Community Insight:
Ive tried both the balanced and the random and choices and in both, when you enter the end game, if you are winning, and see the computer roll doublesstart counting. Way too often the computer will roll three sets of doubles in a very short time. Its way too often to be normal odds, so as much as the developer(s) trust their algorithm, something is up, so they should play it a bunch and see for themselves. We play on a website online too, far more than here, and that never happens. Also, the tutor often has you leave a piece open and then takes it, when there was a better move available without leaving one open. While the game may catch options you overlook, we feel the main tutoring being done here is learning when to know you shouldnt listen to the computer. We gave it three stars though because its playable and serves its purpose when the annoying doubles thing isnt happening.
Cheating is crazy when done by a computer.
This app needs a better dice roll algorithm.
Get rid of pick your dice roll option. Obvious when computer gets too far behind it switches to that option.
Game alway goes first on starting roll (20 starts game got higher number 19 times.) If you leave a piece uncovered computer almost always gets a hit unless you are in starting quadrant, mostly will leave you alone in starting quadrant. If computer leaves a piece uncovered it appears you have about realistic chance to hit it. Lower level of play rigged to teach player to avoid leaving uncovered piece at all cost.
Pros: we love this game and Im actually getting better at backgammon. We used to be a newb but now we recognize moves and learn from our mistakes. We like it that the piece does a dance/shake when you accidentally select an impossible spot. Cons: Its annoying to have to hit confirm after the AI player has played. It would be nice to have an auto-roll option. Sometimes its hard to select the piece that you are aiming for. Also annoying to have to select the piece that has been knocked out when its the only one you can move – it should auto select if for you. When a match is over, if you selected an expert1 or expert2 AI opponent, it defaults back to advanced.
We taught ourselves to play using this app and for that we are grateful. We will say that the odds seem to be skewed to the computer when playing against it. It will roll 4 sixes just as you are about to win and beat you or repeatedly roll a series of die allowing to send one of your pieces back to home position again and again. We realize this is just part of the game but after playing a long time it definitely feels there is something in the programming giving an advantage to the computer beyond what would be expected.
This is stacked for the computer. Computer 95% of time wins the initial roll, gets doubles 4+ times more and rolls a 6 much more frequently than we can.
Nice setup until the rolls become incredibly unbalanced.
Its a game that we have played since we were a kid.
Nice to a degree but so so rigged its annoying…takes out the fun of playing this app. Not really as good as the developer makes you think.
If you want more anxiety in your life you should definitely get this game. The rolls are not random. You will often roll the same roll three times in a row. And if you have the computer pinned and only one roll will get them out, you can guarantee that is what the computer will roll.
We tried at least 10 different Backgammon apps and this one finally is what we wanted. You can turn on auto mode to move the piece with one tap (instead of 2 taps) and you can set high speed for movement. So this lets us play a game fast which is all that we wanted.
Just updating our review. We're convinced after playing hundreds of games, the computer cheats in specific situations. Most notably in the endgame, if it is behind and one of your pips is captured, the computer will give you bad rolls keeping you captured while it gets great rolls to build a wall. We've had several games where we've rolled eight or more times and could not get a 1 or 2 on the dice to escape. We can see it being possible, as it is luck, but a statistical improbability that happens far too often. Still the best out there, but very frustrating when you have to change your play style to win because you know the computer is going to get that miracle roll. We have tried several of these games so far and this is the best one we found. There's not a lot of ads to deal with in the computer place a pretty good game. Occasionally it blunders and we think it takes a few more chances in the beginning of the game then we would. Has good mid game logic and will try to trap your pips if you delay the advance of your farthest two pieces. We have to believe the dice are fair as the game gathers statistics on roll frequency. That doesn't mean a shrewd programmer couldn't manipulate chance and sometimes we find the computers luck uncanny, but still possible. Many other games clearly skew the dice rolls to make up for poor game logic. Overall best free one out there.
Operationally, great program, but the problem is that there are fewer and fewer people online to play. They need to market a lot better. The waits are often long. We had one today that we stopped at 100 minutes.
Overall – worth playing. We find that at the highest level, we can win except when the first few moves go against us. After a few moves, it is clear that a game is a no-win and there's no way to improve your position or chances. This keeps our winning % just over 50% and never higher than 65%. Good fast movement and great automatic moves. An improvement would be for the game to recognize when the game has limited moves then notify the player with an auto complete option.
Used to be great. Although the players were not very friendly. However it no longer works on our phone. There is absolutely no support. We would play this game again but am not able to access the game. Do not waste your time.
We have an iPad 3, running iOS 9.0.2, and the iOS message says that this update is not compatible.
