Hearts Gold Reviews

Has worked fine for years. Now no landscape mode.

We’ve reviewed this game before, and the one thing we have always considered to be a flaw remains uncorrected the computer shoots the moon too frequently; sometimes several times in a game, sometimes on successive hands by the same player. This just doesnt happen in real life. We consider myself to be a reasonably skillful player, but we can seldom beat the computer, largely because of how frequently it shoots the moon. In our opinion it takes the fun out of the game.

One problem. We know Im playing against computer but sometimes it knows the end of the hand before its played and sometimes we know it lets us win. We think we do. Could this be true?

We purchased this with some other games in a bundle, it said no ads, after playing the first game guess what? Ads. With an option to pay for no ads! Well we thought we already did!

We have tested many many hearts apps. Hearts gold is ranked number one in mechanics, layout and options. Their robot play is sometimes quite predictable.

We would like ability to have game stop before each trick is taken. Often our attention has to be elsewhere when the trick is finished and thus we miss seeing all the cards on the trick. We would also like the ability to not have the 2 Clubs lead, instead having the player to the left of the dealer lead. This would add another option, to allow dirt to be thrown on the first trick to prevent the players leading the A or K of Spades with impunity. Would love to play this hearts game vs friends on the web as it is the best Hearts game we have found. Add these three options and it is easily a 5 Star game!

We really like how well-designed this game is. Very customizable and smooth-playing. We’ve tried several iOS Hearts games and this is the best implementation we’ve seen yet. Im still looking for a Hearts game that is truly challenging though. Im a good Hearts player, but by no means great, and we can beat the computer players nearly every time (Im at over 70% wins). In this particular version, the players seem to be obsessed with either trying to Shoot the Moon, or preventing anyone else from doing so.

We enjoy this version however there is one flaw in the software , that we have reported repeatedly, that has never been corrected. You can play hearts before they have been broken if the only hearts and the queen of spades remain. In settings we have set the other option that you must play the queen first to break hearts.

In a way, this game is great practice for playing Hearts in the real world, because theres no way the actual laws of mathematical probability will ever put it to you this consistently. Cards that you pass to one opponent will mysteriously appear in anothers hand, to your disadvantage. You will get high hearts, but not enough to shoot the moon, and so on. For all that, its a good tool for learning the game, because it takes clever play to beat it.

Been loving this game for years. Last few days we play a few games and it freezes up. We delete the app, go to the App Store, redownload, play a few games and it freezes up again. Help!

We have to keep deleting it and reinstalling it. Otherwise it wont start.

We have not been able to play since the update two weeks ago. Fully updated iPhone X and 2018 iPad Pro. We have restarted the devices, restarted the game, and reinstalled – nothing works. Please get it fixed, we usually play daily!

Three times we had to throw away this game and download again. Needs to fix this bug, it was our favorite version. Too frustrating to play with that keep happening.

It froze up just trying to change the backs of the cards. That was a quick waste of $3.

We were under impression the object of the game was to have lowest score as an opponent reaches 100. Players dont understand that you attempt to get the low man in points. On many games that we have played an opponent will give the queen of spades at first chance. Many times the person has 85 point and low person has 28 and they will give the Queen to another who has63 points. Poor programming.

The three AI opponents are just plain stupid when it comes to passing cards. So frustrating to play against the three of them. We’ve had multiple games where AIs have shot the moon 2-3 times in a single game as they pass between each other. They apparently never pass a low heart between themselves. Strange that when we pass to an AI they never shoot the moon unless we purposely give them cards to help them do so since it would then allow us to win. Time to look for a new game manufacture.

Game crashes when you tap yellow OK (Show all cards command has moved here) No response. Nobody cares.

The updated animations are useless and make game play slower. The change of card suites makes them less easy to distinguish at a glance. Wish we could undo the update.

We thoroughly enjoy this Hearts game. Get rid of those ridiculous knights at the end of the game. The newest update is good, except the knights at the end of the game. Listen to your customers.

Love this game. Has 3 levels. Hours of fun.

Great game! Very nice graphics and excellent response. The new ‘Undo’ button is godsend. Probably the easiest five stars we’ve ever given to an app.

Fun game. Passes the time. Wish we didn’t have to constantly check the settings. They change on their own!

Does not add the difficulty of counting spent cards. Other players do not play independently for themselves but rather conspire against you. Although we can easily beat the game 80% of the time, the other 20% should also be in the win column but for the "conspiracy". I’d pass on this app.

The developer of this game needs to rework it so that computer players rarely shoot the moon rather then commonly shoot the moon.

We have been looking for a good hearts game that you can play against the computer since we got an iPad. Instead we got this great one! Easy to play, easy to use cards, and so far smart opponents!

AI is terrible… We purchased this last night looking for a good Hearts game. What a disappointment… After playing several games our computer opponents shot the moon over 75 percent of the time. We would stop it when we could. However, the other computer opponents seemed content to let it happen and never tried to stop it unless it was us shooting the moon. Stay away from this one unless this gets fixed. Otherwise you will just get frustrated as we did… Luckily we only wasted a dollar.

First off, we were surprised when East played hearts instead of following suit, ran out of hearts, then followed suit. Second, the only rules option available is whether to pass. No option for other rules variants that we’re familiar with, such as jack of diamonds. Third, it’s missing simple features such as review last trick, or auto-play when either no more points are out or the remaining tricks are yours.
