Classic Trek 80 is a Adventure/Strategy/Entertainment game from Richard Loxley Ltd, first launched in 26th January 2020.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 82+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Classic Trek 80 Stand Out

In the early 1980s, these textual space adventures were very popular on home computers.

They were based on the various "Trek" games that had gone before them on mainframes and mini computers.

In this version you have 35 stardates to track down and eliminate 7 warbirds. You can move through the galaxy, perform short and long range scans, and then shoot using lasers or missiles. If you run low of energy or missiles you can dock with a starbase to recharge.

This is a loving recreation of the "Space War" BASIC program that ran on the Tandy/Radio Shack TRS-80.

The original version was distributed on the demo tape of the EACA Video Genie / System 80, which was a clone of the TRS-80 model 1 level II.

This app is a completely new creation that tries to re-create the game as accurately as possible (including all the quirks of the original!)

The game is free to play with no adverts. But if you like it, you can help support independent app development by buying one of the optional upgrades.

The upgrades are all for silly non-essential things, so if you don't want to spend any money, feel free to just have fun with the complete game :-)

Community Insight:

The ultimate retro game! We fondly remember watching our uncles play this on the TRS-80! We were a few years too young to play it ourselves and there was only 1 computer and too many cousins & uncles around. Didnt matter, we all watched it in awe. Our uncles would take turns each game. Its great to revisit this (and win!) TY for this nostalgic space voyage.

We love this game! Its one of our all time favorites! It somehow makes us feel like Im traversing the galaxy on a seek and destroy mission. Despite its low end graphics we find it to be very fun and engaging. A must play for any retro game lover.

One of the best games ever. Yes its basic, the graphics are simple + and you will feel like you back on your TRS80. We bought the full version just to say thanks to the developer. Hours of simple fun.

This game was the magnum opus back in the day.

We grew up on the Texas gulf coast in the mid 1970s, a son of a NASA contractor. We remember playing a similar game on our dads computer prior to the Tandy game system, and the version you have masterfully recreated. We recall some differences in movement commands, but the same basic game. We also remember spending hours as a child, and the excitement when we finally beat the game the first time. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory. We look forward to spending time again (much older kid now) solving the puzzles this game provides.

Pretty good recreation. What would be nice to see would a additional ability to recreate other versions of the game (like the original 1971 edition, its original HP BASIC source code is readily available, Super Star Trek or BSD Trek, a C version which is still available in the Debian repos and was converted to macOS) with the same TRS aesthetic.

We took the developers suggestion to treat it as a puzzle, having not played the original. Its been fun puzzling through the operations. That said, Ive played games of its type in the past and can see an authentic experience for those wishing to revisit the original. Have fun.

Awesome game. We fully agree that you should try to figure out how the game moves work without reading the advanced instructions. Made it so much more enjoyable. Thanks for putting in the time to develop.

We originally played it on a Burroughs mainframe in the early 70s. History is worth preserving.

We originally played a version using a Decwriter, connected to a mainframe with a 300 baud acoustic modem! Our only improvement idea for this version is to make the keypad area larger. Our fat fingers on the small phone screen can tap the wrong number easily. :D.

Solid effort. Good game. Nice remake of a classic. If youre into retro, grab this one. And you cant beat the price.
