Detention is an unique atmospheric horror game heavily influenced by Taiwanese/East Asian culture (Taoism and Buddhism references) based on the 1960s Taiwan under martial law.
With simple point and click mechanism, the player control characters who venture into the school beset by hostile supernatural events to uncover stories behind the haunted place.
Incorporated religious elements based in Taiwanese/Chinese culture and mythology, the game provided players with unique graphics and gaming experience.

Detention is such a good game absolutely worth every second. From start to finish, it pulls you into a world thats both deeply unsettling and stunningly crafted. The atmosphere is thick with tension and melancholy, creating a constant sense of unease that perfectly complements the story. What really stood out to us was the art direction. The backgrounds are hauntingly beautiful, almost like walking through a series of eerie, living paintings. Every detail feels intentional, adding layers of meaning and emotion to an already powerful narrative. Its not just a horror game, its a thoughtful and an emotional experience that stays with you long after it ends. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates a good story, gorgeous visuals, and an atmosphere that truly gets under your skin.
This game was insane and we mean that in a good way. Like we are in absolute awe. The graphics? Beautiful. Story? Amazing. Characters? Heart wrenching and real. Length? Perfect could have played it even longer. We really loved the old Taiwanese architecture used throughout the game and how the whole main storyline is based on the real events of a 1947 high school during the Taiwanese White Terror. We are an American and we try to learn as much as we can about other cultures since a lot of history and cultures are left out of the American education system. We knew Taiwan had been through a lot on its journey to independence and being the human rights haven it is today, but we had no idea the extent it went to. Our eyes were opened by this game to something we had remained ignorant to until now. More games like this should exist. Its a beautiful way of making people truly immerse themselves into history to understand what people experienced during that time period and learn about another culture. We highly recommend this game and cant wait to go download RedCandles other game Devotion (it cannot be bought anywhere except their website now due to political controversy and banning issues). Our only warning is that this game will throw you through an emotional roller coaster, so be prepared to go from spooked in the beginning to on the verge of tears by the end. We finished this game during our lunch break in public and Im not the type to cry in front of people, but you best believe we were struggling not to after we finished playing. Absolutely amazing. 10/10 Thank you RedCandle Productions for making this beautiful game.

Playing this in 2024 and its difficult to find a game that keeps you interested, with good jumpscares and all but also leads you down a story without being rushed or anything. This game has much potential, even though its 7-8 years old now it still has that spark to it. We absolutely love this game, we got a little emotional throughout we hope to see more from Red Candle games.
Super duper good 10/10 would play again, we were confused for some parts like the clock part but we got it after like ten minutes.
We loved playing this game because it was a new cutscene and mysterious clue at every turn. The story was amazing, which we wont spoil to any new players. We enjoyed the game so much that we played the game multiple times to get the secret ending. This game was definitely worth the 5 dollars we paid.
BRO we FREAKING CRIED AT THE END THE GAME AND THE MOVIE ITSELF HAS THE SADDEST ENDING OMGGGGG.

Wasnt the best game if you are looking for exciting fighting arena or puzzle solving. But the story was amazing. You go through a life of a teenage girl and her decision making process. The producer of the game also incorporate vast amount of Taiwanese folklore and local cultural, that makes the story very interesting.
We found the story and folklore of the game difficult to relate to. But that doesnt warrant a low rating on its own. We actually would give this experience a 5 out of 5 but the overall tone of it turned out to be very bleak. :( we appreciate the creators for putting this together. Fair warning to anyone who may struggle with mental illness, this game has a lot of triggers. But there is a fair disclaimer from the creators. Hope is a good thing, and good things never die.
We bought this game, but it can't be adapted well on our mobile phone, and the full-screen notification bar can't be hidden. We hope you can pay attention to it and push updates.
The game is set during the darker period of Taiwans history in the 1960s martial law / white terror period.
Its a really good one and it also has a movie about this game. Hope well see Devotion soon.
For those who never suffer from the terrify old days, its a good game to know part of Taiwans history; for those who survives, its a sad game to memorize.
The night we finished this game we literally only slept for 3 hours thinking about how good the story is. The mechanics and the translated texts are a little clunky but the visuals and the plot more than make up for it. As a Taiwanese American it also got us to reflect a lot about Taiwanese history and culture. We really cant wait to watch the movie.
