end the game (and keep your score). Next version will hopefully fix this!
Just bought this game. Could be a lot of fun except when you can’t find a word it just leaves you there. We noticed others have said the same. How come it hasn’t been fixed. Gamma.
We’re a sucker for games like these where you build words out of random letters so we decided to give it a shot. However, we found a few things frustrating. 1) The time-counter is way too small so you have to devote equal time to looking for letters while keeping your attention on the small font used for the counter. Another thing about the counter is that when you’ve only got a handful of seconds left, it never warns you so you may think you have more time than you really do — which leads you to lose a life. Solution: Increase the size of the counter and change the counter font color to red along with a warning sound at 10 seconds (maybe even a quick pulse of the seconds) to notify the player. 2) With the sound off, it’s almost impossible to tell if you’ve hit the right letter without looking up at the top. But while you’re timed, you’re more worried about getting all the letters spelled out than devoting energy to looking up at the word. Solution: When a tile is tapped (upon touch), the file should fade a bit to notify the player that the tile is actually active. 3) "Backspacing" is eternally frustrating. You have to hit the same letter you used before to backspace? With limited time, it’s extremely difficult to pinpoint the letter you used 3 letters ago in a random grid of tiles. For example, if we spelled the word, "mustard," and we wanted to delete the letters "a, r, d" to form "must," I’d have to go and find each one in the grid. This takes even more time to find the right tile when all we want to do is backspace. And no, erasing the whole word just to spell a word we’ve already partially spelled is NOT a solution. Solution: Add a backspace button! 4) Peek. Peek is useful, we suppose… But we haven’t ever really used it. Why not? It just seems like it would be useful if only we had more time to think about how to utilize it in a clever way. But with only 30 seconds for each "life," it seems like I’d be better off just spelling random words on whatever tiles we can see already. Solution: Either increase the allotted time or allow more peeks per round. 5) The "reset to clear" sound is kind of annoying.. This may be a personal thing but it just seems like it’s distracting. It sounds a bit bizarre like a laser gun reloading.. Out of place in a game/atmosphere like this. Solution: Different sound, please. Honestly, we don’t know how any of these things were missed by the developer, seems like common sense to us after a few trial runs of the game. The game really is good for a word game so we give it 3 stars but these flaws seem kind of obvious to us.
But, as others have mentioned, you run out of vowels or consonants a lot, which forces you to start a new game when you have many lives left. Of course, this is not the fault of the player… How about making a shake to scramble the tiles when you get stuck or simply restack the level. The game should be smart enough to know when the board is loaded with all consonants or vowels. We’ve also found legit words that were not accepted, like Rome, as well as some others, including names. Fix these issues and we’ll give the game five stars!
Game over too easily. Good game if not for that. It’s annoying to constantly have to start a new game.
We like this game a lot in lite version. But it was frustrating only having two levels. So we splurged for the " full" version but THAT only has eight levels. What kind if paid app only gives you 8 levels??!! Major let down.
