XCOM®: Enemy Within Reviews

We have this game on literally every platform it is available on. We love it. Best remake of a game from the 90’s ever.

We bought this game practically the day it was released. We dont know if yall have been optimizing this over the years or what .. But loading (which was one of our only downsides) is practically nonexistent. Everything is so flawless. Love it.

We did research on this game and decided to get it and Im not disappointed all these games now days are pay to play and this one you spend 10 bucks and get unlimited amounts of fun. We love the gameplay style and it makes you think sure you can run into a battle and loss all your teammates or you can be strategic and not lose teammates its awesome.

Take-away This game is great, complex, has randomized elements, and can be as challenging as you desire. If you are in doubt, you should try it. As it is a long game, it is a good value. General thoughts This game is something we have been looking for for years. Really fun, tough choices and there will be losses and casualties. Some times the mobility and line of sight for shooting are difficult to get just right, but thankfully autosave can bring you back to the beginning of the turn. Long hours and a lot of fun with this game. There a features that spice up the replay ability of this game. The finality of troops getting flanked and taken out is a gutting experience you can avoid on easier difficulty but is part of the excitement on replay. (Sgt. Watanabe has been killed (;)) Only real complaint is that some mechanics are not explained well in-game, like how MEC troops upgrade at a slower pace than human troops, or what the yellow enemy symbol means. Luckily online resources have all possible questions covered in full. We guess also that the RGN for dealing damage is set at the beginning of the turn, so if you have a 90% chance to hit someone you expertly flanked and it missed, loading a save wont yield a different result. Gripes (these are insignificant) As this is a port of the game, we know there wont be any updates or changes, so no use in griping but: II wish customizing was a little more extensive (gender, nationality, ability). Also it is annoying that it is nearly impossible to sneak up on enemies without ghost features, which means they get free movement and puts your troops on disadvantage. Also, the economy is a joke. Building a fighter ship cost almost as much as a singular laser weapon and a fraction of a plasma weapon. And financial support from countries as the world is being over taken to fund a dozen or so soldiers requires suspension of disbelief in extreme. Oh well.

This is a great port of the desktop version.

Easily our favorite App Store game (just ahead of this war of ours and the binding of Isaac) an amazing strategy game with no in app purchases. If we had to make a complaint it would be the massive amount of time necessary to spare but we kind of like that anyways.

Ao we have xcom for android and bought it for the ios aswell, unfortunately we cannot transfer our purchase app licensing feom one devide to another but we understand it. Now we have not played for about 2-3 month and jump backed on it and at the bottom left corner was a very interestion button that sent us to a leaderboard…… Is this new feature a step forward in bringing xcom live ? What is the plan here and what is all we can do now with this option. Or does it only keep track of your score during teh campaign?

With immense replay value and incredibly robust strategic elements, XCOM: Enemy Within is the only game we keep on our iPad. We hope that more iOS games can come close to the experience that this title provides. Five stars.

Its XCOM. On your phone. Its a perfect little time killer throughout the day, as the game picks right back up where you left it as long as you dont completely terminate the app. Our one and only gripe about this port is the camera. Please, for the love of the Council, add more camera options. The current sensitivity gives us Tinder flashbacks with all the swiping thats required to move it in any meaningful way. We want to be able to drag the camera at a speed and distance that matches our fingers movement. And Id like an option that allows us to keep the camera zoomed out when we switch soldiers or end ones turn. Constantly zooming the camera out before moving soldiers is bothersome. These little improvements would greatly increase what is already a stellar experience.

The game keeps taking us out of the app every time Im playing a online multiplayer game and keeps counting our games as a loss please fix this.

We played the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Steam and the mobile version does an excellent job of retaining the gameplay, graphics and pacing of the PC version. We played through the game twice on our iPad mini 3. Some crashes occurred occasionally, but the autosave system means you wont lose much progress. Great turn based strategy and tactical gameplay. The touch controls work fairly well. Highly recommended for someone looking for pc strategy on a mobile platform.

Perfect console to phone game but crash needs to be fixed iPhone X.

We purchased this item by accident is it possible for a refund.

We have had this game for a long time and we dont see why it shouldnt have backbone controller support. Thank you.

This game is great. Game system quality and we bought it even though we own it on Xbox and pc. We should have reviewed this long ago but we just dont review things enough. The one problem we have is we cant play the game and listen to our podcasts. We know you havent done any updates in forever but if you could fix that one thing it would get us to play it more. We like to learn and laugh when we play games. We cant imagine it would be s hard thing to fix. However that is the only problem we have. Its just a big one because it keeps us from playing it. We love the game and we end up just playing dumb games because we can listen to stuff while playing them. We know Im just one person asking for this fix but we myself have payed so much for these games over the years. We think we’ve owned every version of X-Com made. Some we’ve owned more than one copy of. TFTD twice, Apocalypse twice, and enemy unknown for three different systems. Anyone who likes these new ones should go check out the old ones. The graphics arent so great but the games are awesome. Anyway thank you for the great games. Im playing X-Com 2 on PS4 now. Keep up the good work and keepem coming. Maybe make one more like the old school ones with a whole bunch of solders and time units. Just make it look pretty but other than that just like the old ones. Please. Anyway thanks again.

Please, update the game version for iPhone XR display. Its not very comfortable to play with a small resolution. But this game is great!

This is a faithful port of the PC game. While the graphics are slightly less high-res, the UI has an enhancement that makes it easier to move soldiers to different levels. We’ve enjoyed hours playing this. It doesnt seem to draw as much battery life as other complex games.

We are in awe of how well this port is done, it has all the tact and charm of the console version but it’s done well enough that our phone can run it. Fireaxis should make more games for phones because this is phenomenal! Well done! Also, it’s cheap as hell AND the controls work very well even tho we hate playing on phones.

We dont do that many reviews, but this game is amazing! Its super in depth, insanely beautiful, game play is incredible. The animations for the just normal shots are even cool! We’ve been playing it non stop on our iPad Pro and its as near to console gaming as we’ve seen on iOS. Awesome game!!

They got it working on iPhone 8s. Appreciate the developers fixing the app.

We paid for this game before COVID and here we are April 2023 and this is hand down still best best iOS game we’ve ever played. If you ask us its better than on Xbox and pc. Call us crazy, but it feel perfect on our phone. Yo be fair we didnt play the second one yet but we liked this one more anyway. So, if youve never played this game or thought about getting it. Do yourself a favor we dont even write reviews, but after picking it back up Its just as tight as the first time we played it. Im buying the second one just to support them for doing such a good job on this one.

Our favorite thing is when you get AI allies in the fight, it adds immersion and role play. Will there be any XCOM 2 chosen? Or AI friendlys updates like when they assault a resistance ally base?

Gave us better texture and dynamic lighting! The phones can handle them now!!!!!

We have bought this game on PC, Android, now iOS. We’re very happy with it. This is an absolutely perfect port of a great game. We hope that one day we will get XCOM 2. This is a great game for iPad.

Takes a bit to get used to the controls, especially on a smaller phone, but once you do its just as good at the original.

Whats taking you guys so long?

This is a great game. The 5 stars are much deserved. The only complaint we have is that for us it is too difficult. We wish they had some type of special troops and extra money for those of us that are struggling to learn and play the game.

Excellent strategy game with high risk/reward situations that will keep you engaged. The learning curve is steep but fair.

The gameplay, choices and strategy are amazing. Early game choices affect the endgame and every choice matters. Truly a masterpiece in the strategy genre.

Would recommend this game if you can buy it. Its great to buy a game though and have no option for micro transactions. We hope Xcom2 comes to ios with just a few levels from the PC/console versions.

We love this game and it great to have mobile.

This is the best XCOM has ever been. We were introduced to the series when Terror from the Deep released back in the 90s, and it has come so far since then. All the core elements are still there, but now we have flashy graphics, CG cutscenes, and voiceovers to add a much deeper level of suspense to the sci-fi/horror of XCOM. Thankfully, the combat is turn based, so theres plenty of time to make calculated decisions from the edge of your seat. Well worth the $$.

Awesome game please update the game for bigger screen,i bout this game special for playing on iphone max,but need screen resolution.

We love TBS games… Even though this game focuses on fighting off an alien invasion, we think that its strength lies in the actual believability of the battles. Dont get us wrong – we loooove Final Fantasy Tactics, but we can beat that game without losing a single member of our party; X-Com is a real challenge! You will lose battles, your favorite soldiers will die, youll have to evacuate…

Big fan of xcom on PC, this is really a very smooth port and runs very well on iPad 2017/iPhone 7. Even on iPhone with reduced screen size it is very enjoyable. Pricey but worth every cent ! Now hoping for a xcom2/WOTC port!!

We love the XCOM series! When is X2 coming to iPAD?

Seriously, the gameplay works very well for a touch device. One of the biggest problems we have with most mobile games is the horrible touch controls. The turn based combat system fixes that.

Was skeptical about getting the game but it’s worth every penny.

We play XCOM 2 on switch so we got this to experience what enemy within feels like we love the game (much better cosmetics lol) tho multiplayer is dead so we know the devs probs dont care but please make a player vs bot multiplayer mode.

Used to not get past home screen, dont think it was an update to resolve but something on their end. Now that its up and running we are pleased with the quality of the game and cant recommend it enough.

1: Cosmetics make everyone look like they have a uni-butt. 2: Only the women salute properly; all the men poke themselves in the eye. 3: Grapple bug randomly sends teammates into another dimension. That said: we LOVE this game!

Alright lets talk about XCOM and for the hate that this game got first of all it has been updated so ignore the reviews that where there 3 years ago second if you have an old device sorry but you have to update your device anyways and yes this game in our opinion is worth the money especially if you dont have a pc. The game is hard so dont get frustrated with it just take your time we’ve been playing it for about a year and still havent beaten it also it gives you the entire game and its expansion the pc version does not do this they just give you the game plus 12 or 15 dollars is pretty cheap for a 40-60 hour game Ps (I am not paid to write this review)

We really enjoy this game. Graphics are good and so is the game play.
