Five-O Classic – Family Game Review
![]()
Five-O Classic is a Family/Board game from Curt Stein, first launched in 15th December 2010.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 65+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Five-O Classic Stand Out
Five-O puts a numerical twist on the classic crossword board game!
Instead of letters, you place number tiles, forming sequences that must add up to multiples of five, with no more than five tiles per sequence. Think strategically, maximize your bonuses, and outscore your opponent!
Features:
Easy to learn rules
Single player mode with challenging computer opponents
Online Multiplayer! Play with your friends or let Game Center find you a match
Simple controls, just touch and drag the tiles to the board
Hints for when you get stuck
How to play:
Players take turns placing intersecting sequences of numbers on the board which sum to multiples of five. For example, 7-3-8-7 would be a valid sequence because it adds up to 25. The sequence 3-9-5 is not valid because it adds up to 17 which is not a multiple of five.
On each turn, players may play tiles in one straight line sequence, horizontally or vertically. The first sequence must be played on the center square, and all sequences after that must intersect with tiles already in play.
The score for each play is the sum of all the number tiles in sequences completed on that turn. Colored bonus squares award extra points and multipliers.
At the end of each turn, players draw new tiles to replace the ones played. The game ends when a player plays all of their remaining tiles and there are no more tiles left to draw.
This Family game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
Absolutely love the game. Its a great brain game. Taught our co worker how to play, will be showing more people this game.
Love the game but the difference between medium and hard levels is far too vast. Shouldnt on one hand be able to win by 300 easily and on the other never get close.
Game is relaxing, with enough levels to make it challenging. Ads are there, but unobtrusive – always a giant plus for us.
We really enjoy playing. We do wish that there were forfeit rules if players do not respond within 24 hours when it is there turn. We dont like waiting and wondering. Also, we wish there was a way to communicate with the other player.
Love this game, just wish it had a messaging feature like other online games.
If you have this in its original state, don't upgrade it. All the "upgrade" does is embed ads after every game, and if you try to play it again it crashes! You have to restart the app to play again. Horrible experience from a great game. We guess they don't care, they just want you to pay for the new ad free version. No wonder….to program an app to crash is terrible.
The only thing that would make it perfect is the an (optional) ability to chat with opponents. By far our favorite game.
This game is loads of fun and very addictive. Told our friends and they're hooked 2! Keeps our math sharp.
Five-O is an amazing game that entertains you and sharpens your math skills simultaneously.
The game is fun to play, and we enjoy it a lot. But, if we want to use a hint (you get one each game), you have to watch an ad, which can be annoying. But other than that, we haven't run into any other problems.
Challenging games against the computer. It's fun without being frantic.
Game is fun, but there is a bug. There is always a notice on the icon even all games are finished.
All the things that are annoying about other games just aren't here; this is our new go-to game to relax. Love it.
In looking for a challenging, Head-to-Head game, you would be hard-pressed to find one better than Five-0! It moves quickly and is never boring. Easy to learn and plenty of fun, we highly recommend this game.
Nice turn based game, requires at least a little thought. Great way for us to play an online game with our 15 year old son. Math involved so that's always a plus if we can get him to do math while enjoying a game.
This game is a great way to engage your brain and a challenge to use your number tiles to equal factors of 5.
This game is like the old board game by 3M called Quinto (not the app of that name) except it has the squares which add and multiply points. We like this game because it requires you to think to try to get the most points. We will buy the paid version. We just wish there was an option to turn off the add/multiplier squares.
Deleted free version only to add again with ads. The computer should have to go first every other game or pass without taking a 0.
Absolutely love this game with one exception. We cannot invite our friends to play with us and they are having trouble inviting us to play. Would have given 5 stars except nothing so simple should be so hard. Please fix this.
We love the option to keep playing with the computer. We're just beginning, so we can hone our skills, AND we have a reliable friend to play with. The challenge is fun, too. It's simple enough yet clever enough to make you think.
Like a scrabble board but need to come up with variations of 5. Try to build on more than one row to beat the computer.
The game is definitely fun; it's sorta like "Arithmetic with Friends". That being said, the app constantly shows a red dot indicating that it is our turn, but it isn't. The ads are also extremely obnoxious, trying to force users into paying for the paid version, but when the game is super buggy, it doesn't seem right to make the free version more-or-less unplayable.
Great game we beat the computer every time we love winning.
This game is like "Scrabble" with numbers ! ! An easy game but takes some strategy if you like winning.
Finally winning 40% vs "hard" computer. Can't get enough of this game; Scrabble and Dominos combined.
This is so fun! We have spent hour playing and trying different levels and found all are just as entertaining on the hard as the easy. Love it! Make one divisible by tens next.
Fun and challenging! Three levels of difficulty against the computer, or play online.
In this game, you'll do lots of quick adding and visualizing what number is left after the sum is divided by 5, subtracting, rearranging and strategizing location for the best possible points. It's a really fun game for those who like math or want to become quicker with it.
Fun to play. Challenging to play computer, both can win.
Love playing this against the computer anywhere.
We love this game. Playing the computer at the medium level makes just hard enough to make it fun and competitive. You can win most of the time but you have to work at it and get the right tiles.
Many of the same offense/defense concepts as scrabble, but easier, with basic math. Doesn't require language proficiency and would be good for ESL or even someone who speaks no English.
If you like games and numbers, try Five-O. Highly recommended.
So much fun – playing 30 players at a time.
We thought we liked Scrabble, and Sudoku…they don't hold a candle to this game. Great opponents; game can be played with the computer if opponents haven't responded yet. Our criticism would be that players can't "speak" to each other . Small price to pay for thoughtful, challenging and fun playtime. Thanks.
Think of scrabble, except with numbers. Lots of fun, nice set up, addictive play. Good job.
Great math game for our students.
We like the math that you have to continually use. We don't play it when we are tired.
We love the challenges against the computer or the online. We recommend this game for anyone who plays dominos or enjoys number games. It includes all levels. Our children also enjoy the easy against the computer.
This is an exciting thought provoking game and should be shared with others.
Addicting! Great way to keep up with simple math skills.
We really like this game. The computer is quick to play so no waiting.
It does seem that the computer has the advantage on hard level. Enjoy playing with granddaughter and son-in- law.
This is one of the best games we have played for a while.
As a middle school math teacher we really like the way this game gets the mind working over the numbers to get the right result.
…but it seems the game is favorable to the computer when playing the "hard" level.
Us encanta el juego. Super adictivo. Lo que no us gusta es que no puedo jugar online, solo contra la computadora. Ojala pronto se pueda. Gracias.
We were looking for a pass n play game . This game has none.
Scrabble, but with numbers. Way more fun that Sudoku. Would be fun to be able to set what the multiple has to be, instead of it always being multiples of 5.
Who would have imagined you could play scrabble in numbers. Brilliant.
