Zotz! – Card Game Review
![]()
Zotz! is a Card/Puzzle game from Matt Neuburg, first launched in 24th December 2009.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 4+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Zotz! Stand Out
Zotz! is an enjoyable time-waster, a form of perceptual practice, good for training the brain and the eyes; there is no timer and no score, no pressure, just a simple challenge waiting for you whenever you like.
The game supposes a deck of cards, where each card has four attributes, and each attribute on any given card has one of three possible values: Number (one, two, or three), Color (red, blue, or green), Fill (solid, hazy, or empty), and Shape (diamond, oval, or rectangle).
All you have to do is to spot, amongst the visible cards, any three cards which, for each attribute, are either all identical or all different.
Colors, middle fill type, and number of cards in the layout can all be customized. Full instructions, with examples, are included.
This Card game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:
This is just what we need when it's that part of the day (or that part of a flight) where our energy is dwindling. After a game or two, we're invigorated and feel slightly smarter. (Disclaimer: we're the editor of a couple of his books, which means we're used to giving him honest feedback, which at the moment is just our wish for an iPad version.).
We were looking for an app of Set, the best solitaire game ever. This is close. We like the customizable options, and the hint. We only gave it 4 stars because a way to rearrange the cards would be awesome. Not just a shuffle, but maybe organized by number of shapes. That's how we always played with Set.
We really like this game, but it's not working with the new iPhone 5 upgrade. Didn't see any actual support on the Zotz! Support page.
We love the game itself, but since the ios5 upgrade it crashes anytime a wrong selection is made. We're thinking of deleting it, but we paid three bucks for it. So lately it's just been taking up space in our games folder.
Do not buy unless the bug is fixed. Should have read the reviews before purchasing.
Ever since the iPhone/iPad system upgrade it force closes!!! It's just awful now…. Please fix.
This is an attractive (and customizable!) game; the perfect combo of requiring some thought and quick gameplay. Great when you just need to kill a few minutes, but makes you think enough to stay interesting. Once you get the concept, it's fun! (Nice to be able to change the colors.) Once in a while it seems like you're stuck, but there has always been a solution.
We like to think we're especially good at pattern matching, but our first few minutes with Zotz! Convinced us that we're a rank amateur. This requires a little THINKING, but that's a GOOD thing. Got a few minutes to kill? Don't stare at the TV, or you'll be killing neurons along with time. Stare at Zotz! And you'll be giving those neurons a little exercise.
