Community Insight:
Love this game but only thing that kills it for us is lack of controller support as Ive never been a big fan of on screen controls. If ever they update to support them we would play this more often.
Love this game, but why not release some more maps.
We dont see 30 weapons to play with at all and Ive been playing it for a minute whats up with the advertising.
Make burn better. After too many hours on this game, im yet to have success with builds in high darkness runs that involve burning enemies. Stacking the damage is good, but only against very high hp enemies. We find it not very good in a game like this. Flame cannon is very underpowered, and Scarlett is underpowered.
Extremely good game. Doesnt feel like a phone game (which is good) Needs more enemies, levels, and bosses. Also, game is kinda easy tbh. But very addicting and fun. 5 stars.
For a while we enjoyed discovering explosive combos and becoming an unstoppable machine of death. But there are only 3 levels and we realized each one plays out the same way every time. A roguelite should have more variety, otherwise theres no reason to keep playing.
Ive played this game for about 2-3 years and we still remember when the crossbow didnt have the charge time and was absolutely broken fun to play with. Back then we could play for hours when their was only a 20th of the stuff they have today. You can make so many fun builds with every weapon and we have always loved to figure out how to play every weapon. And every character. This game has been nostalgic to us and we would recommend anyone to just try it out, and its a good first rougelike, it really eases yourself into the genre because its simple to just dive into not like something like vampire survivors or really any other game out there right now. The worst part of the game is that sometimes it gets really repetitive and its hard to get your exact build you want. But when you get the upgrades you want its great.if we had to say a few things to improve we would add another slot. To make it easier to get the upgrade you want or instead add a refoll button that you can upgrade with a lot of would. It would make Shana kinda stupid (but shes always been) so maybe just rework her into more xp oriented stuff she starts with. But honestly we think this is amazing and we love everything about this game.
First of all, we wish we had found this version of the game sooner. The free-to-play version is full of ad-baiting, micro-transactions, and clutter making it "watch ads to win." we'd much rather pay for a clean game. Controller support is not very satisfactory. The analog sticks only let you move in 8 directions. The triggers get "stuck" sometimes and won't fire or will keep firing. Menu navigation on controller is clunky and outright broken in many places, requiring you to use the touchscreen for skills and upgrades. There should at least be controller buttons for choosing upgrades and going back. There are a few small typos and grammar mistakes throughout the game. The Reckless achievement does not trigger as expected. The Cadence rune does not work correctly/predictably with Salvo Knife. It would be nice to have timers on screen for certain things (shield and health regeneration, timed buffs, no-hit buffs, dragon egg, etc.). It would also be nice to be able to pause the game on an upgrade screen. The game does get a bit boring and repetitive, but it's refreshing to see a game with this much proper design and effort put into it.
Why aren't there two characters and one weapon on the computer version.
This game feels a bit slow to control and is pretty fun, but with a lack of skill testing decisions beyond "pick the good skill" we can't say we feel as accomplished or as powerful or as challenged as a sucessful run of Brotato. The builds are all satisfying, but very one dimensional. Bosses come across as more annoying than actually challenging. We like games that allow you to break them and scale to infinity. This is not one of them. Go play Brotato or Vamp Survivors. Now aside from the critiques, this actually is quite a good game. We really like how clever all the skills work together and we like how the characters build. We like the freedom you get at character and weapon selection, even though most characters are kinda design with one or two weapons in mind. The art of this game is unmatched by its competitors in the Survivor-like genre. We really only got this game because it came in package with Brotato. It is a good game, above satisfactory, yet still has a long ways to go in order to become excellent. Maybe better on PC, 4 stars.
What an awesome surprise wasnt expecting this until January 2023! Great touch controls, awesome smooth gameplay ,weapons and power ups are always changing the gameplay. Absolutely epic. Please just add controller support for iPad users When using a ps4 controller if we hit X on main menu it brings us into the options but it doesnt work on any screen or in game The new update says there are 3 new weapons but there are only 2.
This is a great game to play when you are just hanging out. Would really like if the game had a resume feature if you were to pause the game and try to come back to it a day or 2 later.
09/27/2023 Update: so they added new weapon upgrades once you reach level 20. Awesome! But now old, game-breaking bugs have returned where randomly in some games either enemies become invincible and you die a cheap death or the game doesnt end and youre stuck frozen as baddies endlessly swarm your motionless body with no end scene to bring you back to menu. Why is it always one step forward with these guys and one step back? Bringing our review from 4 stars to 3 stars. Fix your game bro! Old review: Great that they included all of the current perks and skills from the pc version on steam, but they may have rushed the patch out too quickly. Punishing tweaks to the difficulty, even on the lowest difficulty level, have led to damage-sponge enemies and lower damage-causing shots. A few bugs have now made there way into the game, like wings (cosmetic items purchased from the in-game shop) no longer showing up when equipped on any runs, and some runs where enemies are in invisible and the game still runs after the 20 mins have elapsed. Fix the bugs, stay nerfs, enemy buffs, difficulty spikes and game-breaking issues and this is a five-star game.
Even now, over a year since its release (its mobile release, anyway), 20 Minutes Til Dawn remains a shining example of the so-called "bullet heaven" genre. We're not in the habit of writing full essays in App Store reviews, so Ill summarize our thoughts in a few bullet points. GAMEPLAY: Simple enough to learn quickly and short enough that its not a big commitment. Theres even a condensed 10 minute mode, although this doesnt count for some unlocks. In its most basic form, the gameplay loop goes something like this: shoot monsters, collect EXP, get stronger, repeat until you either win or lose. There are enough upgrades that each run will almost certainly be different from the last, but not so many that it becomes difficult to remember them all. CONTROLS: Smooth twin-stick goodness with a super handy auto-aim feature that lets you aim manually if the need arises. We normally cant stand virtual joysticks on a touchscreen, but we have no complaints about this one. REPLAYABILITY: Like any roguelike worth its salt, you can play 20MTD for dozensmaybe even hundredsof hours and still have fun. The optional darkness system, which ratchets up the difficulty with each level, also keeps things engaging. It also has a decent amount of achievements, many of which are tied to darkness. ART: In short, it's excellent. The pixel art is clean and readable, the playable characters are distinctive, and the limited color pallet ties everything together fantastically. SOUND: This is probably the game's most obvious weak point. Its not badin fact, Id say its pretty good at firstbut we can pretty much guarantee that you'll get tired of hearing the same looping song before long. We dont mind this too much, ourselves. We like to play our own music or podcasts anyway. With that out of the way, we think its about time we got to the elephant in the room, which is also the reason why Ive given this game 4 stars out of 5. Unfortunately, this version currently isnt up to parity with the PC version. That said, Id be surprised if it didnt get to that point eventually. Even if it never does, we dont regret purchasing it. Ive gotten more than our money's worth.
Many new bugs occur, like complete freeze during gaming, enemy and we both become invincible.
Hey creator, Lmk if u need a tester cuz ur game broke on us 5x after the lastest patch released. We got vids if u want us to show u.
In love with the game and the genre! Yall put a wonderful spin on the style for sure. Our only problem is that we upgraded from the free to the paid version, but we lost all our progress. :( we had finished every character and gun (except the paid ones) on level 15. Is there anyway to port it all over? Ive been unsuccessful in refunding it.. (was just going to buy the characters on the free version.) Once again, thank you for the wonderful game! Ive been stuck to it non stop on pc and mobile! We hope yall can help though.
Why isnt the mobile version have the same things as the pc version? There is literally no reason. The pc version has more weapons, characters and abilities to choose from. It doesnt make sense. Just make them the same it really isnt hard to do. It is June 13th 8:00 pm 2023 and we are playing the game on mobile and also watching people play it on pc and the are not even close to the same.
Very much worth the price. Was updated multiple times with new content after purchase. An endless mode would be nice, we ran out of content after getting all achievements.
What seems to be the most simplest of games, it is actually one of the most strategic games we have ever played in our entire life. We have never seen a game like this, and yet we have been able to fall in love with it. We are constantly playing game and refuse to go three hours without playing this amazing game. Ive always been wondering if this game will be updated again, and it just was. If you are seeing this review, and wondering if you should get the game. Get the game. Simple Perfection.
Its a really fun game that we like to play to pass the time and Im really happy that they continue to update it the characters have good abilities and the gameplay is good along with changeable weapons that makes it where you can play however you like.
This is a pretty good survivor-like game, but if it had controller support it would be an easy five stars.
For some reason our character sometimes does not respond to moves very well. Will jump around the screen when Im moving right into enemies or sometimes the opposite way. Fix the controls please.
The font is not loaded correctly.
Rather than a normal unlock, buying this premium version downloads a new app where none of your progress is present. VERY annoying.
We spent a LOT of hours playing the ad-supported version and really enjoyed it. Saw the paid version included the pumpkin patch level and the extra character, so we purchased it since we completed all achievements. It is NOT worth the purchase. You lose features. Sure, the ad-supported version has one less level and character, but the benefits that come with watching 20-30 seconds of ads every now and then far outweigh what the paid version provides. We were hoping this paid version also included the endless mode like what the PC game has, but unfortunately it doesnt. Even the skills and upgrades are exactly the same as the ad-supported version and not like the PC version. Ill be trying to refund the game after this review and getting the ad-supported version again. UPDATE: Purchased game less than 30 minutes ago. Developer doesnt support refunds DO NOT PURCHASE.
The ad-farm version of this game is advertised above the premium, so we didnt see it and thought we got the full game at the cost of ads. We wanted the new characters, so we paid for them. Then we got fed up with the constant ads so we looked for a way to remove them (doesnt exist ofc), and found the premium version. Now we own the premium version, but not the characters we purchased. If youre going to have two versions of the same exact game on the app store, you should at least offer the courtesy of not making customers pay (in-game currency or USD) for the same exact content twice. On top of that, the features in the ad-farm version that would cost you viewing an ad (or literally 10-20) to access, dont exist in this game. The ONE incentive you have as a consumer to pay for this version, was intentionally removed by them. No twilight boost, no revive, etc. If you buy this, you are literally paying for less than nothing, you are paying for LESS features. That, combined with the fact that they update the ad-farm quicker than they update this one, leads us to believe they make far more off the other version (selling your personal information) and they are doing everything they can to incentivize people to play that one instead. Either that or they just really dislike the people who support them financially.
We would love to see Apple TV support added as this is the kind of game we could play on the couch for a long time. With the touch controls we can only handle about one game before we need to give our hands a break.
The game is amazing, it has great gameplay, and so many different combos, but need a terrain with difficulty in between forest and temple.
Cant watch ads to reroll or continue in this version.
We would (you know) your (you know). Thanks for making an awesome game.
This game is like if you distilled all of the best roguelikes from the last decade into their most fun synergies and crammed them into the same space. It feels buttery smooth. Also, we love that the game automatically aims for you if you just hold down fire. We find aiming to be a very boring mechanic, and we're glad this game gives us the option to ignore it. You can still aim manually, though, for those who enjoy it.
Playing this game on a touch screen is a new challenge of its own. Great you vs hoard chaos.
This would be a solid 5/5 if it had cloud saves.
The game play is so smooth, this was our first game of this kind and we find it much smoother than the other ones Ive been trying. Fun game, love pixel graphics.
Love the game, but curious when you guys are gonna support cloud, save so we can switch devices.
Solomons Boneyard Minigore 2 Crimsonland Inferno 2 20 Minutes Till Dawn.
This game is loads of fun. Devs did an excellent job.
Controller support really makes this game for us. It is a bit clunky in places, mostly the rune upgrade page and skill select, but thats just a nitpick. Played the free version for a while, thought Id show our support and toss out the 3$.
Have been looking for a premium vampire survival experience for a while, this one takes the cake with deep upgrade options and no pay to win mechanics. This paid version is the same as the free version, only with micro transaction turned off. After playing the heck out of the free version, we had to buy this one to show support. We guess the paid version allows you to get more achievements, since closing the ad window on the free version will make you shoot, which disables some achievements. If you are struggling with the control, just remember pressing and hold right side will auto-aim the nearest enemy. Maybe the dev shouldve made that more clear. To dev: our only complain is the game can get too easy after you make a couple of successful runs. We don't have level 15 difficulty unlocked yet, but so far we feel we can't lose. Maybe skip a few difficulties in the middle or ramp the difficulty up faster. We hope there are more contents coming to this game. Keep up the good work.
We hope to see more content added and possibly more game-modes because id like to try a round with our friend or multiple people, we're very pleased with the art style and the animations excited to see more updates and features added. And lastly we thank you for creating this game.
Not too sure what we paid for the full version for, it seems like all we did was pay to lose the ability to benefit from watching ads. There are also many references to content that is simply not available in this version: new characters like Luna or Yuki, new weapons like the magic bow.
Cant watch ads to reroll or continue in this version.
One of the best if not the best rogue game Ive ever played.
We love how the game has more added than when we started some months ago, it gives us more to do. Im looking forward to future updates if there is any.
Edit: Devs have not addressed a single user complaint. Do not buy this game. As others have said, the controls are pretty cruddy; onscreen joysticks are too small and fussy, never quite as responsive as they need to be. While Im sure theres rationale behind having two-stick control, we cant help feel that it could just as easily (and more pleasurably) be controlled with one (adjustable-size) onscreen joystick paired with auto-fire. Heck, it could use a whole suite of quality-of-life options on the main menu, rather than just one for adjusting the sound. Kinda baffling why this wasnt addressed prior to launch, but again, Im no expert on game design, so its no knock against the devs – Im sure none of these gripes are news to them. As it stands now, the game is just not that much fun to play. Unless it gets an update to address its issues, theres not much reason for us to keep playing it.
Simple, frustrating and addictive. Its hard but keeps pulling you in. Love it.
This game is the best to kill some time. We recently got a backbone for our phone, and it just makes it way better! Definitely recommend this game.
