What Makes Broken Sword 2: Remastered Stand Out

‘Broken Sword 2 – the Smoking Mirror: Remastered’ sees the return of George Stobbart and Nico Collard in the sequel to the App Store #1 smash hit ‘Broken Sword 1 – Shadow of the Templars: Director's Cut’, widely praised as the best adventure available for iPhone / iPad.

While investigating a ruthless drug gang, journalist Nico Collard unexpectedly comes across an ancient artifact. Community Insight:

We love all the Broken Sword games. We wish for a reforged for this one we dont like that the faces hide part of the screen.

We remember being a kid and playing this on our ps1. Could there be controller support for it though? We bought a backbone for our iPhone and would love to be able to use it with this game.

Perfect amount of difficulty, great adventure, super fun.

This game took us back to our PS1 days. It was such a beautiful and amazing game! Im delighted to find it on the App Store.

Characters are a bit slow moving, we like the hint set up.

Ive been playing this franchise for a while. GBA, Steam, PS2 and now just added the collection to our phone. Its improved over the originals, but really guys, we can use controllers for every single platform out there these games are available on, and we cant use our BackBone on these games? We would not have spent our money buying console games for the phone if we knew we wouldnt even be able to use a backbone with it. HUGE disappointment. Not the game. Just the developers choice of not allowing a controller. We hate touch screen games.

This would be a solid five star game if it weren't for the fact that all of the cut scenes play in a tiny rectangle at the top of our screen, while the rest of the screen is black. Still a great game, despite that minor disappointment. Maybe support has a workaround for us.

Good puzzles so far, a little ways into the game. Seems just as misogynistic and homophobic as the first, and hopefully for the later games just a product of its times.

This is one of the best Point and Click adventure series out there. We recommend all three. However, this games gameplay isnt actually full screen on our iPhone X like the screenshots in the App Store show. So, we wonder why those screenshots are there.

We bought the bundle. First was good. This 2nd one is just okay so far. The puzzles are less intuitive and we find ourselves needing the hints a lot more. Some of the controls to exit a location are a bit janky. You really have to find the exact spot to tap for it to trigger the character leaving the area. We wish they just had a button for the map that grays out when they dont want you hopping around. Still, Ill stick it out and update the review if it picks up. Hopefully the next game is better.

The game not being full screen is driving us insane. We hate it.

August 9, 2019 Rather than the same puzzles as other point/click games, Broken Sword uses logic to sneak around. There are a few puzzles, but those are not the common ones that Ive seen. This is one of our favorites; right up there with Thimbleweed Park. We had a bit of trouble with clicking on some touch points, however Im on iPhone 6s, so thats on us. It worked best if we flicked our finger downward over the spots (ie: inventory bag). Pros: Storyline, voice acting, puzzles, graphics, music, hint system, mechanics. The ending was fun! Cons: Hoping in an update there will be an option to make the characters walk faster. We would have like to be more involved in the final cut scene.

Not quite as good as monkey island but a terrific game nonetheless! Highly recommend.

The Broken Sword series is great, and makes for a perfect game on the iPad. Bring them all to the App Store please.

This game is the best game you can ever play in your life.

We love the broken sword games, and hope the rest will be here in App Store.

Glad you kept this updated for the system that Im on! 4 stars until we finish. The controls are finicky. We had to use a hint in the first problem because it was pretty random. The next few challenges have been fun to solve. They are a challenge compared to other point and click adventures. Enjoying it.

Very much fun to play but IOS controls are a bit fussy and the characters move a bit slowly.

Great game! We're enjoying it thoroughly.

IPad Pro 10.5 there is no sound.

We are wasting too much time trying to find the exact touch point to make a character perform an action. Im ready to abandon the game and Im 10 minutes in.

Still no support for the new iPhones.

This game has a clever and mature edge to it; perfect for those that appreciate a good story, adventure style gameplay, traditional animation, and fun dialogue.

All the Broken Sword games are great.

Just as great as the first Broken Sword game. A blast from the past since this game was made in 1996, still fun in 2014.

Broken sword's series is amazing adventures games, art and music, all fine ps: plz fix icon name, brokenswrd2, need add "o", like new brokensword5.

Better than the first which was already amazing. Also a third one is coming out VERY soon for ios.

Love this series. The point and click gameplay style make it perfect for the Iphone or iPad. The storytelling is very amusing and makes you feel like a detective. It's sort of like playing an actual mystery book you've been reading.

This game is sooo addicting! We bought 2 of them, and we wish there were more:(.

Great game. Awesome to see it on the App Store.

We loved both chapters of the Dragon Sword series. Can't wait to play the third one.

"You'd think she'd bin truckin' half her life!" Really.

Smoking mirror has none of the puzzles and ingenuity that made the first Broken Sword so enjoyable. The mechanics are basically the same (except now you can die) and the humor is still there, but gone is the epic sense of adventure. Puzzles have been replaced with completely unintuitive, hint-heavy enigmas. Where Broken Sword 1 was like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Broken Sword 2 is like an arbitrary episode of Scooby-Doo. Skip this one and go straight to Broken Sword 5.

Tedious storyline and terrible graphics. Bad puzzles, painful movement, unamusing conversations. It's seriously much worse than the first broken sword.

Maybe the game single star review is not an appropriate way to deal with this, but absent any other feedback mechanism it's going to have to do. You are the beginning of the game George is speaking with a retired police officer. When the police officer is listing the kind of awful crimes that he could help solve, he says "if he'd been a serial killer or a sodomite, we could help". Listing those has two of the crimes he could help fight. It seems to us that by 2014 game producers could stop referring to sodomites as criminals. And because the game is in a contemporary setting, they can't even say that they were addressing terminology of "the time".

This game is truly applaudable if you like adventure point and click games this has to be one of the greatest made the story is fluid and very enjoyable controls are perfect and they even have in game hints to help when you get stuck from the beautiful graphics to the accents of the characters this game is outstanding perfection.

We'd have to say, this is one of our most favorite apps of all time. It's pretty long with diverse locations and scenes, so it's very worth the price. And unlike other games we've played, they don't spoon-feed what you're supposed to do next. This game is definitely not the fly-through type, which we look for in these types of games (click adventure). We feel like this isn't as popular as it should be, which is surprising! We're very surely going to buy Revolution's other games :).

Nice adventure game, not a seek &find (hoorah!). Good storyline and sequel to the game Broken Sword, Directors Cut, but you dont have to play the first to get into this one. Both games are well worth the money, and lasts longer than a Starbucks fancy coffee! The hint system is great and easy to use. You can also save your game at various times.this is good when doing something dangerous where you can get killed. If you get killed the game will let you try the activity again, but we liked to save it up to the critical moment so we don't have to repeat one or two tasks. This is not a shooter game, you only get killed if you do something dumb at one or two places in the game.

We love the first one, we've played it when it came out on PC 15 years ago(when it was called "Circle of Blood"), again when it came out on Wii about 5 years ago and we bought it yet a third time for iPad and the iPad version is the best. When we saw the sequel we did not hesitate to purchase and play immediately. Much like the first one we could bring our self to stop playing, we love the characters and story and the puzzles are pretty fun. But it doesn't hold up to the first one, and it kind of fizzles out at the end of "Smoking Mirror" the end video doesn't wrap things up very well and is not that rewarding. Still, we're a junkie for point-click and until they release the Lucasarts original adventures "Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" we'll chalk this up to about a B, B+. Thanks for the game it was a lot of fun.

We just finished the game, well done. The controls are good and intuitive. The story is good. The puzzles are balanced and include a hint system if you get stuck. There are even some timed events that you have to react to in order to move on. Cut scenes were good. Overall this is a big expansion of the previous game. Everything is better.

Great game and simple controls. IPhone needs more old adventure games like this.

This is one of the best adventure games we have ever played also their other titles such as beneath a steel sky are superb define tally recommended for pickup thumbs up revolution.

We have always loved the Broken Sword series. When it was originally released back in the 90's and we were on holiday, we spent our time playing 2 games. Broken Sword & Tomb Raider. The characters in Broken Sword are great and the story is quite exciting too. Being a point & click game, this will naturally appeal to those kind of gamers. The puzzles are not too difficult to figure out but you need to be in the game (As in the zone) Broken Sword 2 is a great game & its great to finally see on IOS. Compared to other games out there, its overall price is quite reasonable. Furthermore, every iPad, iPhone & iPod owner can enjoy this game.

Love this game. Easy interface, and great story. We wish it were longer.

We just finished this game and have to say we loved it. For 3 bucks it took us a while to beat, like 7 hours. It probably would've taken us longer if we didn't rush and use hints when we got stuck a few times. This was like Monkey Island, but in our opinion better because there's only 2 actions per object look and interact which makes it a lot less confusing. We also really liked the dialogue and story. The only part we didn't like was that once during the story you have to use an item that we felt made no sense and once where we believe they were trying to confuse you with some sort of maze across different screens, but it was not puzzling, just a tedious waste of time (a lot of walking back and forth for no reason). Other than these 2 minor points, we thought the game was overall great and definitely worth the money. We know these 2 games are based on old computer games and am not sure if there are any more, but if there are and they come out on the iOS platform, we will be sure to buy them.

The game was great! It's sort of a puzzle/detective game, and we guess some people just can't handle it, so they give it one or two stars. It's a slow paced no stress game. Hey, and if you get get lost you can go into the menu and there are hints. We hope you guys are working on another one.

We used to love reading Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid and this game series brings us back. We really enjoy the graphics and clever dialogue..we also recommend playing Broken Sword: Shadows of the Templar for iOS before jumping into this one..Great stuff.

Like its predecessor, this is a clever, well-written game, with good puzzles and plot line. The two main characters are engaging. We like the combination of wit and adventure. More, please.

At agora uma otima sequencia!!! No nivel do primeiro, at melhor na minha opinio.

Awesome game definitely worth more than what they're asking! More please.
