9 Men's Morris – Board Game Review
![]()
9 Men's Morris is a Board/Strategy game from Uwe Meier, first launched in 16th March 2011.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 21+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes 9 Men's Morris Stand Out
NINE MEN'S MORRIS
Each player has nine pieces, or "men", which move among the board's twenty-four spots. The object of the game is to leave the opposing player with fewer than
three pieces or, as in checkers, no legal moves.
Placing the pieces:
The game begins with an empty board. Players take turns placing their pieces on empty spots. If a player is able to form a row of three pieces along one of the board's lines,
he has a "mill" and may remove one of his opponent's pieces from the board; removed pieces may not be placed again. Players must remove any other pieces first before
removing a piece from a formed mill. Once all eighteen pieces have been used, players take turns moving.
Moving the pieces:
To move, a player slides one of his pieces along a board line to an empty adjacent spot. If he cannot do so, he has lost the game.
As in the placement stage, a player who aligns three of his pieces on a board line has a mill and may remove one of his opponent's pieces, avoiding the removal of
pieces in mills if at all possible.
Any player reduced to two pieces is unable to remove any more opposing pieces and thus loses the game.
This Board game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:
Overall really enjoy it, very stimulating as far as strategy games go. One bad thing is it turns off audio apps that are running as soon as you move a piece, very annoying. This happens with the Apple music app & third party stuff like Overcast. Also, whenever you move your piece the computer moves in like a tenth of a second or less. Its impossible to actually see so you have to look over the entire board to find their move.
This game doesn't even follow the rules of nine men's Morris. This game was a waste of time.
This has kept us occupied for so long and we played it with our parents this is very good and we would like to see more CHEERS.
The game cheats. We had three in a row multiple times and it did not let us eliminate a chip of the computer.
First, we have to say that the people who say that the computer cheats are either idiots or have not played the game before. It plays exactly to the rules of 9 Men's Morris. However, the app does crash a lot, but the gameplay itself if very fun.
A great app. However we would enjoy it more if you fix flight. Right now, if flight is on, and we are down to the last three, and we get them in a row and try to remove one of the opponent's, it crashes.
Fly glitches a lot. "Hard" isn't.
The AI for the game makes some really bad moves, and based on how poor they are we think they must be purely reactionary (not thinking ahead). Not recommended for those who want a challenge, however the app itself worked well.
Fly will sometimes work for you, most of the time it does not allow you to win in fly mode. Also computer player will constantly repeat a move, back and forth when in a jockeying position, infinately until you make a move it can capitalize on. Needs a rule for only so many repeat moves before you auto lose.
We've always liked this game, and nothing beats the non-digital version. We're glad there is an app for this game but this app crashes like a crazy! When we make 3 in a row, we try to take one piece away and it crashes each time. Very annoying.
It usually only happens when you are flying, which is when you are down to 3 pieces. When you fly to make 3 in a row, and you go to remove an opponents piece, that is when it shuts down.
Crashes a lot and will take minutes for the computer to move on "difficult" choices if they update it to patch crashes and bugs we'll review again but until them we're going to download board games instead.
When the computer gets to fly against you, you can no longer make three in a row and remove their pieces. It is impossible to win at that point.
Good game and fun but crashes when you try to fly.
Is too easy, uninstalled it as soon as we won. Add some difficulty please.
We wouldn't bother trying to win, it will crash as soon as you try to capture a piece.
We payed the .99 to remove ads. While playing we selected "fly" but when you get to that point, and you try to remove an opponents piece, it crashes Save your money, were do we go for the service desk for return.
We got this game for our ipad air 2, when we succeed in a "mil" it crashes. Recommend not buying this till the bug is fixed. We will change our review when that happen. Works fine if you are losing.
Every time we get in a winning position, it either turns on fly mode or crashes. When we have it down to 3 men in a mill, and we make a mill, we can't take any of the opponent's men! But when the situation is reversed, it will surely take ours! Please fix the game!!!!!!'.
When you are winning it will crash or turn on fly mode when you had it off. When it has no more moves it thinks a little and then says it won. Nice joke.
Literally every time we went to make a winning move, the game would close. Happened 4 times before we decided to just delete the game.
The computer repeats a move the hole time and wins learn the game or just delete it.
Game consistently crashes when it gets down to three pieces that fly.
- The computer makes mills before it is allowed to, and it's somehow allowed 2. It crashes as soon as you try to change the difficulty 3. We never got to either make a mill or capture a piece because the computer will block off all your routes and then make the same mill over and over again (which isn't allowed) until you lose.
The game is great until you get to the end game. It constantly crashes. Please fix.
Happens to us too. For some reason, just as you have opponent cornered, you can't take one away after getting three in a row. Then opponent wipes you out. What did we expect for the price.
Every time we capture a piece, it crashes.
Freezes every time we play online and against the computer.
When you undo after youve been eaten sometimes you have kike 2 extra pieces or your opponent looses a pieces… Crashes everyte you fly.
It crashes all the time! Like once per game! When you get three in a row, it doesn't let you take off whatever piece you want, it only gives you the option of taking off certain ones. And sometimes you get three in a row and it won't let you take off any piece! Don't waste your time or iPhone's memory downloading this piece of crap! We would rate it 0 stars if we could. We mean, Nine Men's Morris is a great game, but well, to put it frankly, this game is a sucky piece of stupid crap.
Crashes constantly. One game in particular it crashed 30-40 times.
We're deleting this right away. This app has crashed 5 times in less than 15 minutes. Very frustrating. Don't get us wrong nine men's Morris is fun but this app isn't. If we could give it a lower rating than 1 star we would.
The game is fun but always crashes.
DO NOT download! This app will begin crashing once you are winning. It will also cheat when you try and go back of you dropped your piece in the wrong place. Overall a terrible app. Morris is a great game but this app is just pathetic.
Always crashes – no fun when that happens. Needs a fix-badly.
This app crashes a lot. Probably 2 crashes per game. The menu is slow to load, too.
All the computer does is go back and forth when it has a mill, but still a good game.
Most of the time, it works fine – and then its a good app. But once in a while the mills wont register with the computer so theres no way you can win . Theres no way to report technical problems and apparently the people who made this game don't read their reviews because if they had, they would have fixed the problem by now. There are much better Nine Men's Morris out there that actually work.
Ok well first, it would start to cheat, and second, it never let us take one away when we got a mill. IT IS STUPID DO NOT GET IT, WORST APP EVER.
After playing a bit the game started cheating! We would build mills and it didn't acknowledge them. Would only accept its own mills till it won! Piece of S..t of you ask us.
While playing the Bluetooth mode the men are not the same locations on both devices.
Not worth it a it is far to easy to play the game to a stalemate. No challenge in playing the game. Graphics are nice and have been done well.
